That's the thing. It's really only those who seem to self-identify who get all wound up, circle the wagons, and start calling names and so on, who I am pointing at. Which is so very counter productive when trying to combat allegations of group think.

A couple of posters completely missed that the OP was injecting some humor into her posts, and took it deadly seriously, and then proceeded to bang on her and judge her predicated on the idea that she was being 100% serious.

One of them said "YOU WERE BANNED!" Are they actually reading what is written? Do people even get the difference between "warned", "suspended", and "banned"? These words are not interchangeable. She said she had 2 strikes, and indicated that they were some time ago, and that she had been behaving since. Her worry now seems to be that since her friend got suspended, she may be the recipient of guilt by association discipline, and is worried that this may be her third strike because of that.

It's a valid concern, especially given how bass-ackwards LL can be with respect to these issues. I've seen people warned and suspended for ridiculous things, and seen people who did terrible things get off with a slap on the wrist. I won't just automatically assume that Bully is a true griefer, without hearing more info first. And if she was once, great! The fear factor of further disciplinary action is WORKING! She said she hadn't done anything in a long time, and that she was afraid to for fear of future repercussions. The system worked, in this case, as far as we know. And yes, she was a bit elusive,but with people already taking every little thing she said and running a mile with it, I probably would be too.

Also, I reread the thread, paying special attention to the first couple of pages, and Colette, I'm am going to have to withdraw my statement where I said that the first couple pages were tame. The OP was called several names in the first two pages, and told that she was being mocked intentionally, among other things. You were one of the only ones who acted like an adult and tried to get more info from her before laying into her (not that you probably would have, in any event). I find you to be one of the most fair and logical thinkers on this forum. Yes, I lurk a lot.

What is it with people who are not at all interested in actually debating the merits of points and counter points and instead launch into the pretend-game that I am somehow being nastier than any of the Droogs who lined up to take their whacks at the OP and anyone who had the 'audacity' to question it? This is a classic tactic of someone who hopes that by simply saying meaningless, factually unsupported things, a different reality than what is actually occurring will take hold. If some of the posse comes in and says 'Yeah that!', all the better.

No, not buying it. You cannot honestly reread this thread and tell me that I am the one who should be singled out for my nastiness. While I have been sarcastic, I have sunk nowhere near the depths that some of these folks have. I've sworn at no one, yet been sworn at, and been insulted from post one, non-stop. The only reason you're singling me out is because I am not siding with you. It's painfully obvious, so don't even try.

Lastly and sadly, you make the mistake of thinking I give a tinker's damn whether or not you like me. Weak minded folks who rely on a group to feel whole may not understand that though. It is of zero consequence to me whether or not some anonymous heckler on the internet likes me.

Aren't profiles supposed to be PG? Mind you, my parents' guidance never extended to adults not being allowed to look at nakedness.

I have to admit though--- unlike gambling and banking there wasn't much writing on the wall that the end of adfarming was near.

... What I would say is that I do agree there is quite a difficult and intimidating atmosphere on the board these days which wasn't here when I first started posting(which wasn't that long ago actually).

I don't think it's any individual's fault, and I think each is actually friendly and open when met on a one to one basis.

There is however a wee group on this Forum who overuse the in-joke, support each other very vehemently, escalate things way to fast and often to an inappropriate and personally insulting level - often to the point of insulting someone's perceived RL situation...

Hear hear. Although I regularly read entire threads in this forum, I can rarely be bothered to post these days unless I can directly answer the OP's question, for precisely the reasons you highlight. The idea of engaging in intelligent (or even not-so-intelligent) debate in which the right to hold a different opinion is upheld without persistent baiting and belittling appears sadly to be well beyond the scope of many contributors.

Yanno, I stopped posting. Not because I was intimidated (believe me I am not, this is still likkle fluffy kittikins by comparison to a lot of places) but because I was sick of being castigated because I DARED to say that people spoke to me privately in world to say they didn't want to get into it here.

I dip in now and then at work when I have idle time. Nowadays other people are saying what I did and I *STILL* get people talk to me about this Forum in world. The latest of which was a very strong minded, independent, articulate and informed person who said "I don't like how it's all so damned self-congratulatory and self referential".

Another person, also a former strong and humourous contributor said far more simply "I don't like how it is any more" (referring back to how it was a long time back really).

The thing for me is that this is all entirely consistant with the way all Forums work, including the things "which must not be mentioned". This is observed phenomema - it is how a minority will react when challenged that they are in fact a minority.

I know the people most likely to flame me for daring to express this opionion either have me on ignore or I have them on ignore. Meh.

***edit*** I am wondering if Kismet is an alt. I'm rather hoping not - I have some respect for the forthrightness of what he is saying and I'd hate to think it's someone I've had handbags with.
