You know, I'm not as offended by the religion bashing as I am about being referred to as an "Earthean" ... that *really* pisses me off!

I prefer Earthean-American. Or Third-Rocker.

It doesn't make sense drunk or sober, Bradley.

I think I need to go on an "ignore" button rampage today. Either that or just stay away from the forums entirely. This is all getting to be a bit much.

Please take me with you.

Maybe if I hadn't stopped drinking and using drugs this post would make sense.

It only makes sense if you have read a few of the John Norman novels. I read "Tarnsman of Gor" and several other novels long before it was a cult phenomena. And enjoyed it a lot more back then. :) Of course at that time in my life I thought "Tarzan goes to Mars" was pretty cool too!

I've read all but one of the John Norman novels....rp'd on a Gorean channel for years, and thought the OP was in poor taste!

Great post Maggie.

I worship the One True God, Rosedale, who came down to Grid in the form of Philip Linden. Of course many say He does not exist - they point to the Griefers; Begetters of Ponzi Schemes; the Ad Farmers and say, "If God does exist, how could He allow this?".
:D

oh but he does exist

I spoke to him!!
People tell me I am crazy no one speaks to rosedale, but I did!!

It's not religion bashing. Its just an example that some things might appear totally normal to one person and totally bizzarre to another.

What are you in intergalactical politically correct terms, if not an Earthean?

Frankly, I wish the Gor author had spent more time paying attention in English. His poor astronomy skills aren't anywhere near as painful to others as are his poor writing skills. On the other hand, as a complete hack amatuer writer who would love to have a book published some day, he gives me a lot of hope. If he could do it, then I have a shot!

Go for it Trout! You would have to be an incredibly poor writer to do worse.

I can't comment on any PC aspects, but "Teran" as an inhabitant of Terra is better use of English. I can't think of an example using the suffix "-ean" to indicate nationality, but you would need a word that ends in an "n" or "ea". The suffix "-n" or "ian" is commonly used. E.g., Austria - Austrian, Iran - Iranian, India - Indian, Indonesia - Indonesian - and, of course, Australia - Austalian.

Inhabitants of Gor, should be termed Gorish or Gorese.

EDIT: English will even insert the "i" - as in Canada - Canadian, but not in Kenya - Kenyan. "Canadan" and "Kenyian" just do not sound right!

Nah, as we all know, Mars (or Barsoom, as called by it's residents) has beautiful princesses, huge imperial city states, very interesting flora and fauna etc...
Why would the Eartheans go to the ripoff copy if the original is there to visit? There must be another reason...

I read all of those books when I was about 12 years old - and thoroughly enjoyed them at that age. IMO the OP would acquire much better English reading Edgar Rice Burroughs, than John Norman. After all - I've been reading Tonke Draag's books - om mijn Nederlands te verbeteren.

If someone was to create Rice-Burrough's world "Pellucidar" in SL complete with dinosaurs - now that would be a reallly great build!

Minion: <clears throat> We found another planet, your highness.

Martian Emperor: <bored> Oh really. Where is it?

Minion: Same orbit as...... <in hushed tones> Earth.

Martian Emperor: <puts hands to ears> Ouch.

Minion: It's perfectly safe, sir. They've never heard of Slim Whitman.

Martian Emperor: <curious> Hmmm..... got any pictures?

Minion: Yes sir. <activates display to show detailed images of Gor> They're very primitive. It'd be a walk in the park.

Martian Emperor: You don't say? <examines reconnaisance satellite photos of Gor> Heyyyyy.... Nice planet, we'll take it! <vapourises minion as manic mood returns> Lock and load....... that sucker's mine!

My first reaction upon reading the original post was, "It's this kind of juvenile masturbatory fantasy that gives role playing a bad name." I'm not sure I had a second reaction, except for, "Why the hell was this drivel posted?"

Maybe for fun?

For people with a twisted sense of humour. I would have enjoyed this very much if some Goreans would have RP'ed a discussion about Earthans (Terans?) and their bizarre habbits, bizarre from a Gorean point of view.

I actually did hit on different things not only Terans being slaves to a imaginay master, I also mentioned pollution, night clubs, drinking.....

Discussion do not have to be "how do I do this" style or "How to get rid of" type.

The English, Irish and Welsh are just as bad. So are the French, Spanish, and New Zealanders. Don't even get me started on the Dutch!
