i am talking about missle defense. i am not whining or complaining. i am arguing why CANADA does not need missile defense. (btw - i'm talking about, Canada. that is the country that is not under terrorist threat). as an ally canada should help america hunt down terrorists and countries that support them. not build laser beams to fight imminent nuclear bombs and alien invasions.

i believe canada should have a stronger conventional military and special forces. they are important to protect the sovereignty of our waters, and also in unforeseeable possibilties where we are called help our allies in their defense (ex: ww2, afghanistan, etc).

missile defense does not figure into canadian security interests. next you will ask me to pay your fire insurance. isn't supporting the fire department enough?

I didn't say that, in fact I agree with you on your historical perspective. That being said, A missile shield is not the magic bullet we all hope for. Fill your boots however, nothing is stopping the US from arming itself. We certainly do not discourage it.

The Americans have missiles to prevent attacks on Americans. That is your priority based on your global agenda. Canada has no such agenda, and while you view it as vulnernable, we view it as unnecessary. That is the fundamental difference between us.

Taiwan Relations Act

United States Code Title 22 Chapter 48 Sections 3301 - 3316

Enacted 10 April 1979


Sec. 3302. Implementation of United States policy with regard to Taiwan
(a) Defense articles and services
In furtherance of the policy set forth in section 3301 of this title, the United States will make available to Taiwan such defense articles and defense services in such quantity as may be necessary to enable Taiwan to maintain a sufficient self-defense capability.

(b) Determination of Taiwan's defense needs
The President and the Congress shall determine the nature and quantity of such defense articles and services based solely upon their judgment of the needs of Taiwan, in accordance with procedures established by law. Such determination of Taiwan's defense needs shall include review by United States military authorities in connection with recommendations to the President and the Congress.

(c) United States response to threats to Taiwan or dangers to United States interests
The President is directed to inform the Congress promptly of any threat to the security or the social or economic system of the people on Taiwan and any danger to the interests of the United States arising therefrom. The President and the Congress shall determine, in accordance with constitutional processes, appropriate action by the United States in response to any such danger.

In other words, Taiwan is an ally of the United States and if they are attacked, the United States will fight the attacker. That is why war with China is always a very real threat.

China's biggest problem is that it doesn't have enough land to grow enough food to feed its 1.3/billion people. Because of this, war with the US would cut off US food shipments to China and millions would die off the bat. Unless China attacked S.E. Asia for its ariable land.

China's Navy is worthless, so any such war would most likely be in China. Since Japan is an ally of the US, it most likely would be drawn into the conflict and used as a staging area for the war in China.

None of this is factual, but its a pretty good theory that I'm sure US Military planners have drafted up a doctrine on possible war against China.

For those who don't realize it, the Military doesn't sit around like the fire department waiting for threats to appear. They draft up theoretical battle plans against possible enemies. Friend or Foe. So if hostilites break out, the US just pulls out the pre-planned battle plan. Such a plan details not only combat unit placements, but logistical supply chains and management of resources. Because Warfare is much more than somebody with a gun taking out the enemy. Often, the winners of a war are those who have the best logistical support network. The North Defeated the Confederacy not just by battles, but being able to supply its field armies with new troops, guns, cannons, etc.. The South didn't have the infrastructure to match The North. It was just a matter of time.

China is a threat alright. Try telling Bush that...pfft. He has his head so far up China's ass, being America's largest creditor.

Why is Bush not spouting off his rhetoric about China. Did WALMART have a stake in his campaign or what? That country is run by brutal dictators, Communist ones at that.

There is virtually no human rights in that country, they have no freedoms which we enjoy. Prisoners are farmed and executed for their organs, wages amount to a bowl of rice and a bed in many cases.

A war with China would be ugly.

Like many other wars in the past, it will be equipped by the Americans. America equipped Osama Bin Laden, Contras, Augusto Pinochet, Manuel Noriega and yes, Saddam Hussein.

To show a full story, realize Russia is the one that provided MiGs to China, North Korea, Iraq, and RPGs and AK-47s to just about every third world country.

French mid-range missiles were found in Iraq.

Chinese nuclear secrets were found in Pakistan and Iran and North Korea.

But, ah... would be nice if people found ways other than violence to solve problems
