I would just like to point out that calling people dense, uneducated, or one of the myriad of other attacks upon people's intelligence I have seen the Dynamik Duo make in the past few days constitute logical fallacies. The duo is quite quick to point out other people's logical fallacies, yet commit the ad hominem fallacy (among others) frequently themselves. Shocker.

Of course, now I may be accused of making the Tu Quoque fallacy. Quite intriguing how those fallacies can be used so cleverly by those who like to wield them as weapons constantly, isn't it?

Using Your Knowledge

In your day-to-day life you will encounter many examples of fallacious reasoning. And it's fun - and sometimes even useful - to point to an argument and say, "A ha! That argument commits the fallacy of false dilemma."

It may be fun, but it is not very useful. Nor is it very enlightened.

The names of the fallacies are for identification purposes only. They are not supposed to be flung around like argumentative broadswords. It is not sufficient to state that an opponent has committed such-and-such a fallacy. And it is not very polite.

This Guide is intended to help you in your own thinking, not to help you demolish someone else's argument. When you are establishing your own ideas and beliefs, evaluate them in the light of the fallacies described here.

When evaluating the ideas and arguments proposed to you by others, keep in mind that you need to prove that the others' reasoning is fallacious. That is why there is a 'proof' section in the description of each fallacy. The 'proof' section is intended to give you a mechanism for showing that the reasoning is flawed. Apply the methodology described in the 'proof' section to the passage in question. Construct your own argument. Use this argument - not the name of the fallacy - to respond.

I have been with the project since about day 10. That is well over a year, and I have never seen Ulrika step down before. So I'm not sure why you would say "again"?

I guess that could work and I could see why it would be elitist before the internet to point out logical fallacies. But there are search engines now. I don't think it is elitist to point out certain logical fallacies if they are really committed. They shouldn't be relied upon as the basis of an argument, but there's nothing wrong with pointing out that someone is missing the issue. *(And aren't you relying upon pointing out logical fallacy as the basis of your argument when you say Ulrika is using logical fallacy and therefore can't point out logical fallacy?)

By the way, why are you quoting datanation like it's a bible passage? Does the person who wrote that really deserve jurisdiction over your thoughts?

? I read an thread to that effect back when she announced her pregancy. Obviously I missed the thread indicating otherwise.

She had to step back on a lot of the things she had been doing for the project. And most of her work was going to involve her not being in-world doing things. That is a lot different than her actually resigning her government position AND her citizenship.

I have never left nor publicly stated I would leave the project until today. Now that I'm gone maybe they'll finally sell that sim out.
