SL5B - No Kid Avatars, please!

Some in RL still celebrate mere tolerance. Grateful for small favors, I guess.

A part of one such community, I well understand the need to choose battles wisely--especially in an election year. Doesn't make it suck any less, but makes the blood taste better when biting one's tongue.

Except for Furries. And Goreans. And Vampires. And Canadians. And Dragons in BDSM gear.

That is true - I'm a premium resident. Some kid avs own land. I know at least one that owns a sim - there's likely more.

Perhaps the fact of the matter is that the community isn't allowed to have a build for itself, but individuals themselves will still be allowed to attend.

But would I want to go, given that? I admit I wasn't hoping to go to SL5B just to see the kids' build - in fact, there's a chance I might not have ever seen it. I'm already a kid av; I think the display is mostly for the benefit of people who aren't - though I could be wrong of course. But whatever. Point is, it still comes down to my presence being just tolerated, rather than really accepted, there. I'm sure I'll find other stuff to do, maybe.

Aren't happy playful children exactly the antidote to exploited children?

If I were part of LL, I would be encouraging the showcasing of child avatars to show that SL actually encourages people to explore what most of us want - children allowed to be children safely.

If this is the case, maybe all those who oppose this can all wear the same avatar in protest and attend the SL5B anyway, just not a child one. Maybe all the same Tiny av wearing a Guy Fawkes mask. A peaceful (and fun!) protest. Picture it, dozens of little bunnies or kitties wearing the same mask...

That's a very funny idea actually - but sadly, the Guy-Fawkes-Mask well has been poisoned. I don't want people to think we're a bunch of chan dweebs!

We'll have to pick something else.

I'm looking at it this way. I'm happy (VERY HAPPY) that I'm tolerated at all, regardless of the avatar I pick. I'm also deeply connected with my avatar as an extension of my own inner self. The fact that I've had this account and avatar for over 6 months and have experienced not one single event of harassment makes me feel very good about my person as a whole in ways I don't feel in RL. And remember, I'm not one to sit still in "safe" regions. (^_^)

I don't mind that LL wants to keep Kid AVs out of the spotlight in such a big event. Are we entitled to anything at all? It might as well be something they soon regret, but still, their home - their rules. (=_=)

I don't see a TOS or CS violation in me being there in my main avatar shape and dress. So, now that I'm thinking of it, I'm sure to show up and represent my presence as a spectator of the scene. (^_^)y

Maybe someone should organize a "Field Trip" with a bunch of kid avvies, as if we're all there at SLB5 as a well-behaved school group?

Maybe all the kid avs should get together and have a big celebration of their own...I'd even regress for a day and go rather than to the other thing.
Banning an entire group of people in SL is ridiculous. I don't think SL would be the same without the variety.

Likewise. I think it's a bad decision and could really just cause more trouble. I also look at the Rep. Kirk's as being the ones to put the blame on. Can't he be caught in a sex scandal already?



To their defense -- but only a little -- without the platform, what is left? If they lost their buisness, would there still be a community present within it? Frankly, I can see why they'd want to protect it, but I also think this is the wrong way *to* protect it.



I'm still mulling over my own involvement: this killed not only the planned SL Children build (which would have been awesome!), but also a separate presention I had been planning. I'm sure there were others.

This doesn't exactly put me in the "Happy Birthday" frame of mind.



Likely none. As an added bonus, the SL5B is all PG sims this year.

How many bother to read the blog posts before attending?

How many will see the message of the day and go?

What is stopping folks from setting up a child avatar based display on a private sim?

May not be sanctioned, but it can all be done.

As it's all PG sims, there shouldn't be any concern as to child avatars running around.

And for the most part, all the communities can function in a PG setting. (even BDSM and Gor, it's just in how they dress)
