Waddya mean "However"??
You mean "Even better..." Shirley :)

Well, if you haven't tried it, do. In normal social situations, your avatar will look unfocused... kind of dimwitted, staring off into space.

However...

If I'm in the same space as you, be sure that I am going to cam in on you and read your profile at some stage.

Doesn't matter if you're male, female or indeterminate -- and regardless of species or proportion of organic.

I was excited, until it became clear you weren't talking of me personally. *shakes fist*

It doesn't have to be sexual either.

Yeah, right.

alt-click to focus your eyes where you want them to look, then use camera controls to position for the shot. You can ctrl-0 (the depth of field setting thingie?) for ultra-closeup before you use the camera controls.

edit: Actually, when took shots of me modeling, I also sometimes brought in a 2nd AV just to take the pic. It was quicker that way.
.

I will alt-click to focus my eyes, then go to snapshot preview and freeze frame to zoom around myself to my heart's content. :)

yes its true

and I dont always think ppl are really perving every time they look at an avatar either, just wanted to say that.

I often will cam in to see what avatars are wearing and their accessories. I make things. I'm always interested in how things are put together. I try not to stare too long though. And if I really like something, I'll click Edit and find the creators name so I can look them up and buy.

No, of course not. I'm sorry if it sounded like that was what I was implying.

Thanks for both answers. I'll check this out, Destiny: it's useful stuff to know, particularly for women who already know they are being stalked.

oh nooo wasn't thinking you were at all, just wanted to say that so for others that may not even be aware of this feature would look at another side of it.

I like to let my cam rove around in crowded places to look at how others are dressed, look and behave. On several of these 'avi-watching' exploits I had someone IM me with the words: "I see you're looking at me :)", even though my avi was far from them. Am I being toyed with or are there really scripted objects or other means to know if someone has their camera on you?

Just curious, and btw. I'm not talking about hovering outside of someone's house as a peeping tom. I'm quite aware of radars that catch that kind of behavior.

I'd be pretty full of myself if I were to IM someone like that just because they had their cam locked on me. I often glance around a room/area to look at people or things. Then I may resume a conversation in IM, run afk etc, and ignore the view for a while, remaining locked on to a random object or avatar. Sometimes I have returned to the computer to find my cam following an avie around a store, not having realised I locked on to them while randomly alt-clicking about. :p

This thread kinda reminds me of when i was doing a bit of work in London UK and the bloke who was "minding" me said we should go to this restaurant - famous one which we both knew run by this acer chef so wicked nosh. Anyway, I was so fu&king exhausted coz it had been a "hard day's night" as they say, that I kinda just sat there with a glazed expression on my fizz. So this head waiter comes trolling up to us and says, "Excuse me Miss ****, (coz he knew me) but would you mind not staring at the lady at the table to the right of you; you are making her feel uncomfortable." Anyway, I was nonplussed by all this and actually apologized (which isnt normal for me). But I fell into my reverie again, and this time this woman got really ratty and loudly said "For God's sake, woman, STOP staring at me, youre creeping me out!!" Anyway, this alerted my minder who got a little ratty himself. Some words were exchanged but we all settled down. My fizzy drink arived, and the usual apairo'teef and Horses Ovaries. Few minutes later, this woman went absolutely ballistic, and threatened a real incident if I didnt stop staring at her. I was so em-bare-assed coz I wasnt even aware I was staring. I still feel bad coz she just jumped up and stormed outta this restaurant with the chef owner all pis2ed off with the rumpus despite my protests that I really wasnt meaning to stare. I know, I shoulda worn sunglasses but frankly I cant see the dinner plate if I wear them in one of those mingy lit Ace places. Funny story, huh?
So it just goes to show you can stare without knowing youre staring.

Not so long ago, I was looking round a dress shop with a friend of mine, when a complete stranger started chatting to us. Just before we'd left on our shopping expedition I'd been showing my friend some new hair I'd bought that you can wear up, and that either you alone or anyone can let down, depending on which sort of comb you've put in to hold it up. I'd been demonstrating this feature to my friend, and hadn't bothered to change the comb to one only I could remove.

Anyway, there we were chatting away, not about hair, and suddenly my hair comes cascading down round my shoulders. Our interlocutor says, "I hope you didn't mind but I saw you were wearing that new hair by so-and-so, and it looks really good, and I'd read about how you can let it down and I wanted to see how that works".

I thought that was going a bit far.

In my case, it's fairly assured I'm perving.

I see this thread and I can't help but hear the 80's song in my mind...

"I Always Feel Like, Somebody's Watching Me."

Applies even more here, it would seem.

Oh, and is it really paranoia if they ARE out to get you? ;)

I think it's horribly rude to stare, and would never ever do that.

The other month I saw a woman near the hangout (but not at the hangout - and I only glanced briefly) who was wearing what I recognized as strippable clothing, so I clicked it all away and then IM'd her to ask how she was doing.

But I never once stared.

I wish you hadn't done that. I was taking a bunch of kids on a field trip.
