And I, too, remember how voice was going to cause the sky to fall,
It did, for at least 3/4 of the hangouts I used to frequent.

I consider accounts older than mine to be oldbies and newer than mine to be newbies. I think actually being in-world often enough counts more than having created your account first.

I agree

A month or less is a newbie (unless they are an alt.) A newbie can also be someone who registered long ago but has only begun playing as recently as a month ago.

An oldbie to me would be someone who's been here since the start of SL but that is just my opinion. I don't know if there is an official definition out there.

So by my personal definition there are not that many 'oldbies' to be found. When I run into one it's always a bit like running into a centenarian in real life - "wow, what were things like back then?" and most are just as uninterested in talking about 'the old days.' ;)

GROANS! Another reminder of age, I was absolutely devastated when they started to call the Rock & Roll I listen to; "Classic Rock".

The other one I mentioned in the forums one time. I was in Guadalajara, Mexico a couple of years ago and got to go see Santana. The whole time I was there I was looking around amazed at the number of old people there until I realized I was older then most of them

so you too remember when adult contemporary actually was?

For me it was asking someone where they were when Apollo 11 landed, and they looked at me... "I wasn't even born yet".

LOL!

I was born a few months before that and Woodstock happened. :D

Try asking a youngster about Mt. St. Helen's blowing up and see the look you get.

Even more amusing..... hand them a 5.25" or 8" floppy disc and see if they know what it is :p

Is this around the time Mayans were visited by space beings?

Screen?

Disk Operating System/360, also DOS/360, or simply DOS, was an operating system for IBM mainframes. It was announced by IBM on the last day of 1964, and it was first delivered in June 1966.

I used to do packaging artwork for food and labels for spirits on the drawing board using Rotatring pens and all sorts of implements of torture, like rulers and compasses, flexi curves, Elipsigraphs, I had a full set of Highway curves for such things too. I produced packaging for, amongst other, companies such as Reckitts & Coleman, Smith & Nephew and Seven Seas. Hand drawn lettering was a speciality, producing logos and labels for Le Piat D’or (wine); Croft (brandy); French Connection; Nicole Farhi and Marks & Spencers (fashion). Then along came the Mac.

Yah, and that expensive drafting table I bought for my wife... I couldn't sell for anything: we finally swapped it for a case of homebrew to get it out of the living room.

I admire you. I do packaging for food companies now, and I would be dead if it weren't for my Wacom, iStock, and Fontbook. I don't even remember how to hold a pencil!

My dad did give me all his old graphic design tools, the little green plastic stencils with all the ovals and curves, etc.. I have them in a box somewhere still!

That definition has now been reassigned. Beta testers are now referred to as "The Ancient Ones" ;)

What about beta testers who never got the lifetime membership cos they let someone talk them out of it? :)

"The St00pid Ones" (?)

LOL, I bought a huge professional camera for making photo-mechanical prints 3 years before I got a Mac, various add-on's, lenses costing over £2,000 the whole package was about £25,000 the kind of machinery that lasts for a lifetime, within 5 years I had to smash it up to fit in a skip for it to be carted away, i kept the lenses, they lay around collecting dust.

When I went to school in the mid 80's the University was still using the 360, first semester with punch cards. First computer of mine used CP/M.

I'm old enough to remember the day the "Ignore this and let it die" thread began. IRL I get carded for buying dry ice, yet I have gray hair. Maybe I look young for my age?

Lets see.hmmm
ok here goes..
I remember when the popular list was actually useful and only needing about 32k in traffic to get on it.
I remember when animations didn't have the stop button.
I remember black Wednesdays.
and i remember getting used to all the glitches then a new update wouuld come out and having to get used to all the new glitches again and then a new update would come out ect..

i remember when we finally hit 30 k logins and everyone thinking the grid was going to explode.
Dance poles with only 3 animations.
Thats about all i can remember..

OH and this one!!!
The cross eyed glitch. :D
