When putting people on ignore..

LOL mine too... I am at times, (especially lately and not sure why) very lackadaisical

Not ALL of us. My brain completely shuts off at the first "teh". I have no "other" problems with Jig, except her ongoing age discrimination of anyone over 30. However, because of her continual and intentional use of teh, which my brain cannot digest without protest, I find I have to ignore most of what she says.

If it were honest to goodness typos then that would be acceptable as it would be only once in awhile, however I have seen her type the properly, and words like them, they, this, etc are typed correctly, so it is not a problem of having th together.

There have been several references, believe me. They rankle only slightly and not nearly to the degree that "teh" does.

Well, it takes time to decipher her posts. I have noticed it as well.

lately I am finding it harder and harder to read her posts, knowing that she does the "teh" part on purpose. Maybe I have missed the references due to skimming and skipping the posts.

I typo a lot, but I backspace and correct it, it is not that hard to do.

(or use a spell checker)

Anyone who purposely typos or types in such a way that it makes it difficult for others to read the posts, really should not complain about people skipping past or ignoring their posts. (not saying anyone does that, but just saying, IF someone thinks they should not be ignored, the type with respect to the readers)

I must say though, I think some of the worst are either all caps, or upper case, lower case alternating.

God that was hard. I think it took longer to type that one sentence than it did the rest of this post LOL

headache inducing, maybe it is cuz I am old and my tired old eyes can not take it and my addled brain can not decipher it. *grin*

Never ever read the WOW forums Rha. I swear my IQ goes down 20 points each time.

When reading a post that has a lot of typos it is like hitting speed bumps, slows down the reading process, which then throws the concentration off, and then I have to start again, and eventually (depending on how bad it is) give up.

Does this happen to others?

Just wondering how common it is for folks when reading.

Yeah, that crap gets me worse than anything. I'm getting used to hai! and bai! but the up and down lettering...omg, shoot me now.

I peeked in there a few days ago when WOW was down, and well, wow covers it completely LOL

however I have seen a LOT worse than WOW.

I do not communicate with people on WOW either. We have our own little group of players and mainly stick with communicating with them. I do not use WOW as a social platform, I enjoy the game and it is a good way to let out some stress.

oh lord do not even get me started on the hai and bai crap
It is bad enough that we have butchered the English language over the years, but to do it on purpose is just sad.

Same. I have a small network of friends I play with on there.(Most I met in SL) I shut off general chat and trade and ignore the rest. Way too many idiots in one place for me.

I keep trade chat open, because sometimes a good solid offer comes through, but other than that, nahhh

The ones I play with I know in RL, and we chatter on vent while playing (have not tried voice in WOW yet, not sure if I want to LOL)

I am still pretty low, as I rolled a new toon, up to 27 so far, the others have the new death knights and some level 70's and others are close to being knight status.

so I pretty much play solo, but chatter on vent

eventually I will catch up to them.

I ignore the spam crap, and only glance when I see stuff that actually looks interesting.

for the most part though I am not in the cities, so I tend to not see a lot happening on the trade channel.

now... cross roads/barrens spam, well that is another story LOL

couple years ago, it was alllll about Chuck Norris, now it just seems to be insults tossed back and forth.


The major thing I like about SL, is that the majority of the people I meet are not kids, can not say the same for WOW.

I'll tell you what I will do. I will try VERY hard to type correctly so that you can read what I write. I still think mistakes will be in what I write. I hate following rules. But for the forum I will do so, so that you really dont get the wrong impression of me.
I also won't make age discrimination comments. It's easy to do and it's not fair to any of you. I wouldn't want it if I was older. I will make several of these apologies over the next little while so you can see I am serious.
Now I can't promise I will type free of errors. And sometimes my mistakes will creep in but I will do my best to make it easier to read me. I am not being sarcastic. I mean what I type. That way we can make our peace. Jig Chippewa.

It depends on the context and medium for me. On web forums, my brain pretty well filters out most of it, so I am able to move along just fine. On the other hand, I don't attempt to speed-read forums.

If I hit even a single typo in one of my college textbooks, however, it's game-over for me. I'm done studying at that point.

I don't mind typo's for the most part, I can usually glance through them. What causes my brain to shutdown immediately is chat speak. A few u's and 2's and kewls and wuts and ending every sentence with lol and I wind up like Nomad when Capt Kirk pointed out he was imperfect.

Thank you Jig. This at least shows me I was wrong about you and you do care about how others feel.

I agree with that. Nothing will shut my brain down faster than encountering text-message speak anywhere other than on my cell phone. When I encounter something like that in-world, I don't even acknowledge the speaker's presence. Mind you, if it's something that's just thrown in occasionally, I can get over that. But if the entire sentence is chat shorthand, I don't even bother.

A couple of examples:

I was out shopping recently, and some noobish-looking guy approached me and said "hi hru". Two thoughts actually came to mind there: One, why was some guy approaching me in the middle of a large women's-only clothing store? And who the hell is Hru?

Another time, I was out somewhere, and some guy came up to me and said "wat^". I ignored him. He said it again, and again I ignored him. When he said it a third time, I responded back in (what was probably very broken) Japanese, and that pretty much ended it.

Wow Jig. Just when i had once again changed my mind and took perspective of my partner about it (she finds 'teh' endearing), you go and do a 180 on me.

I really am so happy you have taken this direction because now I get to participate in the threads you start without some one attempting a "Jig typonese" thread derail attack. The best way to deal with an attacker is to disarm them, and that is just what you are doing.

Either way, if you did this change or not, i had resolved myself to never bother you regarding it again anyways as i did comment once about it being intentional and i apologize for the harshness of my criticism and tone in that post.
