![]() Who do you think are the most powerful women in Second Life and why? Either post to this forum or email me directly at catherine@lindenlab.com. Remember, I need a Second Life name and, most importantly, WHY you think they are powerful. Thanks! hands down I'd have to say Vivi Odets. She runs heartland with wisdom and heart. She is the sweetest lady I've met in sl. I am proud to call her my sister. |

Powerful Women in SL
04-28-2006 22:14
My answer to the posted question of powerful women in secondlife would be...{in random order} {A} Sweetheart Baskerville, and {B} Ravan Pennyfeather, and {C} Elaine Marlowe.
Sweet has been in SL a very long time; knows all the ins and outs; is a very honest and upfront person; in short she "walks her talk". Ravan is also a very powerful woman. Dominate, Knows her business, educated, also "walks her talk". Elaine is also very knowledgeable about business in SL and has the marketing insight it takes to be very successful. I'm honored to know ALL THREE! Sincerely, Dix Donovan |

Forcythia Wishbringer is the real deal. She and Wayfinder have built up the incredibly successful Elf Clan to around 500 members and four sims. She's sweet and she's powerful too.

My vote goes to Karamel Madson, she has a lovely, helpful personility. She has put a new meaning into events with her prim made food. The detail she puts in each prim is unbelievable. She is generous with donations, and on and on. And, I bet she doesnt see herself as powerful, because she is humble.

Alliez Mysterio
04-29-2006 07:20
Alliez Mysterio is, in my opinion, the most powerful woman in SL....not based on money, nor land holdings (although she does have 23 Sims and counting), but because she understands what the word "power"means and respects it.
If you met Alliez for the first time, you would never know how much she actually does have in SL. Her personality, her helpfulness, her honesty, her fankness, her humour, her compassion, her ability to treat ALL those in SL with equality and respect.....all those traits that Alliez displays on a consistant and daily basis make her a very powerful person to whom many are drawn and seek out for help and guidance, even if it does not involve an issue with her Sims. People know they will be treated with respect and dignity, never talked down to, never made to feel they have less than she does in SL. Combine those traits with the ability to run 23 Sims in game, rent then out, keep the renters happy, resolve neighbor complaints to the mutual satisfaction of all involved, and still be able to enjoy SL and have fun and laughs.....that makes a VERY POWERFUL WOMAN! (and yes...Alliez is a woman in real life...for those of you who wondered). |

Alliez Mysterio Without a Doubt!
04-29-2006 12:40
When it comes to powerful women in SL it is not about Land Holdings or Lindens in her account or influence. It is about personality and how she conducts herself in business and social experiences in world.
For those of us who have the fortune to call Alliez Mysterio a friend there is NO DOUBT who is the most powerful women in Second Life! Yes, She and Tony have a wonderfully successful Land Business in game. Yes she is probably wealthy in terms of lindens and yes she can weild some influence on in-world politics but above all she is a gracious, caring woman. When you first meet her you FEEL her smile and her polite and warm manner is contagious. She always seems to be on the go, helping newcomers as a Mentor/Greeter, addressing the needs of the many people who rent land on her 23 sims or lending an ear to a friend who needs one. I am sometimes amazed at how many hats she is able to wear! I have had the great pleasure of being associated with Alliez for most of my time in Second Life and I look forward to a long association with The Most Powerful Woman in Second Life! Thank You for giving me this opportunity to express myself regarding this warm and wonderful woman and Thank You Alliez Mysterio for all you have done to make this a wonderful place for all who's Second Lives you have graced with your warmth compassion and friendship! |

Woohoo just what we need more of. Circle jerks.
Lewis: You are not in a position to call anything sexisim against women. You aren't one. Go make trouble on your own forums so you can mod yourself. I would like to unnominate people first: Lewis Nerd - Not a woman. A weak minded boy who feels the need to force his opinions on others. Jenna Fairplay - Selling freebies does not make you powerful. It makes you weak. The above listed content creators - While creating things are fun, it does not make you "powerful" it's what you do with your "fame" that makes you that way. Nominations: Trinity Serpentine - being a DJ in SL before it was cool and still doing it. The only real power anyone has is the ability to make everyone laugh. She does this well. Ulrika Zugzwang - The queen of animations in SL. Making the forums actually interesting. And Neualtenburg. Alliez Mysterio - One of the nicest Land Barons there could ever be. _____________________

Trinity Serpentine - being a DJ in SL before it was cool and still doing it. The only real power anyone has is the ability to make everyone laugh. She does this well. In all seriousness, can I second this? In my experience Trinity approaches ach person in the same, non-discriminatory fashion she always has, open, friendly, alsways supportive and a true asset to Second Life. _____________________

There isn't any individual "power" in SL, and this question is highly sexist.

Ironically the real "power women" are working in the real world playing hardball with the big boys.

Lewis: You are not in a position to call anything sexisim against women. You aren't one. Go make trouble on your own forums so you can mod yourself. I would like to unnominate people first: Lewis Nerd - Not a woman. A weak minded boy who feels the need to force his opinions on others... I believe those statements are both incorrect and sexist. In the first statement, the writer is accusing Lewis of calling this thread sexist against women. He never said that. I believe he was saying it was sexist because it excluded MEN. (I happen to disagree with him on this.) However, I believe the quoted statement is itself sexist, if the writer is assuming that Lewis can’t determine if something is sexist because he is a man. To assume that a man is incapable of knowing sexism when he sees it is, IMO is flat wrong and sexist in itself. In the second statement, the writer is attacking Lewis as a person. Again, as I stated in an earlier post, I think this is wrong and outside the guidelines of these forums. It also takes away from the quality and value of the entire thread. Catherine used the words, “wealth, influence and social standing” in her criteria. Which, seems to me to imply the powerful and wealthy women of SL. I, like some others, would like to nominate two women whose impact on Second-Life is more along the traditional way in which, women have historically gotten things done, behind the scenes, and with love and attention to detail. Robin Sojourner - built and maintains the in-world Texture Tutorial. She also has selflessly given of her time and knowledge to the Design and Texture forum, helping many a new clothing designer or texture artist. All of this has been done without fanfare or seeking attention. Tateru Nino – The mother of Help Island has directly or indirectly helped more new residents than just about anyone. “Tat,” has been a mentor to the mentors. She runs the Gathering of Volunteers meetings and is always willing to answer a question. ******* Warning, going slightly off-topic ******* Lastly, a write-in candidate, I assume he is a he, by his name. However, since he is a dog, I don’t know for sure. Travis Lambert – Build and maintains the highly successful, The Shelter. Many new residents have found it to be a safe haven from the “welcome” areas and high intensity of SL. This retreat allows then the time to get orientated and feel more confident. These three and many others like them, both male and female, in my opinion have dome more to keep SL profitable than the rich money/land barons we read about so often. I am not trying to take away anything from the rich and famous. Many, like Lo Jacobs, also give of their time, money and talents to help new residents. I recently had someone tell me that if I had not arrived and helped them learn SL, they would have quit. It was too overwhelming to them in the beginning. While that incident made me feel good, it also got me thinking about how many paying customers are brought in to Second Life by the people who quietly go about helping others, one-on-one. That is a feature story I would like to read. Jen |

For me a powerful woman is someone who is very talented, has the money, and is proud, however, is someone friendly and helpful, someone that doesn't use the power of money to be kaky. Is not someone that charges tons of over price ideas to take advantage of what she offers. Someone powerful not necessary has to make all the money, I am sure that helps. I go by talents and personality.
Someone Powerful in my opinion, these are.. Torrid Midnight Mistress Midnight Marilyn Murphy Nonna Hedges Leyla Firefly Munchflower First Page Alliez Mysterio These ladies I love them, I have worked with them for a long time. And they have never changed. They love to help others with a smile. They know how to carefully make the money. They are just so talented. And the most important, if you need a simple advice from them, they always have time for you. Eventhou sometimes we could be months and months without talking to each other and they still as friendly when you contact them. Munch, one of the most busiest woman and talented, you can have a problem or question about her skins, and she always helps you. Torrid and Mistress, wow, I love these two girls... they are always smiling and always helpful. Nonna, she is like a family to me, I learn so much from her... Leyla.. one of my best friends, saw her from the beginning growing and growing and we always talk how she started. First... always so helpful at TeaZers, with the University and giving people's work, to help them start in SL. And Alliez, she is so busy busy and always says.. "let me tp you so you can see what I am working on" Marilyn, she is smart, talented. Maybe some wont share my opinion but I know how real she is always with a smile and never ignores IM's, the simple hello... is all it counts... I am sure there are a few more.... like Sensual Casanova, Ari... from the beginning these ladies gave me the opportunity as a model and start in SL.. they inspired me a lot. I dont talk to them much because we each took our ways but I am always thankful to them. They still work hard and are very helpful to the new resident. They still have time for their designs. Ohh... Lash Xevious... for me, she is powerful, so talented, and yet, she always answers a hello...Jennyfur Peregrine, very friendly lady and succesful in SL... Anyway, many of you have mentioned ladies I have never heard of, and I have been in SL over two years... if they were so powerful, how come I haven't heard of them? lol DELETED some other comments... Zip Zip... _____________________

June Dion - owner of the incredible Bare*Rose clothing store. She doesn't care about money and will bend over backwards to please her friends and customers. We as assistants and greeters marvel at her works, and how she can crank out a complex build right before our eyes. I can think of only one other store (Nevermore) that can be evenly matched with B*R's designs and success. If they ever went in on an island together, it would the galactic center of the SL clothing universe.
Travis Lambert - I didn't know Travis was a she? Anyway, probably has the most successful newbie hangout (next to the welcome area) in all of SL, who doesn't relay on camping chairs to get the high numbers the sim gets. Loved by all. About this thread. Whether its Men or Women in power...if you're not humble, you're not worth jack. |

I nominate Blu Caligari and Moonie Montale. In my eyes, not only are they the most influential women in SL .. they are my Mom and Grandma. Love you both! ![]() |

I nominate Simone Stern, she is one of the hardest working designers in SL. Her hand drawn outfits are a wonder. She is always there to assist a customer with questions and will gladly make any changes. She helps newbies, by giving away many of her fine garments. This is a Woman that represents the finer points of SL, she is creative, as well as successful.
I also would like to nominate Jade Opel for untiring work, she is always there for a helpful hand. Her creations are a wonder, and she knows how to handle a nervous bride. (That right there is a magical thing!) She never says "No!" to anyone, she has a thriving business that caters to everyone in SL. Her undying dedication to making things better in SL is beyond the norm. Her creative flair shows in everything she does. Lastly I nominate Tink Buttercup, here is a lady with a creative flair. Her island is a wonderous place, her animations are beyond fantastic, and she is kind and friendly as well. She runs one of the most thriving business in all SL, with a history of perfection in her work, she competes in a male dominated world of animations. Her slaes are tremendous, her perfection of the art of animation is amazing. Her business savy, along with her creative flair makes and wonderful combination. She is one of the fine woman of SL. _____________________

First off, Thanks Skippy.
The powerful woman thing throws me as I do not know how one could have power in the context of a game in which any influence ends the moment one closes a program or account. Perhaps influencial is a better term or even role model but of course that is subjective. While many aspects of SL do resemble RL, I am not so sure SL is a male dominated world. I have known both men who play a female AV and women who played a male AV. Perhaps that this is a known occurrance has the effect of breaking down gender bias in SL but it is certainly argumentative that SL is a male dominated world regardless of gender populations. In my experience, SL has been an equal opportunity platform and a wonderful community. |

Which does not exclude them from also being in SL having fun. This woman who plays a male avie has testified before Congress. Others share my experience and spent years in Washington DC with the movers and shakers. Guess my image of a powerful woman extends beyond playing house in a virtual world game, but I realize to many this is their total world, first and second and to those people this is power. _____________________
