How old in second life do you have to be in order to be considered an oldbie. One year, two. three? And what does a name have to do with it. I went to sl name watch. Zinner is closed and is classsified as heritage. I supposed that closed means no one new can choose that last name any more. But I wonder what does heritage mean. Any ideas?

PS. Does this forum have a spell checker?

I am not sure, I have been in a couple years now and I definately do not feel old.

Last names get retired so as you "age" in SL you see less and less people with your last name, that is why some last names seem to be very Unique.

I need a sppeling checker too!

SL began its big membership push starting at the end of 2006.

Whenever I see someone who has been here since 2005 or earlier, I consider myself in the presence of an SL elder.

Well Hope... I guess you will get a lot of various opinions here...

In my opinion there are a few one-year-or-more old residents, that still behave and look like "newbies" while on the other hand there are so called "newbies" that are doing veeeery good and you´d never guess they are quite new. Also depends on the amount of time one has to live a second life.

And if you consider that some people have so-called "alts" you can´t really tell how much experience one has just by looking at the "rezz-date".

But that´s just my opinion ;-)
Let´s see what the others think...............

This Jig came on in October 2006. But I believe fossils have been found ...
For a minute there I thought you meant age in real - that's always an interesting contrast. My partner in sl is 66 in real. I am NOT 66. But get a couple of oldbies together and they go on and on about old times. Many changes have occured. It's been an interesting ride (as I say to my partner on occasion!) Hahahaha!
I think Post-2006 are decently aging. March and April 2008 are DEFINITELY newbies.
I have only ever met one other Chippewa - I think the rest are gone now like Children of Men

I'm still a noobie. But, because I've been around more than 90 days, I'm not allowed to enter Noobie contests. (^_^)y

Well since my last name is listed heritage as well, it made me curious. All I found is this ----

Heritage: The status acquired by a person through birth; a birthright: a heritage of affluence and social position.

Spell checker? No? My Firefox [or fellow posters :p ] kicks in on spell checking.
2004 or earlier, to me is oldbie/REG.

*gets flashbacks of Profile Ratings of REGs w/ ratings in the hundreds*

In SLnamewatch terms, all heritage means is that it's a retired name, whether it retired in 2003 or yesterday, they're all heritage.

I frequently get "wow, you've been in SL forever" so I guess just under 2 years is "old" :o.

Same here.

I tink sometimes it's age (that is, age of account) + inworld experience.

I do not consider myself to be an oldbie, given I'm an early 2006. I consider 2005 and lower to be oldbies, particularly 2003s or so. but I also have a 2005 friend who has logged in maybe 10 times in the last several years, still looks very "new," dresses in very basic "newbie" style clothing, an doesn't really have the SL "skills" down. They could be considred a "newbie," I think, regardless of age.

I think folks stop being 'new residents' somewhere around the 30-90 day mark.

The definition of an oldbie probably depends on your perspective. To me, anyone with a born-date of mid 2005 or older is an oldbie. (Damn, I never really sat down & considered myself an oldbie before :D)

Then again, 6/6/06 is also a good dividing line, as that's when the grand population explosion first began.

Im Biz-speak, heritage just means "previously". As far as names go, I guess it is concievible that some names could be added and closed immediately. They would later be opened when ready for use. Heritage would be names that have been used up aready.

I feel old right up until I see someone with a 2003 account post - then I kind of feel all "STFU n00b..."

I always think of the year before me :)

I am 2006 and some think I am old but I tend to look at 2004 and 2003 as old with 2003 getting in my head the title of Ancients.

I agree on the inworld experience.

I had someone out one of my alts becase he knew too much about traffic bots and the like. Granted he was 2 days old, but Ive only been playing for a month total.

This guy wanted someone 'real' camping in his empty sim, and banned my only male avatar telling me to get lindens for my alt elsewhere.

I cry about it constantly...

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I remember Anshe selling 512's for L$3499 all over the place and thinking that was horribly ExPeNsIvE.

Now its a bargain. heh, go figure. lol

I think the margin of old age moves as SL ages.

Im new to SL, but I've been playing on-line games since 1999.....so I dont consider myself a newbie. .. I think of myself as a new citizen !

and you can be here forever and still be a newbie:

I was talking to a girl the other night while I was working on my shape. ... she said "what are you doing?" I said playing with my shape sliders ....she said "whats a slider?" and her ress day was like june 2004 .....

I think everyone will be considered old if given enough time, while only a few will be a pioneer.

I always consider myself to be a newbie - RL and SL. I don't think that will ever change for me.
