I like to let my cam rove around in crowded places to look at how others are dressed, look and behave. On several of these 'avi-watching' exploits I had someone IM me with the words: "I see you're looking at me ", even though my avi was far from them. Am I being toyed with or are there really scripted objects or other means to know if someone has their camera on you?Show look at. Yeah. I'll leave a place if I don't get enough people perv camming me. If you don't want people to see you perv camming them, turn that off in Emerald. But just note that some of us want attention, and if we can't tell that we're getting it - we leave. Why else would I be in a dance club using my own dance HUD and dressed up to the nines unless I wanted all the eyes on me?  _____________________

Now here's an idea. Instead of having little pets flying around us, we could have a bunch of crosshairs orbiting us. They could double as facelights - for those who MUST have facelights. Options for colours ..and bling, for those who MUST have bling. That's awesome. You could fake popularity to make the other avatars jealous! _____________________

Don't need bling . . . in fact, I hate bling. But a facelight is an absolute necessity. They can have my facelight when they pry it from my cold, pixellated fingers . . . yeahh yeahh I know they add to lag , so i only use a single one . . but I'm dark skinned and a facelight , paricularly in enclosed spaces such as clubs etc , is an absolute necessity for me too . |

In my case, since I'm still relatively new to SL is that I'll cam around at a gathering and look at others avatars. Typically thinking to myself "wow! That looks good! I wonder how that effect was done?" Sometimes, I'll take some snapshots to show my non-SL friends. Think of it as potential recruitment or as a way to show my non SL playing friends just why I play SL. Everything from Fishing to building. This brings up a great point, if someone sees a newcomer to SL looking at them and chews them out what sort of impression will the newcomer have. Personally I don't see why people should have an issue with this in SL, leave the neurotic stuff in RL where it belongs. |

I don't use Emerald, nor a I particularly interested in doing so, but I did look at it's "features" since it has been declared the greatest thing since sliced bread. 99% of them are of no interest to me, but a good portion of them seem to be these "paranoia tools". Why would anybody really want them, why would the designers even think them up?

I had a similar experience with a girl wearing a blocker . . . . she said she considered it rude to be checked out silently and not to be asked politely where she bought her clothes . Personally it would drive me crazy if I kept on getting IM's all the time just asking where I bought my clothes & hair and having to keep searching my invent for the LM' s On What the Fug flickr, there are a lot of posts about purposely clicking underneath those 'shields.' People find them ridiculous, ineffectual and lag-alicious. The comments also usually add how ugly the outfit is that the person is trying to 'hide' and how often the clothes are copybotted as well. I haven't done this - I don't care if someone wears a shield. I do find the protest of being looked at or clicked on a bit silly, since a lot of it is accidental anyway. But, strangely I can empathize with those who don't wish to be talked to 'a certain way' (sexually harassed) or stood too close to, since those things can be done purposely for the 'creep effect.' The comments over there are funny. My point in replying, though, is that this may be what people are doing. 'Click attack' to discourage the use of shields. Especially if there is a hunt going on, people resent the lag this paranoid need for 'shields' can cause. |
