(It did, but to the east not the west. The Trust purchased the old Ivory Tower Library of Prims land in Noyo from Lumiere Noir a few months ago and also recently won some land parcels that were auctioned off in Bodega, Bolinas and Myrtle all along the Isle of Kahruvel. I've been busy raising some pine saplings to plant more trees in those new areas. S.J.)

Will there be any archaeological works undertaken, Sal?

I'll be inworld tonight at 1pm SL, if anyone wants to meet up at the wreckage, maybe that would be a start?

I'm sure that down the road we'll be looking into that type of research. I'm going to take some preliminary gini scans before I do any extensive planting. To be honest, my attention is on Magellan's disappearance at the moment. I don't think I'll be able to focus on anything else until I get some answers.

I'm not sure when I'll be in, but if I'm not around at the same time today I'll be eager to see what other investigations can be done. I wonder if anyone saw him in world after the 2 year anniversary, or was the episode in the lab the most recent time?

So that may have been the last time anyone saw him. It's too bad you didn't have time to get a better look... it'd help if we knew what his condition was at the time. You mentioned clones or bots... I wonder if that could be the case?? *shudder*

Alliez or Stella may or may not remember the events as well as I did. After we were escorted back the lobby, Jeska shoved some beverages in our hands and directed us to some tables laid out with drinks, appetizers and desserts. I remember feeling a bit woozy after downing my soda, but otherwise fine. It certainly didn't affect my appetite! The gals seemed to be much more out of it than I and both ended up napping for a bit in the little room with the futon just off the conference room. Neither one said anything more to me about the incident and I haven't spoken with either very much since then. If Jeska slipped us a mickey, it may not have affected me as much due to my size.

I don't want to fan any conspiracy flames, but I tried to stop by the explorer platform in the forest within Bodega tonight -- but the sim was not letting anyone in, and was crashing every few minutes.

As to his crash site:

October 2005:

Today:
http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=264711

It appears complete, and virtually untouched!

When Mari posted this I was a bit concerned. I had just been with HeadBurro at Magellan's crash site in Columbia and we had talked about getting some folks together at the Explorers' Base in Bodega to discuss the situation. I flew over to see what was going on.

She was right. Bodega was gone. I hovered there for a few minutes trying to scan the region with my gini, but was unsuccessful. I wasn't getting any readings. Bodega would reappear every few minutes or so and then vanish again. When it appeared I wasn't able to cross over the border. I contacted Osprey Therian, who has property there, and told her it was acting strangely. She was in the middle of a rehearsal, but said she'd check in on it later. Then Mari IM'd me, telling me she saw I was observing from the adjoining region too and then I looked down to see her on the road in Davenport. I dropped down, rather roughly, and did a face plant on the asphalt.

Mari said she had traveled through Bodega, just the day before, and wondered if this was happening because the Grid had been "bork-y." I tried to scan across the border again but was still showing nothing. Not even a blip. That was unusual. Mari tried to use her compass but it seemed to be going a bit haywire. The void seemed to be distorting the space around it as I was unable to see any terrain beyond the border with Davenport.

Mari and I walked out as far as we could along the remaining road support and peered into the emptiness, trying to see if there was anything still visible within the missing region. Sometimes, it seems, there is. Which is strange. But after being here for over four years now not much surprises me anymore.

Mari told me that something like this had happened at her house once, but that she had been able to get into her house at the time. I asked her if she had been scared and she said she was, "...cuz, I mean.. dat's home!" I nodded. She said it was all better the next day. I told her not to worry because the Lindens keep a backup of all regions in the Grid and they can always restore it if something bad happens. Not like when the Erase happened. There was no backup for that. Just then two people on a motorcycle came barreling down the road and careened off the edge of the pavement. They disappeared into the void right before our eyes. A few moments later they appeared back on the roadway, but their motorcycle was nowhere to be seen.

Their names were Chami Setsuko and Kali Shostakovich. They had rezzed their ride at the Noyo Rez Area and had been exploring the area when they hit the impassable barrier. Mari and I introduced ourselves and told them we were investigating Bodega's disappearance. Kali was having a hard time walking as she kept flopping about when she tried to take a step. I scanned her but couldn't detect anything out of the ordinary. Kali wondered if the sim owner was rebooting Bodega and I told her that land owners on the mainland had to wait for a Linden's help with that. It wasn't something they could do on their own.

I told them about our search for Magellan and the strange simultaneous occurrence of the region going wonky right where the Explorer Base was located. They seemed to agree that it appeared more than just coincidence. Speaking of coincidence, just as we were discussing that, Bodega appeared again. My gini began registering readings from Bodega's direction and I realized that this appearance was different than the others that evening. When I walked up to cross over there was no barrier and I continued into Bodega unheeded. We all continued along the road when who should we meet but a Linden! Guy Linden to be exact. He greeted us and said he had stopped by to reboot Bodega and had heard us talking.

I told him that I'd been concerned about Bodega and that it had been appearing and disappearing continuously for the past hour or so. And that we couldn't get in. He told us that, "...it appeared to be trying to run on two different servers at the same time." That explained the vanishings and reappearances, that Grid square was swapping between the two. With that taken care of I decided to go for broke. I asked him if he knew anything about Magellan as we hadn't heard of his whereabouts lately. Mari nodded and added that we couldn't find him anywhere.

Guy said that Magellan had always been a secretive sort, but that he would ask around and see if he could find out anything about his last known location.

I thought that was interesting. Perhaps Magellan has never been too forthcoming with anyone*, including the other Lindens. He then said that he had to check on a few more things before his shift ended. Mari and I thanked him as he flew off on his other errands. We pondered what he'd said for a few moments and felt good about making a bit of headway, hopefully, into the mystery of Magellan's absence. After saying goodbye to Chami and Kali, we all went our separate ways. I headed home to try and make some sense of my gini's data. On the way, Osprey IM'd me and said that just as she was filling out the service ticket on Bodega it came back online. Curiouser and curiouser.

*Reminds me of the stories about my great grandpa, Phyneas Jack, a bit.

Hell's Bells! This can't be a coincidence... we start to look into Magallen's disappearance and the explorer's base is effectively closed down... are we being monitored? Hello Echelon!

It seems awfully co-inci-mental to me. I wonder whay exactly Guy knows, or if he is as in the dark about Magellan as he wants us to believe?

I do hope Magellan Linden is okay! Could be dat he's exploring the new shoreline in the Korean Continent, or off in Corsica, an out of range. At least I sure hope so!

Yes Mari - what if Guy went right off to inform The Powers That Be of Salazar's questioning? If Sal vanishes soon, we know there is foul play afoot...

Yeah, I was there recently too-- (Hi, Mari!) there are houses all around, but the wreckage is still there. I couldn't tell from a quick look around whether anything helpful was there, though.

As a side note, I was doing some searching on line for info recently and found a site that gives stats on residents... it didn't have any info on when Magellan was last seen, but it did include his key. I don't know if that would be helpful or not...

Great leg work, Ilia! Most definitely, I think that would be very helpful. Would you please post his key so that anyone who wants to help look for him can? You know... that whole "many hands make light work" thing.

Urm, I may be being dumb (I often am, sometimes not even on purpose) but how will having his Key help?

I think the key that Ilia is talking about is Magellan's unique inworld identifier (we all have one). It is one of the ways that the Lab tracks us*. I think it plays a role in presence and affects such things as the Friends/Contact list, the Lab's satellite map, and the group members list among other things. It's probably used quite extensively. It's possible to capture someone's key with scripting and use it to keep tabs on someone, or to send them a message without having to IM them directly. Stuff like that. It's a blessing and a curse. There are benefits to having such an identifier as well as downsides. It's all in how it's used or abused. If we know Magellan's key, we can use it to scan for him and, maybe, triangulate a location if we get a signal.

*The jamming of this signal was the main reason that Grandma Thetan made the original gini (Grid Information Network Inhibitor) device. She wanted us to have a way of staying under the radar, so to speak, after we first arrived here. That has since become a bit moot as we now can switch off some of our presence info with the Lab's revised UI. She and Champie Jack have been working on upgrading the gini's capabilities... the current incarnation isn't very reliable yet, but it's better than nothing.

I saw dis page http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Roles which lists Magellan as inactive, with the note "Not officially retired, but blog updates just petered out... " - makes me wonder if not even the Lindens know his whereabouts.

Th' same page sez dat Pony Linden went to the glue factory. Was she takin' a tour or someting?

Hope it's okay to post that sort of thing. If anybody suspects it's not, let me know and I'll edit it out.
