me too .......... but ... you will note it IS against the sales and services act ... but this would have to be confirmed. I'm pretty sure that if a price doesn't include VAT it must be stated. I'm sure this law was passed some years ago because consumers were complaining that the advertised wasn't the real price. If LL are still advertising tier as it was and not adding a * with a comment about price not including VAT then I would say it was against the European sales and services acts but as they're an American compant maybe they are exempt? However, whether exempt or not, they should announce if they're collecting this tax, even if it's just to inform their customers. |

Oh noes, Europeans have to pay the tax they rightly should have been paying all along! :: plays world's smallest violin ::
I hope the Americans here are paying attention to these tax rates, because that's what the tax structure is going to be like here if we ever get forced into socialized health care. |

I didnt get a Voting ballot form .... Im sorry for my language but labour can go fuck off ..... they tax blindly all the time LL should include Taxaction BEFORE pricing not AFTER ..... as said before ... VAT is a tax thats included into the sales price .... one could say that LL have broken the goods and services act for introducing VAT as an unadvertised cost therefor illeagal Very true, my hubby is going to have a chat with a tax man in the morning to check the legality of this & implications (see previous post) We vote by mail, just get a form every so often to say are you still happy for your vote to be automatically made for the "X" party ![]() |

Unbelievable. I'm so sorry for you folks in the EU. That VAT is ridiculous.

you us guys need to remember too ..... in the UK ,.,,,,, US prices apply with a UK price tag .... therefor everything costs us DOUBLE it costs you... im still waiting for LL to charge us £10 a month membership rather than $10 ......at 2-1 ration ... means you would have to pay $20 to be paying the same

in america, if you buy something from another state there is no sales tax, so a user in say texas would not pay sales tax on items they bought in california, online or mail order. Completely untrue. The online vendor may not impose sales tax but the transaction is subject to sales tax and state tax authorities are going after online vendors for failure to impose sales taxes and getting many large online vendors to sign onto compliance provisions in exchange for amnesty for past transactions. |

I think the fact that taxes are being enforced for something that none of us REALLY own is not the actual problem.. I am not hearing that people are complaining because they have to pay their taxes..its the way it has been done AGAIN! No announcement.. nothing! They have chucked it out and hid! LOL!
I wonder if Pogo.com collects taxes for their premium membership from EU residents... _____________________

Pogo.com (rather, Electronic Arts, or EA) probably doesn't bill you from the UK, so I imagine that the answer is 'no.' _____________________

Oh noes, Europeans have to pay the tax they rightly should have been paying all along! :: plays world's smallest violin :: fuck u too run my island at 88% of costs and if i can`t get rid of it befor the 1st, i`ll be paying an additional $56 ontop of $295 wich will be charged down the chain to the residents as my tier price went from L$81216,45 to L$96647,5755 overnight to break even with no warning what so ever |

Trust me we end up paying for it one way or another. If you would actually READ these posts you would see that people are not upset about the taxes. They are upset that once again LL has not made any effort to communicate this new policy catching many European residents off guard. |

one way to keep all happy is for Linden to give all EU residents an extra stipend to offset the increase, say 100 extra lindens per week on the membership.
The threshold for reg for vat is 58k ukp below this its voluntary registration. I rent all my hosting from USA companies and never pay VAT I buy goods from usa and don't pay VAT This increase must be because sl are now banking in the eu |

Interesting.
When such things happen, the next first (obvious) response will be 'tax dodging' I'd imagine. Let me get my head around this here. First, say you are in the UK, and you have 1 sim of mainland. So... you now pay... (membership + sim tier) x (100% + VAT%) ? Is that correct? Second, say you are in the UK, and you are a basic member, renting 1 sim from a private estate. You buy your $L off the LindeX via credit card to pay tier to an estate owner. I presume that means you pay ($L purchased) x (100% + VAT%) ? Third, say you are in the UK, and you are a basic member, renting 1 sim from a private estate. But you buy $L from SLExchange via credit card. I presume that means you pay ($L purchased) x (100%) ... but no VAT% ? Help me understand this... anyone? _____________________

What don't you understand, Des? You appear to have it dead on. SLX is about to get a big boost in its currency sales division.
