It doesn't make sense drunk or sober, Bradley.

I think I need to go on an "ignore" button rampage today. Either that or just stay away from the forums entirely. This is all getting to be a bit much.

I'm with you Sunni. *sighs*

I was just providing a hopefully entertaining post, as food for thought for those people who think Gor is bizarre and should be banned.

I am quite familiar with Gor, have read (and own) 25 of the 26 novels and participated in online rp for many years. However, I personally think instead of providing "food for thought" for "those people who think Gor is bizarre and should be banned" you have successfully added fuel to the fire.

I am not going to engage in commentary on religion as that is a subject about which people hold strong feelings.

However, your combination of using a religious analogy to defend Gor I find in very poor taste.

The main point is: everything is bizarre depending from where you look at it, hence the title: A panthers view on Eartheans.

Maybe its asking or baiting for tolerance on Goreans wrapped in a funny story? I am sure there are intelligent residents out there to debate the subject without the question being asked bluntly.

Humour is an approach that softens most controversial topics.

Here a good article on the topic

Ah. Well, pretending for the nonce that it was a question: an attempted answer. Those "gods" you encountered on Earth are really rather like Ubars. The difference is that the gods have clergy who manipulate them to say whatever suits the clergy at the moment. On Gor, the role of clergy is usually played by a supple young kajira ((the one who actually owns the sim :p )).

You're welcome. Glad to help. ;)

...thinking "how can they dare to hurt our religous feelings", usually the same people who point their finger at Goreans...

Once upon a time there was these wretched people who once read a book. It's pages were filled from cover to cover with sinful, evil things such as slavery, debauchery, tribal justice, orgies and unrepentant sex! These misled people had the audacity to take such writing to heart, embrace it, learn it, and make that sin part of their everyday moral fiber. No matter how they tried, the masses weren't having any of it, so the finger pointing and persecution began. Now they're forced to live their deviant existance isolated in small communities, forever removed from the larger, more "righteous" peoples. Damnation I say, to those who dare believe in a book, and take from it something that makes them a stronger person!!!

That book was the Bible, not Gor

No reflection on the books' respective A/authors, but the Bible had a much better copy editor. ;)

Yes, I'm with you on the ignore button. Not something I've used much in the past, but I'm thinking it will make it much easier to read the forums in the future. I've already used it once today and it felt really, really good. :D

I saw that in the "other" thread....lol. I've never used it either, but some people just make me want to push that button, ya' know? When they start making me want to run out and buy a pack of cigs and defeat all my recent hard work, then it's time for ignore, I think.

The bad news is that it hasn't hit rock bottom, yet <sighs>
However, once it does it can only go up, right?

/me really hopes so, anyway.

It seems the Gor author didn't spend much time paying attention in Astronomy class. The Earth has an Elliptical orbit. For large parts of the year we'd be able to see a planet in an opposing orbit. Maybe it is invisible?

At those times, the hand of the Almighty Himself covers the planet to protect it from the prying eyes of Earthean observers. Otherwise, we might have decided to head there instead of Mars.

Frankly, I wish the Gor author had spent more time paying attention in English. His poor astronomy skills aren't anywhere near as painful to others as are his poor writing skills. On the other hand, as a complete hack amatuer writer who would love to have a book published some day, he gives me a lot of hope. If he could do it, then I have a shot!

Nah, as we all know, Mars (or Barsoom, as called by it's residents) has beautiful princesses, huge imperial city states, very interesting flora and fauna etc...
Why would the Eartheans go to the ripoff copy if the original is there to visit? There must be another reason...

You know, I'm not as offended by the religion bashing as I am about being referred to as an "Earthean" ... that *really* pisses me off!
