What really, really gobsmacked me about New Orleans and Katrina was 1) How little the USA did to help New Orleans 2) That the greed of property developers destroyed natural defences The US administration did little for New Orleans and couldn't deal with the offers of help from other nations. Not the job of the Federal government. It is the job of private charities, private companies (check out what Wal Mart did compared to any of the governments, and private individuals. No where in the Constitution can I find permission for disaster relief. If you are going to help the hurricane victims, why not the people who lose a house to fire? Why not the car wreck victim? Are they not worthy of Federal aid? It is just a matter of scale. Charity and compassion at the point of a gun, which is what all government aid is, is nothing but theft. _____________________

here is how stupid the smart people are in my town..the district superintendent for the schools in town has lived in the same house for like since he was a kid..his parents gave it to him i guess..
so he makes it to district superintendent 4 years ago and the additions on the house are like 3 times the size of the original house ..he ended up buying the land around him connected to his lot and was digging an in ground pool in this past summer...so he gets replaced and has a good chance of going to prison.. lol i mean..............we are a small town.....everyone knows everyone...........How in the heck did he think he was going to get away something like that? these are the things that have me looking at moving up north sometimes..i swear lol because it took 4 years for the town to do anything is another thing that baffles me.. _____________________
