Constant Crashing! Any SUggestionsn Please.

Same exact issues here even after driver updates and everything else possible. I don't even get past the log in..it just gives me that silly monotonous message saying >" Unable to connect to Second Life. the system may be down. Please try again in a few minutes or click Help for advice" << click help?..it doesnt work at all...and try in a few minutes?.I've been trying for the past 48 hours. ..and an email to support only got me 2 blank replies.

Orchid, thats a completly different problem, it has nothing to do with your video card, that is a network issue. I suggest you start a new thread for your issue since this one is for people crashing.

The thing that really makes me sick is that with all these crashing posts going on in various forums.. I don't think I've once seen an official posting by a member of the Linden staff with any words of wisdem or just to let people know that maybe something is being investigated or worked on. I mean how hard could that be.

I've tried old drivers, new drivers, beta drivers.. I've even wiped my entire computer and started from scratch with WinXp, drivers that came with my pc, loaded all the windows updates, quicktime 7 and then second life and it still does it.

And forgive me for being a little synical that dissabling one's firewall will have ANY difference with this... or checking that the PC is running to speed.... I'm afraid after over 20 years working in the IT hardware support and development environment I can say categorically that the problem lies in the realm of either driver incompatibility or simply application bug (memory overrun or whatever with the new graphics functionality)... as with everyone else here I had simply no problems with the previous versions or the preview grid. My system is top notch.. not overclocked or stressed in any way.

I pay hundreds of dollars a month to use second life... and for that I do expect a little hardware or software support and testing from them.

I really am at the end of my teather here.

Here we are 24 hours later, and still the same problem - with NO word from the Lindens that it's even being looked at.

I tried switching to sun/moon only, no go.

I tried rolling back my drivers, no go.

I tried standing on one foot with a piece of tinfoil in my right hand and an old coathanger in the other, no go.

Short of sacrificing live chickens under the next full moon, I'm out of ideas.

I too pay hundreds of dollars every month to LL. I currently have an island that I can't do SQUAT with because I crash every few minutes. Flexible prims my ass, give us a stable grid and THEN I'll be impressed.

So once again, in the futile hope that somewhere, some how, some Linden is actually READING this thread, here are my specs ...

Intel Pentium M 2.26 GHz
NVidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX
2 gigs RAM

I can log into game just fine. I just can't STAY there. It hard crashes randomly - I might be in edit, I might be walking along, I might be sitting perfectly still, it appears to be completely random. Sometimes I go for up to 2 hours without a crash. Other times I crash every 2-3 minutes over and over and over and over and well, you get the picture.

Crash Logger goes off each and every time, and by God, I submit them all - if I'm going to crash, I'm also going to at least fill up some queue somewhere that evidently nobody even reads.

How Hard Is Saying A Word About This Issues There Is A Lot People Have Same Problems!!!!

Hi everyone--just wanted to post in here and let you know you're not being ignored. Crashing is damn frustrating; it's happened to me too!

I don't know if all the crashes reported here are because of the same cause, but it's good to see you discuss things amongst yourselves.

Please, do continue to send in crash reports. And those of you who aren't, if you don't get the Crash Reporter box upon crashing, turn it on in EDIT menu > PREFERENCES > GENERAL > CRASH REPORTS should be "Always Send".

I am going to let our Lindens in Quality Assurance know about this thread to check what else we know.

We do care very much and endeavor to understand this better so we can help you--it's not the first time something like this has happened!

I originally posted my reply next to yours before realising yours was in a mac forum - so i thought it might be a seperate issue.

No matter what I do - the more buffer space i give SL the longer it lasts ( I am now testing in a controlled environment where I know exactly how many objects etc are around me )

And consistantly it crashes when more data is being sent ( a rotated prim or a new texture ).

It hits a certain threshold them -bamm - hang.

And as i mentioned in my earlier post (as did you ) changing the throttle speed for the network connection has no effect what-so-ever.

Having the same crash issue. Except the screen goes completely black after about 5 to 10 seconds and then the entire computer begins to alternately freeze and then release.

Never happened before yesterdays update, all Video Drivers are updated.

i finally got a reply from Data linden after pestering Live Help..........a LOT. he checked my crash reports and said it looked like a conflict with my chipset drivers, and the graphic drivers and data sent by SL. I've got the latest chipset drivers etc. for my motherboard and instlled that. not tired it yet but hought i'd share the info with you all ASAP.

Update: we are actively looking at crash reports to determine what's going on.

It's also GREAT (and I can't understate this) how many of you already said you updated your graphics card drivers. Please be sure to do this if you haven't already! In some cases since yesterday, there've been Resis who tried just about everything *else* possible they could think of, but didn't update their drivers--and doing so fixed it. So don't overlook this... if you already have updated, *fantastic*. It'll help narrow down what's happening.

Vektor Linden also reminded me to say: use the latest stable graphics card drivers, *not* betas still in production (e.g. nVidia Forceware 91.28 *betas*--do not use these because they are not good to go) should be downloaded.

My comp is an e mach. T6420, Nvidia gforce 6100 Intergrated,and i have spent over 12 hours trying to fix this .. and im at my wits end.. I have done every thing short of formatting!!PLEASE HELP! (yes i have installed the newest drivers, done 2 restores, uninstalled the old sl version and reinstalled the newest, tried different driver updates!!!!)GAH! im sick of it.... my SL rocked b4 the UPDATE, what else can i do??

8 Minutes that's along time, I've only made up too about 2 minutes tops. I'm also having some trouble walking and talking. I've had the crash problem everytime I logged in today have to say about maybe 5 or 6 times. I managed to reset my preferences but didn't do a thing for me.

I am so jealous..come fix mine for me..please!!!!=( we were matched at 12 hours.. now im at 18 PLEASE ..have mercy .. come help me!

Yea the update makes my laptop crash. Before the update the picture was better than on my desktop computers. I am not going to panic though cause SL usually fixes this stuff.

I disabled most of graphics features with no success.
Yea I installed latest drivers. My desktops still work ok.

augh...almost 48 hours later and im still crashing...My sim in Anilis doesnt crash me for some reason i can stay there for hours but as soon as i leave it i die..lol so if anyone wants to come test it out feel free to come say hi..lol, im bored as heck.

Hi. I started this thread. My problem with crashing is as bad as any of those reported here. I also have tried everything under the sun. BUT!!!!! this afternoon for some unexplained reason I was able to play for nearly 3 hours with only 3 o 4 crashes. I thought that for sure the good old boys/girls at Linden Labs had done their homework and discovered the flaw in their programming and hot fixxed it.. But alas this was only a pipedream cuz tonight my problem is as bad,if not worse than ever. i crash out of EVERY session. I am now typically crashing upon rezzing and a couple of times have lasted as long as a minute or so.

SO! This must say something about our problem. It says to me that the problem clearly is not on our side of things. If it were, how was I able to play almost noemally for 3 hours this afternoon?.

SO! Now we have discovered what we already knew all along.. It ain't me its server side.

i tried several thing and nothing changed but i was in sl for10 minute at a time, 22min at another time i belive you are right cause is not our computers fault is from sl

But then again there are a nunber of people at are having no problems at all.

Crashing here also. Had the very latest drivers already.
Yesterday i could go only a few minutes without crashing. Today i tried a system restore and a fresh SL install and the crashes are probably even more frequent now- every few seconds. I also went to the Preview grid and it did not crash me even though it seems to be the same version number (although i didnt stay very long on preview to test it). For me the crashes happen most when selecting objects and when downloading.

My main PC crashes but my older one don't. Both use the beta geforce drivers but are different card models. the 5200 is ok but the 6200 isnt. I don't know if its card related or if its just a windows glitch or what... Il try re installing.

After having checked all of the usuall suspects I am sorry to report that my crashing now is worse than ever. I now crash almost immediately upon entering The World. Before 1.10 my system handled all that SL had to offer very well. Now, thanks to some unintended quirk in 1.10 I am unable to play at all.

I have had four telephone sessions with SL Tech Support and have an open email ticket remaining in which I have received the initial "do a clean re-install " advice.

So far I have:

1) Installed the latest manufacturer drives for my hardware.

2) Reset my firewall to allow maximum permissions to SL 1.10.

3) Totally disabled my anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spyware during
attempte to play.

4) Uninstalled all prior versions of SL including the preview 1.10
version.

5) Manually deleted all file entries and registry entries of SL that had
not been removed by the uninstall program,.

6) With anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spyware disabled, re-downloaded
and reinstalled SL 1.1.0

7) Reduced all performance settings to the bare minimum, significantlyu below those
that I had used sucessfully with SL 1.09

Rolled back my video card drivers to the earlier version.

7) Redownloaded and reistalled the latest video drivers.

Reinstalled SL and all my drivers and tried to play SL and all my drivers with my anti-virus. spyware, and firewall completly uninstalled.

Tried to play the game with my charater wearing no accessory
attachments.

9) Cussed. cried and pounded my head on my desk.

I have reluctantly concluded that the problem must be my Nvidia 7800 GT, an otherwise terrific card, that by some quirk in 1.10 has apparently been remdered useless for SL. A few other players posting here about the crash issue report to also be using ther 7800

So here's my score:

I own a subsatntial amount of land in SL and I am currently paying LL $300 a month to play (or not play). Do I now go out and spend 300+ for another video card because someone somewjere at LL screwed up? Where do you draw the line?

Yeah my video card isn't upto specs, I know that but then again 1.9 was never a problem. But what is really interesting is that sometimes 1.10 isn't a problem. I ran 1.10 yesterday for 5 hours straight with no problems. For about 2 hours last night I would drop out somewhere between 1 or 2 mis to 15 mins. Late last night I played for 2 hours straight. This morning I'm lucky if I hit 2 mins.

So it does seem kinda logical that there is a buffer/cache overun prob or something similar. It does seem to be in certain areas at times. I don't know more.

But I also agree with one important thing posted frequently here. This is a wonderful game but it ain't like any other. This isn't a Fable or some such that we buy one tiime. This is an incredibly expensive game that we have sunk ALOT of money into. Most of us are not rich. We can't go out and buy a new computer just because SL wants to make a cpl changes. Sure seems from buisiness standpoint and to get it up to half a million customers they would make it so that most systems can run it. Why in the heck make the game so that only $4,000 computers can run it and only have 100,000 customers. Seems kinda ignorant.

i had a similar experience. Yesterday morning I was crashing upon entry as usual . But later in the afternoon I was able to play for around 3-4 hours with only a few crashes. But last night the crashing problem returned and this morning it's worse than it has ever been for me. I am currently crashing the second I enter the world.
