If you are a woman and 5'10" or taller, you are taller than 99.3% of all U.S. women.

Wow. Guessing that European averages are not that much different, that makes me indeed taller than those 99.3%. I think it's kind of weird that everyone wants to be tall in SL. Being a tall woman is not always as nice as short people tend to think! I really couldn't care less about being tall in SL. I am either a furry or a tiny, or a human of my RL height (making me look like a teenager).

1.32 m (4 feet 4 inches) AV, upwards to 4 feet 9 inches depends on the heels and hair I am wearing :)

Although I do have some hair that makes me almost 10 feet tall. ^^

5 feet 4.7 inches IRL though, which is why that argument of short = child pisses me off.

If you are a woman and 5'10" or taller, you are taller than 99.3% of all U.S. women.

If you are a man and 6'2" or taller, you are taller than 96.1% of all U.S. men.

The average heights for American men and women are 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-3.7 respectively, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

My current shape is based on the (porn) star Gianna Micheals, I also use a 5' 3" shape based on Ricki Raxx, and started with a shorter one based on Gigi Edgley (of Farscape - Chiana). Even at 5' 10" my height slider is only at 70, to show how exagerrated we can get on here.

RL I'm a male (gee that explains the busty shape, except I make it look more natural with gravity..no floatybewbies here), and 5' 11." My rl fiance is under 5 feet. I just wanted a few inches taller for my male.

About 5' 10" in my human av, which is about my RL height. So I'm tall in RL but short in SL. I'm rather taller in my current av, probably about 6'6", and looking taller with a huge mohawk-mane that probably pushes me over 7'.

In RL, tall people, to me, are sexy. I'm 5'6", and 6' and taller feels good to hug on.

not everyone wants to be tall in SL

lately I have been seeing more average height avatars (average to RL heights I mean)

yeah sure we look short, but then again, I look short in RL too LOL

My height depends largely on my mood and what I'll be doing at any given moment.

These days, I'm mostly in this body:

Which, according to the ruler Winter gave me, is an avatar height of 1.985m ( 6ft 6.169in ) including shoes, and an apparent height of 1.727m ( 5ft 8.007in ); when I measure myself without the shoes (are they really 8" heels?) I get an av height of 1.897m ( 6ft 2.704in ) and apparent height of 1.651m ( 5ft 4.993in )

Sometimes I use this one:

Agent Height: 1.845m ( 6ft 0.654in )
→ The height of your physics hitbox.
Avatar Height: 2.030m ( 6ft 7.919in )
→ Includes your shoe height, but not your hair.
Apparent Height: 1.766m ( 5ft 9.530in )
→ How tall you "look" to others. (estimated)

And I hardly ever use this one anymore, but it's still there if I need her.

Agent Height: 2.137m ( 7ft 0.149in )
→ The height of your physics hitbox.
Avatar Height: 2.351m ( 7ft 8.564in )
→ Includes your shoe height, but not your hair.
Apparent Height: 2.045m ( 6ft 8.530in )
→ How tall you "look" to others. (estimated)

In RL, I barely graze 5', I'm 153 cm.

What's this "apparent height" business you're talking about? Is that one of those variants of "the meter in SL isn't really a meter"?

Long story.

Due to the fisheye nature of the SL camera, and it's deceptively "high and far away" default positioning, the "Apparent" height was based very loosely on the perception that one day in late 2006, my avatar "looked" like she was about 5'6", and my friend "looked" like he was 6' tall. So I did a little math, based on our perceived heights at that time, compared to our measurable agent heights, and that's where that number came from.

1. Agent Height = agent.z
This is the sphere that represents your body to the physics engine.

2. Avatar Height = 1.1 * agent.z
this simple calculation comes infinitesimally close to the measurable avatar height, including your linden shoe layer. Obviously not including any prim hair or anything.

3. Apparent Height = 0.957 * agent.z

The third number was only provided as a guide for "how tall most people are going to think you are".. regardless of how tall you ARE, there's an undeniable social component to an avatar's perceived height. You won't be banned from a shop or club because of how tall your avatar actually is, you'll be banned for how tall the morality police THINK you are.

In social testing, this third number has proven to be fairly reliable, and is also remarkably good at making you "to scale" with most SL creations. Some will still be too big, some will still be too small.. But if you're 5'4" or better, apparent, you will only appear to be a child when standing near amazons.

It's by no means scientific.. but it's an important thing to keep in mind when building an avatar. If you live in your own little world, you can be to perfect scale with a meter if you like.. but it's often important to remember that not everyone will see you that way.

Keeping that in mind can avoid quite a bit of drama in adult venues.

I have been banned from 2 places now because of my height and being labeled "TOO SHORT".

One place i was kicked and banned automatically on arrival. The second place added a height check long after i was a visitor and then the security started banning people when they saw we were shorter than the rezzed height idiocy thingo.

I don't know what AVATAR Height is.

I know: AGENT HEIGHT and PRIM HEIGHT

Apparent height is some sort of recent thing i never heard of. Here is a perfect script for measuring your height according to prim:

//string search = "";

integer loud = FALSE;

test(key id) {
string name;
string saeheight = "";
vector size;
name = (llKey2Name(id));
size = llGetAgentSize(id);
float heightfeet;
float m = size.z;
m *= 1.1057; // Multiplier
float f = m * 3.28083;
integer ft = (integer)f;
float f2 = f - (float)ft;
integer in = (integer)(12.0 * f2);
heightfeet = size.z * 3.28083;
saeheight = (string)((integer) llFloor(heightfeet)) + " ft. ";
heightfeet -= llFloor(heightfeet);
saeheight += (string)((integer)(llRound(heightfeet * 12))) + " in.";
llSay(0, llKey2Name(id) + " is " + (string)m + " m (" + (string)ft + " ft. " + (string)in + "in.) tall. (counting shoes) - Prim Height";);
vector junk = llGetScale();
llSetScale(<junk.x,junk.y,m>;);

}

string round_float(float value) {
string result = (string)value;
return llGetSubString(result, 0, llSubStringIndex(result, ".";) + 2);
}

default {
touch_start(integer num) {
test(llDetectedKey(0));
}
}

Um...not a clue.

I have a bunch of avatars because I'm always making new shapes for photo ideas and custom work and now to go with the skins I'm doing. But....I CAN say that none of them are anywhere near the top of the height slider.....most hover just beyond the center I would say.

I think the sliders are deceiving because the perception is....when you first join SL.....that the high end must be adult height and the low end must be small child.....making the middle seem as if it were meant for a teen or a midget. I'm saying that is the percpetion because of the way the sliders are designed. It's just sort of a kneejerk initial reaction. It never ocurred to me early on.....that the tallest setting was somehow 'too' tall to be normal in SL. It's a range and we choose with-in it. If the avatar was designed to be truly human in proportion.....then perhaps LL would have implemented some kind of scale along with it.....or capped it at a shorter height. Then again....the wider range allows for making some really funky goofy characters and a lot of folks do just that.

I don't think people really look beyond that for any kind of guide until they've been in SL for a while and looked at other avatars, and generally gained some knowledge about the entire canvas that is SL.

IM 6'5'' in RL and my main AV in SL is 5'4''. He has short man complex!

Bad Bob the Albino!

My av is 6' 6" according to the Hank Ramos height detector and 7' 2" according to Cienna Rand's ruler. It's more or less the default height for the test male and female avatars but still a shortass by comparison with most male and female avs I know.

In reality I'm a fraction under 6 foot tall.

Just been in world to check my new av.

By 'Hank Ramos' detector: 5' 11" (therefore an 'apparent' height of 5' 8"!?)
By prim: 6' 6" (7' 2" including hair!)

In equine terms, 16.6hh (measured to the top of the withers), so I'd qualify as a horse rather than a pony.

I don't have any updated pictures of my avatar. I have this old pic from February with the shape I made for PXL Efe skin. Looking back, I am very happy with her leg length and overall body look. The head could be slightly bigger, but I use hair most of the time and then she looked ok.

I change my shape(s) almost every month, or when I try on a new skin. I make small facial changes, but also changes in height and body fat. My current avatar has a thinner look and also a very different face. Their height isn't so different, because I like to look "right" next to SL builds and other avatars. If I want to use the background and furniture in a pic, my RL height would make me look very short compared to that.

I know I'm taller in SL but that's really just a number to me. If RL height becomes the common ideal, I will probably adjust for that. I like to TP into a new place and a group of females, and I'm never the tallest or shortest there. In RL I'm 5'6 or 168 cm tall.

I can measure myself inworld, and post back.

EDIT: This shape is Agent Height: 1.821550 m (5 feet 12 inches), measured without shoes

The shape I wear now is for LAQ Tess, and she's actually slightly higher: 1.840679 m (6 feet 0 inches). This height between 1,80 - 1,90 m is my "comfort height" in SL. It's what I like to look at when I dance or just walk around. Average SL female height?
