From: Ephraim Kappler Matter of fact the new blog they plan to introduce appears to do exactly that.
Figures. I don't understand why they can't upgrade/fix the features they already have in place instead of adding new things all the time. VB is now on 3.8.1.This forum's version is 3.0.5. Imagine all the security and performance issues that have been fixed since. Takes ten minutes to upgrade VB and very easy-Mind boggling.

From: Opensource Obscure This said, I'd even be fine with being perceived as a rude person by someone that I perceive being a moron. I mean - if I meet you daily at the local pub and every time you act like a moron, it's not a big surprise if I stop listening to you, and possibly stop greeting you. This doesn't restrict your right to behave as you like.
Exactly. People have the right to act like morons and people have the right to ignore them. Nothing rude about it.

From: Ephraim Kappler I was being an 'A' word (they deleted the last post where I explicitly used it so excuse my coyness) for pointing out you started it. I understand it wasn't your intention to have us all going at it like fishwives on market day. But I guess you might have missed my amendment above: it looks as though there will be some form of edit facility in the new blogs that will allow us to filter out the stuff that doesn't interest us. I saw the edit too late (wonder if my post will be deleted for using that word) Anywho, I like the idea of more control of what is on my screen. Sure I can just skip past what I do not want to see, but as human nature is, if it is there, one does see it and ends up reading at least some of it. If it is not there, then I do not even have to see it, let alone skim past it oh and you were not being an a hole at all, you are right, I did not expect to see people bickering back and forth, but alas, it is bound to happen when one gets clashing personalities. I myself, when I see a post that is obviously meant to incite a reaction, am learning to just not say a thing, and let them look like the fool instead

From: Opensource Obscure I'm from Italy and I'm not very fluent in english - so reading english text is much harder for me than reading it in italian - and it takes longer.
Still, I find that many useful information gets published in these forums.
I also find that _nearly all_ comments by certain users aren't useful to me, and worst of all - these people usually write what I think are actual bullshits. I really cannot afford to spend lots of time to read bullshits.
Unfortunately I'm not able to skip something without reading it like someone else (e.g. Talarus) can do. My options actually are: "don't read the whole forum" vs. "skip posts by well-known morons".
So, I really love the Ignore feature, and I'm happily using it with more than a couple of users here.
I don't think that anyone has the _right to_ be heard by me. This is important from an ethic point of view. Everyone has the _right to_ espress themselves (and I value much this right) but this doesn't mean I _have to listen to_ them.
This said, I'd even be fine with being perceived as a rude person by someone that I perceive being a moron. I mean - if I meet you daily at the local pub and every time you act like a moron, it's not a big surprise if I stop listening to you, and possibly stop greeting you. This doesn't restrict your right to behave as you like. well said. and the point about not being able to just skip past a post, I find I am the same way, if it is there I tend to read it, so using the ignore feature just makes my life easier, and more comfortable, and happy. (until someone quotes said ignored content) heh but even then it is only a few times, as I do not read every thread on here.

From: Talarus Luan Well, don't die of old age waiting to post any, either. I have, but you are apparently unable to understand my arguments. I won't tax you further. You probably need to rest your old bones. From: Talarus Luan At least we know who you get it from. Nah, that comes from her mother's side the family. Pep (They are a bunch of old dragons too)

From: Rhaorth Antonelli hi tundra, um... I am a she (it's ok, happens all the time) Oops...I know that, or knew it. Typo? Freudian slip? Probably lack of attention to detail and sloth on my part.

I remember a movement about 10 years ago to do away with the whole she he thing. I've seen s/he used before, but the idea for an actual word blending the two was being tossed around. I liked the idea, but many were against it.

I use the s/he when I am unsure of the person's gender. hmm what would be a good word, non gender specific, to replace he she her him etc (are they proper pronouns?) I don't think there ever was one for non gender specific. (other than it's) and I doubt many of us want to be called it. *grin* edited to add amazing what one finds when doing a search in google LOL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender-neutral_language(I searched for non gender specific pronouns)

I speak and write Turkish where the indefinite pronoun 'o' is used across the board for males, females and it's and as a result you have to qualify any thing you say every which way 'til Tuesday. Believe me, the gender confusion just isn't worth all the linguistic shenanigans required to make even the simplest point.

Complete derailment as I have not commented on the issue of using the "ignore" function (well, OK: I don't use it), but just wanted to say I liked Ephraim's use of the word "shenanigans."
