Hello fellow explorers!

The Kiosk system is all set to go for the Magellan Milk Crates :D You can pick up your copy from the Parchment on the wall at the Explorers' Base.

Stick 'em out wherever you can and Happy Hunting!

I should have results from the crash site in the next couple of days...sadly my "Coomledopper" has gone kersplat on me, and I need to find a few new parts to fix it. If anyone has 3, 4in wrought-iron Hammerhead Screws and a bottle of Sea Jelly, let me know!

I sadly agree. I think I'd best stay with being a manservant; as a Pinkerton, I am terrible.

Well, at th' least, you c'n help get th' word out. The kiosk dat Higbee jes finished (Yay Higbee!) has t-shirts, a wanted poster, an even a sign onna pole you c'n use to help the search. :-)

As Mari said, for those with little time or no idea where to start, spreading the word about Magellan's disappearance is the easiest and quickest way to help out. Do it any way you can:
• Email Friends
• Post to other web sites
• Send photos to Snapzilla or Flickr, etc.
• Put out a poster or the milk carton kiosk on your parcel, if you have land

Feel free to meet up together on your own to exchange info, investigate locations and plan strategy. There will be some additional meetings to get updates, get folks up-to-speed or to go out on search parties every now and then. Look here or at

http://homepage.mac.com/salazarjack/

for announcements.

Onward and upward!

A friend has invented a system that to allows graffiti artists to leave their tags on walls and beat the return object time - it was an easy job to use this system to place posters instead. No harm done as the land owner can just return them as normal... hope The Lindens see it that way :)

Ah.. this explains the graffiti at the Nova Albion Infohub along the low brick walls. I have been wondering how they accomplished that trick. I would rather we adhere to the landowner's parcel settings in these situations. If they have given us the ability to place objects and not have them auto-returned then I am all for setting out posters and milk cartons wherever we can. It makes a nice puzzle to search for locations that let us do that. This could backfire with folks who don't appreciate it. We should respect each landowner's wishes. This tool sounds like it could be used to plant undesirable objects on a parcel that would be more difficult than normal to get rid of.

Exploring Gaeta

Having a bit of an explore through the formerly shadowed lands of Gaeta. I've not found anything of note as yet, but I shall enjoy my explore I'm sure.

So far there is nothing but gently terraced slopes raising in a sort of domed plateau. Nothing, I fear that would interest so intrepid an explorer as our esteemed Magellan.

All of the former members of Magellan team are still visible in inworld search. Only thing they have in their profiles is this description:

Milo Gessner:
Biologist Arnold Gessner is a self-described "plant archaeologist." He is an assistant professor at SLU and his research centers on plant anatomy, specifically those species found in traditional English Gardens. He has brought advanced tools and rigorous analysis to studying indigenous plant life in far off corners of the world. He is also quite studied in both human and animal anatomy, a strong foundation in the natural sciences.

Carla Falcone:
Carla Jane Falcone has over 20 years of combined military, civilian and government experience. She is a former senior enlisted member of the SL Special Forces and for the last 5 years has turned her ambitious sights to professional adventuring and has been featured as SL Soldier of Fortune magazine's "Man of the Year" 3 years running. She has training and experience in telecommunications, intelligence operations, remote medical management, combat search and rescue, Guerrilla WarfareCounter Terrorism, ect.

Randall Boars:
Dr. Boas has published widely on the languages of ancient cultures. His research areas include historical linguistics, language and prehistory, writing systems, and hieroglyphic writing. He is involved in comparative research on writing systems, case studies on particular languages and scripts, and computational linguistic research using multi-million-word text databases. He is also the author of the bestselling nonfiction book Dead Languages in Three Easy Steps.

Adrien deLane:
Capt deLane is a former Naval Aviator turned system administrator. He is currently employed by a virtual online world, managing over 7000 servers. When contacted deLane mentioned he was "looking forward to some peace and quiet" on his latest adventure.

I've sent them all some note that we are searching for Magellan, and asked them if they could help us somehow, just contact me or Salazar Jack (hope I did right to gave them Salazar's name?). But they probabaly haven't been active for some time,... ehm, years...

Just out of curiosity, has anyone checked with SLU to see if they have a way of contacting any of these people? I suspect SLU probably has them listed as being on an 'extended sabbatical' or something, but it cant' hurt.

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

Spot on, Miss Chernov! I am in awe. Beautiful detective work! Please feel free to list me as a contact if you wish. I will make sure to attempt contact with them as well. This is great news! There's a lot of bits there that we can look into.

I have not heard of "SLU" before, unless that was the name of the university in Phobos years ago run by Hank Ramos, but will try to get an answer from someone involved with education in Second Life to see where to start on this. Milo Gessner is the only one affiliated with SLU, it seems. Keep in mind, it may be that that acronym refers to something less obvious, like one of the Earth-based colleges... Saint Louis University or Southeastern Louisiana University, etc.

Isn't "SLU" embroidered on the library letterman's jacket?

Ack! Good Catch! While I was nipping and tucking I failed to see those discrepancies. The only Gessner in Search is Milo, but the About lists his name as "Biologist Arnold Gessner." Perhaps Arnold is his proper name and Milo, a nickname, middle name or one he prefers over the other?

As far as Randall Boas goes, I think Miss Chernov may have mis-typed in her excitement as his profile lists his name as "Boas" in both the Name Field and the About Field. I have to admit I am a bit excited as well. The only Boars in Search are boars Balbozar, Boars Booran and Boars Koba. Well, there is Boarsarm Westland and Boarsnorts Aluveauz if you count them.

It seems awful coincidential, if he is jes as we start poking around the new, formerly shuttered continent. Maybe we're getting close!

I seened an article in the M2 last week about Magellan, too.

Maybe he found a way in quite a while back, and got trapped there, unable to get out? If the barriers are about to go down, maybe they are weak enough now for the Search to be able to pick him up again.

oh boy.

p.s. Now that I've sufficiently recovered from that shock... this is a very promising development. If he's showing up on the Grid Search then I think we can safely assume that he is alive and somewhere inworld. You may be right, Solomon, that he had managed to slip through the border to Gaeta ahead of everyone else and was not showing up on the Search Directory. If that is the case then he may have been beyond the frontier for a few years now. It seems the Lindens are just beginning to lay down the Gaeta-portion of the Grid as the map images for that continent appear to be very incomplete. I had not detected him while I was exploring that new continent this past weekend. Perhaps he is still be beyond the current frontier and his signal is getting bounced off of the atmosphere? Or perhaps he is in a place that his signal can get through, like an island of Grid fields that the Lindens have laid down far ahead of the resident boundary? So many questions. Now we need to be on the lookout! Maybe one of us will stumble across him and be able to snag a photo? Good G'al where are my batteries?!?!

my biggest fear is that the Lindens are loving this thread and that every employee of LL is just sat around all day long planning Magellan's return and not doing an ounce of work on any other project.

but it would be lovely for him to be sighted in SL and to find new clues to his whereabouts for sure.

Message In A Bottle
04-14-2008 18:12
I just tried to look for Magellan Linden in Search and came up empty. So either his presence info is spotty, the Grid is malfunctioning, he has his presence beacon deactivated or he is not here after all. Would a few others confirm this? I want to make sure it's just not me.

Thanks,

Salazar

p.s. Just talked with Dnate and found that he has discovered something very peculiar... Magellan Linden's profile does not show up when one Search's People only. But it DOES show up when one Searches All. So, it seems, he may still be around after all. Also peculiar, the rest of his crew show up when one Searches for their names in People, but NO DOT show up when the same Searches are attempted in All. Curiouser and curiouser.

p.s.s. I also sent the following instant message to him:

[18:47] Salazar Jack: Magellan.... can you read me?
[18:47] Second Life: User not online - message will be stored and delivered later.
[18:49] Salazar Jack: Please respond if you get this message. A group of folks are wondering what has happened to you. I'm going to drop a landmark to the Explorers' Base on you. Please try to contact someone if possible. If you have Internet access please check out the forum thread here...

Figured some coin would get his attention if nothing else. I don't know how long his profile has been accessible via All. It may have been there the whole time. I always Search for folks under the People tab and have never noticed his profile under Alll when I've Searched there before.
