Hello:
I currently can not play the game because of consistent and frequent program crashes since today's update.
I typically am in the game from anywhere between 5 seconds and 2 minutes when the game crashes.
I have the latest drivers for my hardware installed. I have an excellent top-of-the-line, high-speed cable connection that is working fine. I rarely crashed in the prior version of SL.
This all started today: first this morning on the preview server and then again this afternoon on the regular servers after the update.
I have had four talks with tech support by phone and after each tried something new. So far I have: reset and then disabled my firewall and anti-virus programs and uninstalled all traces of prior and preview versions and then reinstalled the program. None of this has done anythnig. I still crash shortly after logging in.
Windows XP SP2 Velocity Micro Gamer's Edge Nvidia 7800 GT AMD Dual Core 3800+ 1 Gig Ram
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Same, I've updated my video drivers, reinstalled from nothing, turned off every feature I can think of . . . Well, on the plus side, I no longer feel like i'm alone. Now we can all be ignored together

Dell XPS M170 NVidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX (updated fresh today) Intel Pentium M 2.26 GHz 2 gig RAM
Handled SL beautifully until the update today - now I can go anywhere from 1 minute to 2 hours before a hard crash, complete with crash logger going off.
PLEASE tell us a fix is coming soon!

Stuck in First Life
05-24-2006 19:38
Same problems here. I either lock up during login (right around the time it says downloading clothes, computer completely locks up and doesn't respond) or directly afterward (avatar shows up, I get about three or four lines of chat and then everything locks up). I've updated all my drivers, disabled Firewall and AV software, turned off everything in the background, etc. I was able to run the previous version great, and now I can't even get in for longer than a second or two.
I know you guys are working on all this and I understand how hectic it is directly after the update, I'm just at the end of my rope with frustration here and felt the need to piss and moan about it somewhere official.
Gratuitous system specs: AMD Athlon64 3200+ ASUS SLI-Premium ATI FireGL v7100 Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS 1024 MB Corsair 1024XLPT
Thanks. I hope this gets resolved in the near future.

Just a tip. Friend of mine was on for hours and started crashing and now sounds like you guys. Try switching LIGHTING DETAIL to 'sun and moon only'

Okay well technically I *don't* know that they're working on this, but I am being positive and giving them the benefit of the doubt. I don't see how getting angry and yelling at them would get anything accomplished other than being ignored. So I hopped on here and gave a little brief on my situation and just hope hope hope a resolution is issued. I'm pulling my hair out over here and am becoming convinced that I've done just about as much as I can on this side without just going out and buying new hardware (my graphics card is a graphics workstation because my pc is also- you guessed it- a graphics workstation). I was able to run the old version with only minor hiccups and the longest I've been able to get the new one to run was about four seconds (and I was pretty proud of that). So.... *sigh*
I can't even log on long enough to notice a difference. I want the old version back...
Okay done whining now. Carry on.

Regarding supposed "Upgrades"
05-24-2006 21:04
Every time SL "upgrades" I spend a month trying to get things working as well as they had prior to it. I wish Linden Lab would take into consideration that most folks out there can't drop several hundred dollars on upgrades or buy a new computer every couple months to keep up with the game. So how about it Lindens? Can't you backwards engineer some of the programming or make it optional so the folks who can can play with the upgrades and the rest of us can keep using the game as well?

I like to call these "Down grades" We seem to like to make peoples computers obsolete in the name of a new lighting feature or a nice pretty water texture. The good thing is they don't have to worry about people leaving over the L$ becoming worthless....they are doing a quicker job of doing it by making our computers worthless
