WTF? I quoted a comment of yours about a notecard to make a joke/observation originally. Why in the fuck do you think it's (a) about you, and (b) backpedalling?

You do understand how forums and threaded discussions work, right?

Here's the order of events as I saw them (pardon use of logic):
1) I suggested scripters could hand out notecards if they wanted.
2) You make an off color remark quoting me specifically
3) I pretty much ask what was that for
4) You say that you say this to anyone making demands
5) I say I wasnt making demands
6) You say you werent talking to me

Make sense?

Hiro: Ok. :)

land scanners & any unwanted objects
03-14-2005 12:06
I have read through almost all of the posts here and one thing that sticks in my head is that Linden say they will be happy to remove them from their land. Now, why is it we can not, as paying land tier customers have them removed or have them banned from our land? I believe that as probably most of us pay rl money in land tier fees that we should have the option to keep unwanted objects off of our land no matter how high in the sky it is. Linden says they have litle effect on sim resources, but the fact is they do have some kind effect on something WE pay for. I have watched these things fly by. Im sure Pete didnt mean any harm when creating them and to have 1 flying by is not a problem but when I go up and look at them there are at least 20 within 1 minutes time. All of which we have not given permission to be there.

Since we cannot catch these things, and frankly I dont want to spend my time trying, can those people who have these in Abitibi please remove them.

I like eltee's idea. Maybe we should make it a public script and release it here. Just put it in your sim and start IMing the owner of any scripting objects in your land, and send them a notecard (or 10). The only problem with that is you then get into a situation where you're making a virus to defeat a virus.
-Flip

I believe to be considered a virus it would have to be more random. If anyone or their script enters my lot and doesn't like or appreciate my "greeting" and re-greeting them the solution for them is that they leave. Hell, include that in the notecard. I'm not a programmer but couldn't you set this for objects above a certain height so people at low levels don't have to get the card?

But I don't think it will ever come to this. Ask in the hotline forum, the Lindens will agree it's against TOS and a precedence will be set against these things. Then the bannings can begin!

My concern here, Aimee, is that the Lindens have shown that they can say one thing and not act frequently. They'll post that this is a bad and evil thing to do but when it comes time to actually put the hammer down, they'll come up short. I hope they prove me wrong but I've seen it time and time again in my short stint here.

It was posted earlier today, by Judah I think, scanning the grid en-mass would require some forewarning, an explaination of the exercise and welcome any critcisms or questions beforehand. That would show respect for the community at large. Much better for SL than a "just because I can" attitude, which is largely self serving at everyones expense.

So where are you getting your information?

How is it you are detecting parcels that go public so fast?

Very suspicious indeed.

Oh, yeah, update from LL:

Dear Hiro Pendragon,

We've had some of our staff looking into the "scan bots" situation,
and will take the appropriate actions.

As usual, Linden Lab will not disclose the resolution of
abuse/community standards violations with Second Life residents,
except when necessary to introduce a new/amended policy. Linden Lab
will not disclose incident details including (but not limited to):
identity of the reporter, details of chat logs, resolution of
incidents, suspensions/banning of Second Life residents. This includes
the script content of resident's objects -- we can't reveal what we
learn about the scripts.

If you have any further questions, please send them to
support@lindenlab.com

Best wishes,

-Linden Lab and the Second Life Community team

Invisible objects appearings on the property
03-17-2005 19:31
From: Hiro Pendragon

Also... I did find a "lb v3" on a parcel next to the creator's parcel.

I found a green object named that last week laying against My castle wall. It was at the time I began noticing that when checking About Land, to see how many Prims I had available, there has been appearing objects owned by others. Sometime the # of objects being as high as 53 one morning. I just return the objects and constanly check the prims.

if someone puts a scripted object like that on your land, that you don't understand you should return it... if they put it back again, you may wish to file an abuse report, thats someone taking advantage of your own land to do their dirty work. You can try talking to them about it but i've found generally people get very defensive abuot malicious or selfishly coded objects when confronted

Sporks is good. <3 versatile stabbing implements!

Now if everyone could form a queue just here...

*hands out sporks*

*hands out banners calling for llGiveInventory to be banned*

OK. Please queue on the left if you want to continue to harangue Pete and his scripting evolness.

Queue on the right if you just want to take the high road about poor taste and incitement while we should all be trying to hold hands and heal the forums.

Thanks.
