Teens Coming to Version of Second Life

In a couple of weeks, we're planning to welcome teens, aged 13-17, into a new version of Second Life. It will be a separate grid, with no visibility or access either to or from the current Second Life world.
I know you'll have lots of questions about this news, so we're planning a Town Hall meeting next week to talk about it. Keep an eye on the Event Calendar for details about the Town Hall meeting

My concerns are... it may encourage them to find ways to sneak onto the other side... since LL really has no way of telling how old anyone is behind the PC.

Considering how childish some of the 'adults' in SL can be, I think maybe having some actual teens around could be refreshing.

They seem to be smart enough to get more money out of their customers compared to any other game ever...I'd be willing to bet they have it covered....the problem will be in that grid when the first lil genious makes the first sex ball. |

If they are truly on a separate grid, with NO interaction with the current grid, have at it.
It will be interesting to see how TeenTown plays out and how they keep the teens out of the Adult areas.

Well, if they can't come into our grid, that's fine. I *would* kinda like to be able to go to theirs, though Just in case I get fed up with our SL, I can go see how bad it *could* be.

All I can say is that they better lock that grid tighter than a Wolverines A*s!!! Otherwise sooner or later Chaos will insue in many ways...... One of the reasons I left TSO was because of there being too many dam 13 year olds playing the game.......
I'm an adult, an I prefer adult company an discourse..... But if the grid is locked so they CANNOT get in to out SL, then by all means welcome, welcome to the magic carpet ride....... I have one request from the Lindons though.......
Please, oh please can you create some Drive in theators who's screen is an actual window into their grid so we could be all entertaind by what goes on in there...... I'd be there with my popcorn thats for sure... Hehehe.......

I can see 1st Second Lifers providing a lot of content for the 2nd Second Lifers, if such down-hopping is allowed. If theose 13 to 17 year olds have to fend for themselves... I wonder what the world would look like.
As a separate grid, I imagine it will have its own money like Preview grids do. If so, it should be named differently... As should the whole game, really. Call it "Second Childhood" (no, not really!) and let them spend "RadCash" (again, NO, not really) to keep EVERYTHING separate.
Zeppi could start a new GOM classification for them which would let 1st Second Lifers to take some of their money in with them (asuming accounts are mirrored there, just sans cash and inventory) to help build a place for these young'uns.
Or maybe... Maybe there would BE no money, no ECONOMY in this new world. Thinking about what I said above just leads me to imagine kids being grifted out of RL cash. Either us old folks would have to be kept out (a difficult if not impossible task) or money has to go bye-bye. A pure barter economy, if any at all.

San Francisco, CA - October 28, 2004 – Linden Lab®, creator of the acclaimed 3D digital world, Second Life®, announced today it has closed a financing round of $8,000,000 led by Benchmark Capital and with participation from Omidyar Network, a new organization led by eBay founder, Pierre Omidyar. Existing investors including software pioneer Mitch Kapor also participated in the round.
