From: Colette Meiji No one that came after they opened the flood gates in 06/06/06 will ever be old.
For the forums, if you came after 09/11/06 you cant be old. Although thats just a working theory.
An alternative would be if you never read a new Official Forums General Thread started by Prok you cant be old. And here I thought, given my 3 year rezday is tomorrow, I could finally be considered old. Here's to embracing midbie-ness!

From: Briana Dawson Avatar Name: Jig Chippewa Birthday: 2006-10-20 Family: 126 others with last name "Chippewa" 33 others with first name "Jig" Ahem! Last one left mean all the other Chippewas are now deceased in sl. When I came on I was the only JIG in sl. Then a few other people had the good taste to "borrow" my name (rather like calling thier babies "Britney" in real) I was born on 20th October 2006 and used a disco girl shape etc. didnt leave Help Island for three days coz I was so popular. My first boyfriend in sl (Spanish) called me "Hig" coz "Jig" didnt sound right to him. I am the Last of the Chippewas.

From: Argent Stonecutter I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. Okay, now I love this final moment in the film. But ... What are Sea Beams? or C-Beams? Where is Tannhauser Gate? Is this mentioned in "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" (Philip K. Dick?) on which film is based?

From: Hope Zinner How old in second life do you have to be in order to be considered an oldbie. One year, two. three? And what does a name have to do with it. I went to sl name watch. Zinner is closed and is classsified as heritage. I supposed that closed means no one new can choose that last name any more. But I wonder what does heritage mean. Any ideas?
PS. Does this forum have a spell checker? Mine is heritage quite a few of us out there, why do I never see any?

Pep (C-Beams and Tannhauser Gate are references to components of an old console game as far as I have been able to ascertain.)

From: Pserendipity Daniels Rutger claims he made up the speech himself just before they shot the scene. Pep, I'm disappointed. There's this whole "Rutger Hauer ad-libbed it" myth, but what he said is that he thought the speech was too long, so he cut it short after the first few lines and ad-libbed the "tears in the rain" line to end it. The rest of it was straight from the original script.

The rest of it was straight from the original script. So where is the inconsistency? Your summary is correct, but it is not how Rutger likes to put it! Sure, like most of the movie, there was a shooting script and like most of the movie the actors - in a permanent battle with Ridley, messed around with it. He didn't like the lines he'd been given and decided what he was going to say himself. Pep (The following is claimed to be the shooting script for that scene: I've seen things... (long pause) seen things you little people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion bright as magnesium... I rode on the back decks of a blinker and watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. (pause) all those moments... they'll be gone. Rutger changed it significantly: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.)

From: Pserendipity Daniels So where is the inconsistency? Your summary is correct, but it is not how Rutger likes to put it! It's precisely how he puts it. He gives full credit to the screen play, and de-emphasizes the degree to which he ad-libbed it. From: Rutger Hauer Originally it was a bit longer, like a half-page of dialogue. So I said to Ridley the night before we shot it, 'This is way too long. If the batteries go, the guy goes. He has not time to say good-bye, except maybe to briefly talk about things he's seen' Life is short - boom! I truly felt that the ending of this picture should be done very quickly, I mean, we'd already seen this opera of dying replicants; I didn't think the audience would stand another protracted death scene. So I said to Ridley, 'Let's do it very fast, and do it as simply and profoundly as possible. But also, let Batty be a wiseguy for a second'. Ridley said, 'Yes, I like it'. So when we filmed that speech, I cut a little bit out of the opening and then improvised these closing lines, 'All those moments will be lost in time. Like tears in rain. Time to die'.
But you know, everyone always writes about me and that speech, and ignores the screenwriter. I thought David Peoples, the man who wrote that version of Batty's soliloquy, really did a beautiful job. I mean, I loved those images he came up with -'c-beams glittering near the Tannhauser gate, attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion'. I thought they were really interesting, even if you didn't understand them. The whole idea there, is that once he stops talking, the dove flies. You never really see the moment of Batty's death, the dove says it for him.

Sounds to me like you're smart enough to understand the difference in emphasis between the myth and the reality. And I'm smart enough to know you'll never admit you might possibly, even in the most extreme possible circumstances, be mistaken about anything.

Thanks. I did not know about those. From: Milla Janick Cool idea but their numbers are wildly inaccurate. Compare them to SLNamewatch and the SL People search.

Sounds to me like you're trying to score points where there are no points to be scored. Pep (But I'm smart enough to realise that you would never waste your time trying to do that, would you? )

at the risk of becoming a lightening rod, i think pre-flood accounts (02/03/04/05) will always be... different. today, i think of 06 as journeymen, 07 are qualified, 08 are still apprentices, and 09 are n00bs.
obviously what you _do_ impacts the above. but it works as a general rule.

So we all got to know each other and were like a big family in a way, including the Lindens
