I have been banned from 2 places now because of my height and being labeled "TOO SHORT".

One place i was kicked and banned automatically on arrival. The second place added a height check long after i was a visitor and then the security started banning people when they saw we were shorter than the rezzed height idiocy thingo.

That's wild. You're taller than I am, and I used to be even shorter. I've been in a lot of oh, let's just say "interesting" places and never had anyone wonder about my age, tho they have made mention about me being so short.

I've met you several times inworld and as already mentioned you absolutely do NOT look like a child av. My mind just can't wrap itself around you being banned.

The average heights for American men and women are 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-3.7 respectively, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Which accounts for all the short men I've met (and married one) in my life.

Interestingly, at 5'10" I was too short to become a member of The Tree-Toppers Club (it's probably named something more politically correct now) where tall people could meet each other.

As a springboard from Porky's comment, my former husband used to love me being tall (and in those days I generally wore at least 4" heels, putting his head someplace around my shoulder!!!). He said he felt like people would think, "If that short little guy can get a tall, beautiful woman, he must be something."

If I have a serious RL relationship again, I would like a man at least a bit taller than me. :)

I know I'm taller in SL but that's really just a number to me. If RL height becomes the common ideal, I will probably adjust for that.

Thats exactly how I view it. Being a bit on the short side in RL I aim for being a bit shorter than average in SL too, but not my actual RL height (which would make me ridiculously short in SL). If ever I find I'm taller than too many people I'll adjust downwards again.

Nimue...that last photo of you is GORGEOUS...the outfit, hair, jewels, the entire ensemble is so exotic!! Reminds me a bit of Nicole Kidman's character in the Indian outfit in "Moulin Rouge."

Do you mind sharing where you got that? I LOVE it!!

And Weston...you look gooood! Always have that refined, intelligent look with just enough mischief around the edges of the mouth.

not everyone wants to be tall in SL

lately I have been seeing more average height avatars (average to RL heights I mean)

I've been noticing this as well. When I first began SL two years ago the average female "type" was way tall, huge boobs, no waist and stick legs.

It's nice to see women of all shapes and sizes now. :)

2. Avatar Height = 1.1 * agent.z
this simple calculation comes infinitesimally close to the measurable avatar height, including your linden shoe layer. Obviously not including any prim hair or anything.
The ratio between avatar height and agent height varies depending on the proportions of your avatar. I don't recall the exact calculation, but it only uses a couple of lengths (hip height and hip length, something like that).

From: someone
3. Apparent Height = 0.957 * agent.s

The third number was only provided as a guide for "how tall most people are going to think you are".
And this is totally arbitrary and based on how tall your group of associates think you are. The people I hang out with tend towards a 1:1 height ratio.

And that's not even counting tinies.

So this "apparent height" measurement is worthless.

From: someone
You won't be banned from a shop or club because of how tall your avatar actually is, you'll be banned for how tall the morality police THINK you are.
I'm 4' tall, by agent.z, and I haven't been banned from any club for my size, ever, not in almost four years in SL. I've only had one person, ever, ask me if I was a child avatar.

If you want to pretend that your six foot six avatar is five foot seven, go ahead, we'll keep laughing at you in IM.

This is the only picture of my current avatar that I have on my work computer. The guys I work with wanted to see what I look like in SL so I emailed this picture here. I wore that t-shirt because I thought they would get a kick out of it.
I believe I'm about 6'6" in SL. 6'2" in RL

My height depends largely on my mood and what I'll be doing at any given moment.

These days, I'm mostly in this body:

Sometimes I use this one:

Oy! The first pic I posted on Flickr is a full body shot, and her height I remember! I was 6'3 barefoot with the ruler that measure your avatar up to the eyes! My avatar Juni a year ago:

Now, she may be a bit tall but her shape has realistic measurements. I think I NEVER had boobs over 66% and zero body fat, not even in my most "sexbomb" shapes.

I recently created a plus-sized ava. I've noticed many people have been doing this and wanted to see the reactions I'd get from people when playing her. She is a work in creation, so thus far I can't tell what people think of her yet. I really want to see if people judge her for her shape and size. Sort of a social experiment I guess.

In RL, I'm not svelte, I have a curvy, zoftig but proportioned figure and she is modeled on many woman I know in RL. Most in fact, since at my age the woman I know have long left their girlish figures behind lol. I think she's adorable :) .

I am having some trouble with her clothing-wise. It's astonishing how little of the clothing fits her and I'm sure I'll be doing quite a bit of editing to make things look well for her. Perhaps when she's finished I'll start another thread about "non-average" avatars and see where that leads us.

Lol -For someone that makes Shapes and skins, i don't have a decent photo of myself anywhere.
In all honesty i spend a lot of my time outside my regular avatar ...sometimes i'm a 3ft 9 little boy or little girl even, some times a 5ft teenager, sometimes in adult female or male shape....that's not to mention the constant switching between skins and hairstyles

My closest overall look would be this, but i use one of my other shapes (Abe) with a slightly different skin, similar height, without the tattoos and a bit more slender not as muscular.

RL just a tick below 6ft
SL avatar 7ft 1

.....oh and i mostly wear "House of Rfyres" clothes, as Raven is one of my favourite designers! (shameless plug)....and i get em free!

I once had a tenant who was plus size and her av was constantly smoking. That was interesting.:p I didn't quite understand it personally. But to each their own.

I am 5'7 in RL and gigantuar in SL-I believe 6'2 but some meters put me at 6'7,which I don't think is correct...

In RL I'm 6'4" so I feel validated in being taller than most of you shorties in SL. :P In SL, I think I'm somewhere around 7 1/2 feet tall.

I tried making myself about 6'4" the other day and it just looks so friggin short. I tower over others in RL, but in SL it's may too small.

I recall my first few weeks in SL. I had a shape that was just a tad bit taller than the default male shape. My first friend I met, the first thing she said was "holy crap you are short!" Thus began my eventualy growth.

If you think about it... it is kind of silly to be shorter than the majority of woman in SL, especially when you tower over them in RL.

I have a friend inworld (Rosie Barthelmess) who has a plus-sized avie. I don't think she posts here but I'm sure if you asked her nicely (and tell her I sent you) that she'd have a lot of tips and advice for you on clothing.

Rosie has told me that she does get negative reactions from other people, and even gets people offering to give her a better shape, or teach her how to make one.

Personally I think curvy women are absolutely gorgeous, in both SL and RL.

My two avs are of different heights.

Madhu is on the shorter side, but she's never been taken for a child, probably because she has a somewhat, ah, matronly figure. :D She sometimes looks a little odd next to the typical giants and giantesses that roam SL, but among people who have put a bit more thought into proportioning their avatars, she fits right in, on the shorter side.

Carter is tall - very tall. Perhaps edging on too tall. But the thing is, Carter's shape is so well-proportioned (if I may say so) that she doesn't really feel too tall to me. She's not like some of the elongated stick-figures (with huge breasts) that you sometimes see roaming SL. But she is taller than most women who have realistically proportioned avatars.

Here is a rare look at both of us:

According to the kit Bri is giving out, I have an actual height of 7'1" and an agent height of 6'5". In RL, I have been measured at 6' several years ago and 5'10 recently. But then some of the meds I take can cause bone loss, so shrinking is to be expected.

Agreed. My ex-GF was also a "plus-sized" avatar by SL standards - curvier than Madhu, who is already plump by SL standards - and she was just lovely.
