1. Cause a lady friend at the time brought up the topic and I'd never heard the term before. Much googling followed :D
2. Cause Jig seems to have a similar attitude as far as men and their utility!!

Well, yeah . . . I mean, I think that MOST of us are firm believers in THAT kind of utility for males . . . but that doesn't necessitate queening . . . there are other

You know what? Forget it. :o

I gave up offering breakfast after I asked the question "How do you like your eggs" and she replied "Unfertilised!".

Pep (Oldie but a goodie. :D )

LOL

I'll second that emotion. :p

Serial meaning sequence. Monogamy meaning one partner. So, a series of partners, one at a time. There's no contradiction.

The word monogamy does not specify "at one time".

What you seem to be overlooking, oh wise and tremendously-aged one, is that for there to be a 'sequence' of anything, there must be....say it with me....MORE THAN ONE.

See? Not so hard is it?
Well done! So serial monogamy is a sequence of non-promiscuous relationships.

There are other long words in this article but maybe you could read it under the bedclothes by torchlight once you have been sent to bed.

Pep (You may think you are bright for a kid, but you are still not very bright, are you?)

PS And if Love is even agreeing with me you had better believe you are making a seriously big idiot of yourself! :D

Ah, I see where my confusion lies. I got my definition here:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/monogamy

From: someone
1 archaic : the practice of marrying only once during a lifetime
2 : the state or custom of being married to one person at a time
3 : the condition or practice of having a single mate during a period of time

Given that Pep is so old, I figured the "archaic" definition is the one he should be using.

Well, as I am in no position to comment on the latter, don't need to feel threatened by THAT, anyway. :)

HAH! Bailing Pep out????

My only concern when he gets like this is to make sure that I'm well out of the blast radius! :p

Oh, but you do *every* time; you just haven't got it through your thick skull that you're going to have to do a lot more growing up before you can play with the big boys.

God this thread is moving fast! While I was off looking up a few words, it tripled in length.

From: Smith Peel
Says the guy who likes to cuddle !!! lolz

Sign me up for more of that!

Cody said that he didn't think personal inclination had much to do with it, but I think it does. In my case, I find it hard to handle multiple relationships. I once briefly dated two guys at the same time, and I was a nervous wreck. After a week I broke up with both of them. It was too hard to handle.

In SL it's immeasurably worse, since you're always reachable by IM, and the question "tp me?" has to be answered in some way.

I was involved for a while with a guy who had multiple partners. He was a wonderful man, but emotionally the situation was a bit deflating.

I'm sure that some ppl can manage it, but I'd rather be the the one woman of the one-woman man.

Do you mean that monogamy primarily benefits the woman? The term itself is male-centric, and implies that it's his choice.

Wouldn't a female-biased "model" be multiple husbands?

.
Mono = one. Gamy = marry. What's male-centric about that?

Cuddling has always reminded me of watching a dog drink from a water-bowl. It's slop slop slop and then shaking the head off.

I have to say at this point that among the advice my Dad gave me long ago was that "The only thing more stressful than having a relationship with a woman is having relationships with more than one woman."

Pep (I know what he meant now. :( )

Well, yeah, but I think that Seven was implicitly contrasting it with polygamy, which USUALLY implies multiple wives, rather than multiple husbands. For the latter, polyandry is more usual.

I think that there is a subtle phallocentric bias in this thread, actually. Particularly when Smith posts.
