Hmm . . . does anyone have (or is anyone) a St. Bernard with a cask attached to its collar?

A question that could certainly go either way! :D

I want to be certain to include it on the Bling Array, as well as on Der Blinkenlights Panel.

This sounds like a fabulous device. :D

I've just been made aware of this mystery from a missive from His Mayorship Sprocket. In the process of reading what information is available, I have found the puzzle irresistible, so you may count me in. I always did have more curiosity than sense.

Glad you are on board, SpykeMcCallister! I look forward to making your acquaintance on Sunday. We certainly have our work cut out for us. I agree with Mari, Mr. Shang and HeadBurro... this ad-hoc and varied contingent will most certainly make a difference! I can't wait 'til the day when we finally locate Magellan and his missing crew, and put an end to this uncertainty.

Possible lead...

Perhaps Magellan and company have managed to bypass the Grid barrier and have been exploring here?

As I recall, Desmond and co. managed to punch through the Grid Barrier and step into the void... Literally step into and traverse the void around Caledon!

Oh dear, dat sounds like th' sorta ting a brave explorer like Magellan would really like to do. I sure hope he's okay!

I was too chicken to go myself, as the thread makes clear. But yes, the quasi-stable Gaeta continent sure sounds like prime Magellan territory!

Hoping to make it in by noon, but it's looking a bit bleak for grid time for me today mid-day... *cries*

Amazing work, Osprey!

I've posted a couple posters and spoken with a land seller in Portman Tow about keeping an eye out for Magellan. All in All, a most productive day.

Field notes: Marianne McCann, Age 5 1/2 (excerpts)

"...The meeting went well, but I wish I coulda gone to Portman Tow to check out the mysterious "shadow continent." It sure sounds liek th' sorta place an explorer would wanna go an visit. Maybe when Kim finished her work on the Magellan Finder, we all can explore that area in more detail. Would be good to take it around some of the more notable places in Magellan's explorations, like Mount G'al, Noval Albion, and around the atoll. I wonder what it would say at the crash site!..."

"... so I decided to try an tink about other stuff for a while, instead. I looked through the photocopies of Magellan Linden's logs from the library, looking for anyting I mighta missed. I kinda wish I knew what happened

The last entry is from April 1st of 2005, but he was around f'r moren a year after dat. I wonder if there is some record of his travels after the last entry dat I dunno about. I wish the piccie in dat entry has copied better: it jes looks like a big green blob t'me. I wonder if maybe a field trip to the temple to the Moth Goddess could be arranged somehow. I dun believe I've ever been there.

Jes before dat, he talks about extended negotiations with LIER, an sounds kinda hot about it. I wonder if someting happened there..."

"Odd dat Magellan's log ends April of 2005, but his last known public appearance was Jun of 2006 -- an a month later, all the other Linden's logs were discontinued. They said it was so the blogs could be in one central place, but I wonder if there's some other reason, an if it toes together at all. Might be a red salmon, though..."

"...I seen in th' newspaper where Jack Linden announced the discovery of a new continent - http://www.massively.com/2008/04/08/linden-lab-q2-land-report-lower-sim-pricing-new-continent/ - I wonder if the answers are there? Curious..."

I met up with Ilianexsi Sojourner and Marcos Fonzarelli later on, after the meeting, in Portman Tow. When I arrived only Ilia was there. She was unable to fly, but I was not so hindered. I went over a few parcels and rezzed a vehicle so we could explore the eastern grid border. My Aonghus was not able to maintain normal altitude while we flew along the region edge... the Grid harmonics seemed a bit out off alignment. That or Havok 4 was bjorking my ride.

Anyway, we couldn't see any land to the east, but we could see the shadow of the beginnings of a new continent on the Lindens' satellite map. Later on I ported Marcos to our location to see if he could detect anything more. He couldn't.

I know what you mean about Magellan's blogs/logs.. there is so much stuiff in thereā€“I find new things every time I read them. We should make a trip out to the Moth Goddess Temple. I've never really given it a good look.

I want to find out more about LIER too. They seem to have their hands in a lot of things while keeping under the radar. The bit about the logs getting discontinued is interesting too. I remember once when the forums were "upgraded" a lot of old forum records were lost. The erase spanned a few months worth of posts. I'll see if I can narrow down the timeframe and we can try to cross-reference it with these other incidents.

Hello! I recieved notes both from Babbage and Caledon groups, followed this discussion here, but unfortunatelly wasn't able to attend the sunday meeting. Searching for Magellan Linden is great idea! (Actually I can remember only of two things in SL in the past which I was excited in similiar way, it was discovery of Kahruvel and it's past, and Loki Eliot's Porta Terrarum experiment.) So please keep us informed here... :)

That's great, Osprey!! Bit more hedgehog footage in the next one though, please! :P

After the meeting, HBA and I infiltrated Linden Village and crept through it, planting wanted posters that Marianne fixed us up with on any bit of land we could find with build enabled and no autoreturn. Though there weren't many parcels that fit that description, we did manage to find 3-4 of them. I've gotten one retuned since so there should be at least a couple still there.

I did find that materials picked up at the meeting somehow went missing from my inventory. I _know_ that I grabbed a copy of the milk carton but it's nowhere to be found in my inventory now. Could it be that a Linden goon monitored the meeting and had our resources silently 'dealt with'?? I still suspect Xenon Linden had something to do with the disappearance of Magellan and wonder if he had a spy at the meeting.

I'm not sure offhand.. It could even be that I spaced out and put it on a parcel that had autoreturn..

We got Jack's place, Lexie & Mia's place, somebody next door to Lexie & Mia - Andrew maybe?, and one way north of Help Island Public - about 1 sim due north of Sidewinders's place. Maybe another one about a sim to the west of that last one, too.

The poster could use a notecard (if it hasn't one already) detailing who we are searching for, why, and giving links to pertinent aether-web files. That way it could be posted everywhere and even new people could get up to speed quickly.

I had a suppressed UI during the meeting so missed everything that was said + most of the handouts - sorry if this is being done already.

Interesting strategy - and maybe some progress! Every scrap of info is worthwhile. I'm really bummed I had to miss the meeting, I was stuck out of world as I so usually am mid-day on weekends SLT.

I'm going to do a little poking around of my own... wish me luck!

Mari and I just talked about this yesterday, adding a more thorough notecard. Adding the links, like HeadBurro has at the bottom if his blog post, would definitely help a lot. Nice idea.

http://headburroantfarm.wordpress.com/2008/04/07/the-search-for-magellan-linden-starts-now/

I will make sure to send both you and Miss Chernov a log from the meeting.

Salazar

p.s. I would add that much of the fun of discovery is finding out information on one's own. If we forget to add a notecard here or there, no worries.

Preliminary Research
04-08-2008 15:05
While checking the available data, I came across a list of Lindens, and 'former' Lindens. Of the seventeen former Lindens, two were Magellan and Pony, six had resigned (mostly on amicable terms), one had retired, six others had no reason given, the last had changed his name (though no reason for the change given).

I found this interesting, since in the 'current' Lindens list, there are five listed as having 'departed', yet they are not in the 'former' Linden list. There is also listed one Heretic Linden (by name) renamed to Iridium and now departed (one wonders why? Perhaps there's some brainwashing going on, and the victims change their names to show their support to the 'new order'? Why would one change their name BEFORE departing, if one is going into hiding?).

Also in the 'current' list is Ventrella Linden, with the notation 'Fled from There.com'. No reason for why she (I presume) fled, nor who might be after her.

Next is Enus Linden, with the notation 'Keeper of the Bots'. Remembering the comments about clones and such, perhaps he knows something? Though with a title like that, one should doubtless be careful, if one does not wish to join the ranks of either the missing... excuse me, 'departed'... or possibly the name-changed.

The last name on the list I found intriguing was Nigel Linden, who is listed as having resigned in December 2006. Perhaps he resigned because of what happened to Magellan? Is he still around, or has he vanished as well? Or perhaps been another victim of name-change?

I realize these may be incidental, not clues, yet being that I am not skilled yet at detection, I can only offer up possibilities and suggestions.

On a side note, I had been checking the findings here on Master Spyke's machine, and thought to list my own notations. Yet, when I went to log in on my own so he would not be thought to have done my poor job at research, upon trying to rejoin the forum, I was told 'invalid thread specified'. If it was an attempt at coverup, it failed, obviously, as I managed to rejoin. Yet... perhaps it was only a first attempt at same? Perhaps I am simply starting at shadows, as it were, and it is simply SL being 'borky'.
