Certain 'communities' getting leeway?

I have read through this entire thread, and I have one question. Who is this "offending" furry? For all we know, its just some troublemaker in a furry av trying to stir up trouble and make furries look bad. Furry avs aren't exactly rare, and can be easily purchased. The av in question is fairly common.

And when I dropped in on the W-hat compound in Baku, one said (I can't remember which, but then I can't name names) "I gotta buy a fur av". That was before I got shot with a watermelon gun for being there.

From: someone
I'd guess this happened because said Linden was afk or too busy with IMs to notice.

That's often the case. Or they're off in another app, like a browser, without leaving SL. Or maybe the attachment ghosted.

On one hand there's a bunch of likable, upstanding SLers who contribute tons to SL, and on the other, there's a bunch of whom the majority that I've met like to grief and harrass. Which group is more likely to get the benefit of the doubt? Hmm.

Well, of course you agree. You are an SA Goon, and hate furries by default. I can't comment on the picture that was taken cause I can't see it well enough to determine what the thing actually was. But I guaran-damn-tee you that if that was taken in a pg area, and it was a dick. The Linden that was present would have taken action if he/she had seen it. Just because a Linden is there doesn't mean he is 'there'. They are often caught up in IMs and such, or AFK doing Linden type duties. All someone had to do was send an IM to him, and the situation would have been taken care of quickly.

Actually, Dev, hate to break it to ya, but i *AM* a furry. Look me up in-game sometime if ya need proof. Nowhere near a SA goon yet, but still, nicetry. As I stated though, the furs do seem to get some leeway, be it intended or not.

I'm not sure Furries get more "leeway" as much as they're generally just more behaved. It's not like they go around actively trying to attack Goons for what they are. I mean, if any group was out to get another, I'd definitely suggest the Lindens ban the aggressor group entirely.

Devlin, you are mistaken. As with the above post which proved something. We dont hate furries, we hate the furries that even other furries hate. Mainly those that take it too far (Dress up in fur costumes, fuck their plushies [ YES I know not all furries do this, most dont, but there is a small majority that do], ect.) We (as in a few goons) dislike the furries who take it too far. I dont hate any furries personally, infact I even have a few friends who are furries!

Are you saying the Furries are given too much leeway, or the group hosting the event is? It's not clear.

And I agree with those that say that just because a (brand-new) Linden was standing there, this was accepted behavior. We do not know if the Linden saw the avatar, or whether action was taken behind the scenes. Ghosting attachments, private abuse reports - there are many explanations.

It is my understanding that:
  1. The guy dressed as a furry was a goon
  2. The Linden was idle
  3. The goon has since been banned

This is based on what I have been told, and the following post from the SA forums:
From: someone
They came out of the closet to say:
Okay.

Christmas day-

As soon as I got on my mission was to befriend some non-goons in SL, and decided that furries would be a good start. So I got myself a Renamon fursuit and giant horse cock to go with it, and everyone got a kick out of it. Later, I went to W-hat's HQ and just danced around for a while, exchanging blows with Phizzle Duck untill I got TPed to Darkwood, where we all praticipated in a jolly fun archery contest, in which I decided to bare my proud horse cock to all. I made it to the finals, and me and the goons decided that after my last shot we would all go crazy, but in a friendly kind of way. I, AND ONLY I decided to start humping the idle Linden, which is the only thing to me that sounds bannable.(Maybe for 3 days, it's not that bad.) Then one of the land owners contacted me and said it was a PG area, which I didn't know since I wasn't paying attention when I was TPed. I said I was sorry, and hastily returned to Baku.

From there I contacted her(the land owner) again and said that I was very sorry, and didn't realize it was a PG area. She said "apologie recognized and forgotted ;)" Which to me sounds like I was forgiven for my deeds. So I logged out for a bit, when I got back on there were a couple of e-chicks who said I was awesome, we all danced, and they left. Now we are going into post-Chirstmas time, and I'm flying around with three other people as scurvy sea dogs, not bumping or bothering anyone, though we were shot out by random people.

Then my screen goes Grey and I, Mud Daligdig is perma banned.

I was wondering this, too. A property owner has the privelege of reporting abusive behaviour on their property, but they are certainly not obligated to view nudity as something shocking or in fact to report it. On the one hand, being upset by a naked av - even an anatomically correct one - is ludicrous, but on the other, sporting wood, while welcome at some events, seems excessive for an archery contest, and no doubt will be viewed as an attempt to oppress others with your genitalia.

Again, a hate crime in the works. Mind your own business and let people do what they want to do. And, get over yourself, you aren't the model character that all else should strive to be. (That's to all those who 'hate' Furries who act a certain way, look a certain way, or are sexual in private.)

edited to fix whatever the heck i did with the quote last time

Getting shot with a watermelon gun in Baku is par for the course. A new player may have just got ahold of the gift pack of guns and was trying them out. Im quite sure you werent shot out of hate or spite.

And it might of been me saying I needed to buy a fur av, as ive said it several times.

I got a picture of Lee Linden spankin my bare arse, with a hooker around one arm and a sign saying 'Got Latex?'

Just because someone has a picture, doesn't necessarily mean it went down that way :P

Siggy.

You are an SA Goon, and hate furries by default.

Why is it, that being a goon is always equated with hating furries?

If you're a furry that's throwing dramabombs all day long, making it obvious to everyone in public that he likes to wank at furries in "weird" situations with 20 genitalias attached to all possible spots, then you can be sure to expect some flak from the SA crowd.

But if you're a furry and don't shove that fact into everyone's face, then you don't have to expect troubles from anyone. At least in theory, because the bad apple syndrome applies here too, because newer SA members are apparently unable to see that nuance in judgement. Hell, there are even SA members that are known to be furries, and they're not getting hunted with torches and pitchforks.

We had quite a few furries on our turf, and we didn't bother them too much, au contraire, some enjoyed their stay. We have to say that the same people didn't show off their furrydom by running around naked with genitalias attached.

If you don't have anything constructive to say, then don't post. You are throwing around with generalisations, so expect a reply!

I am just kind of reading this over - and the one thing that keeps going through my head is this -

How can a group of people surround anyone in game who is seen as 'different' by them and not expect the AV they surround to not get upset? Unless you have worn those shoes...those of being made a target for prejudice - then you can't sit here and really make any contribution to how it might have felt. I can tell ya - it felt threatening - regardless of what they may have been doing.

I am not yet a member of the furry community, but I have furry AV's - a fox and a bird.
I am a staunch supporter of anyone/group making a presence felt by their mere existance - they should not have to hide or pretend to blend in. There is nothing special about 'regular' av's except that they fit a perceived, acceptable image of who/what should be playing this 'game'.

If you tried this in RL - with a person from a minority group - (for any reason!!) you would be arrested and jailed for doing that. I have seen terrified individuals surrounded by 'well-meaning' (not even playingfully threatening!) folks who say nothing... but surround and stare. Its a horror show believe me.

If you want to act out mob situations, I suggest you go to a sandbox... nominate one of yourselves to be the 'target' and then have at it. Its not acceptable behavior and ya might as well learn it now.

Sorry, but this pisses me off. :(

HAHAHA! I just read (I had misread before) that it was a Goon all along who took part in this "OMG furry dong" thing. How clever. Perfectly disgusting. I keep getting my prejudices about the Goons rebuffed every time I come into these threads! You think I'd learn?

The sad truth about SA furrophobia
12-27-2004 09:16
I suspect that these guys really do have some deep-rooted pathological fear of talking animals. Some adults have clown phobias due to being frightened by a clown as a small child. Maybe what these furrophobes have in common is a traumatic experience at Disneyland.

Mom: "Look Jimmy, it's Goofy and Mickey!"

Kid: "AAAAAAAA!!! Noooooooo!!!! Don't hurt meeeee!!!"

Sadly these phobias will always be with them, unless they seek psychiatric help. I wonder, do they unconciously shudder at Saturday morning cartoons?

What they need is to confront their fear, surelly some kind of shock could remove that phobia. Capture the subject, gather a dozen talking animals and have all of them hug him/her at once and (hopefuly) back to sanity.

Thanks for posting that.

The amazing thing about this group is that the more they try to convince us how nice they are, the more unpleasant they appear.

I think that is a side-effect of both thier obvious insecurities (and SA Goons are poster children for insecurities), and thier obvious lack of compassion/understanding.
