There is a new Body Shape maker who specialises in plump, curvasious and overisized body shapes. They looked pretty realistic....it's obviously a niche market, but required all the same.

I'm toying with the idea of opening up a separate division for middle age and old aged shapes. I think it would be challenging and fun to do.....we might end up having to do our skins too as i haven't seen many old aged skins around. The problem is going to be the hair...we don't make them....going to be hard sourcing those. (or maybe commissioning a Hair maker)

Your pic gave me the idea to share one of me and my alt too.

Salo, on the right, was an interesting experiment - an attempt to create an avatar who looks the way I look in RL (as opposed to the way I *want* to look). I ended up pretty close although Salo's hair is longer because really short hair doesn't look so good in SL.

And I also discovered that I felt really, REALLY uncomfortable playing this avatar in-world. The ginger beardy guy is more "me" than Salo ever could be.

Marianne I LOVE your shapes!

Thank you! I picked up the kit from the Forum Cartel hangout and started fatting up my head. *grins* I've tried to avoid the too short arms and too long legs, and that's worked well enough. But my head was really small. I went from a size 50 head to a size 75 head... and still, the 8 cubes don't reach down to my heels, just my ancles. But I better see if I can stretch all my hairs first... female hairsizes is made for size 50 head!

The Efe shape I wear with Efe skin, is my most wellbuilt. She has a body fat of 13, or was it 15? I've tried to make more realistic shapes, but it seems to stop there. I guess I like the "slim, but not skinny" look. Models in SL are both much thinner and has longer legs than me.

Thank you for the kit, it was really a great help to get better proportions! I will not be my RL height because I would need to build a whole new SL around me. This pic shows me in the 5'1 shape included in the kit.

I don't like to see myself so out of proportion with the building, an ordinary skybox, and furniture. I took 1 pic of me next to the bed, and I could barely look over it.

i did notice one thing..the mesh seems to look better the closer you get to natural sizes.
it seems more blocky and stretched out being big..especially on breasts when you see them maxed to the fullest..
so i am wondering..do we need a new mesh or just a good resizing..

i even expanded on it a little when i was thinking about it..i sat back and looked at what if everyone went to a more natural size in SL??

would building textures and everything be sized better to fit us and would we gain more room per sim..
lol all kinds of things were going through my mind lol
mainly because i noticed all my no mod prim clothes would be no good anymore :(
still i wonder if things sized normally would make a big difference in everything..

would the stretched out crotch go away too?
i'll find that one out today when i try to see how my rl measurements fit the rest of the world..

Madhu, I like both your shapes. The ironic is that they are rather thin compared with RL women.

Lewis, I think both your avatars look good! But stay in your redhaired avatar if that's the one you like best.

Ceka, I agree with what you say about the avatar mesh. I think some areas (like the crotch)are so bad that realistic height can't help it.

The best thing I've ever done to soften out the jagged avatar mesh, is adding on a bit body fat. 8-15 is what I use on my different shapes. Never zero. Even a low number helps a lot.

Not at all: I've tried and tried to build a more realistically sized house and it just wouldn't work.

No way. The only way the problem will be fixed is if they provide a new mesh with more polygons modeling that area.

Your post inspired me to do the same. I was able to use the same AV, just adjust sliders. And it is impossible to match hair, most short hair in SL sucks and in RL I cut my hair with clippers and a #2 guide. No pictures to post yet, maybe soon.

I totally agree, using the camera in a smaller sized house is a chore. I do try to make my doors closer to scale. I usually just vault the ceilings to give camera space.

Personally I think curvy women are absolutely gorgeous, in both SL and RL.

I like curvy women too, but I think there are some misconceptions. Curvy is not a synonymn for fat. A lot of times it's used that way or interpreted that way. Curvy means just what it says... a nice curvy, natural woman with some meat on her backside and thighs (mmmmm *licks lips*). I don't find stick women like Calista Flockheart that attractive, but I don't find obesity that attractive either.

No kidding. People mistaken my two adult shapes for teens sometimes. I usually respond with "18 is a teen and Barely Legal is still legal" =^-^=

I have a friend inworld (Rosie Barthelmess) who has a plus-sized avie. I don't think she posts here but I'm sure if you asked her nicely (and tell her I sent you) that she'd have a lot of tips and advice for you on clothing.

Rosie has told me that she does get negative reactions from other people, and even gets people offering to give her a better shape, or teach her how to make one.

Personally I think curvy women are absolutely gorgeous, in both SL and RL.

Thanks Lewis! I will definately give her a shout out the next time I log her in.

And, my BF is in consensus with you, as are many men I know ;)

I built a realistically sized house and it worked fine for me. The small rooms were an advantage when I sunk it in 20 meters of water, to keep the fog from showing through. This was back before they had good scripted camera controls, even.

Speaking of which...

One thing you might want to try is using my "Tinycam" in "Biggie" mode.

In real life I'm only 5'5". In SL I'm 6'5". I'm still considered to be a little on the short side for men on SL.

I wonder what kind of avatar Harlan Ellison would have?

(the most perfect example of "short guy with a chip on his shoulder" I know)

(yes, I know Harlan would drink his own blood before playing SL, I'm just sayin'...)
He's also the perfect example of a crotchety old man. Very tiresome.

That sounds interesting and I guess it would solve the problem ... for me.

However, I'm a bit of a zealot for accessibility* and I prefer to stick with plain vanilla settings because I like to have a fairly representative idea of what others are experiencing.

For instance, I'd dearly like to use the Restricted Life viewer but I'm not all sure how that stands up to the more recent developments in the standard viewer. I'm thinking about mirroring sculpties and stuff like that

* OK. It's clear I don't give a sh!t for the tribulations of being a tiny. In any case, I'd like to draw your attention to what they say about short people and how they got little hands and little eyes and walk around telling great big lies.

Camera control permissions are screwed up. They're granted by default for attachments and vehicles, but they're denied without asking for anything else, or else I could build a house that fixed your camera for you when you were in it.

Would it be a big deal to get that implemented in LSL? Is there even a JIRA to vote on?

I don't think I've filed a JIRA on that one yet. There's just so MANY "opportunities". :)

In RL I'm 6'4" so I feel validated in being taller than most of you shorties in SL. :P In SL, I think I'm somewhere around 7 1/2 feet tall.

Hey Vance...if you're single and ever come to FL..... ;)

ETA:
From: someone
If you think about it... it is kind of silly to be shorter than the majority of woman in SL, especially when you tower over them in RL.

I must be living in the land of short men because it's rare I find one that "towers" over me. At any rate...your quote is exactly the argument I had with my former partner: He's short in RL; thus I would think he would *want* to be tall in SL. But as many want to resemble their RL selves in SL, I guess he did too.

/me grumbles I shortened my avatar to be accommodating.
