From: Jauani Wu people who want oppurtunities usually go looking for them. oppurtunies are earned. they are made. they are rarely handed to people, because when they are handed out, they are squandered. Look at it this way, Jauani. I squawked for opportunities. I got them. The end. coco

From: Cocoanut Koala My apologies for being polite, Jillian! coco So, you didn't miss my point, you just didn't address it becasue you were being polite? I'm sorry, but that makes little sense, so I have to assume I don't understand. Why are you apologising for being polite?

From: Cocoanut Koala And in any case, it's a moot point, because most of my concerns about equal opportunity have been addressed. As I said in my first post. coco Well thank goodness this is over then. This thread is now about the time Toast burned the pot roast and I yelled at her and she started crying and we went to bed angry with each other.

From: Yumi Murakami No, the problem is not that.
The problem is that as long as lucky or powerful people are giving out gifts at all, those who do not recieve them will be disadvantaged. Wait.. When did "successful" become "lucky" and/or "powerful"?

From: Torley Torgeson One thing if I may please: it's Bedazzle, not Bedazzled. Yeah, no 'D", and a minimum font size of 6 from now on. I could see changing the banner picture up at the top of the forums in the spirit of equal opportunity.

From: Cocoanut Koala As I am. And as every writer knows, the hardest thing is writing LESS, not more. What you get here is not my professional writing, that which would be required to say more with fewer words. Cause, you know, I'm not getting paid for this. Then again, there are just some people who are better at getting to the meat of things, writer or not. My husband is one of those. Forseti is another.
i'm not getting paid to decipher your cryptic gibberish either though. your husband has no choice. he vowed to put up with your gibberish when he said "i do". foresti's post was not a revelation. everyone understands you think everyone's name should be in the hat. you don't seem to understand that not everyone doesn't suck. putting the names of sucks in the hat might be fine if this was not inconsequential. putting the names of sucks in the hat given to potential investors in the SL platform is bad business: "oh would you like to use our platform? here's a list of suckers you can hire!" this would be recieved as: "our platform sucks, our community of residents artists and scripters suck. you are wasting your money by exploring business oppurtunities using this platform."

Thank God, I wasn't going to waste any time with this thread, but now you've made it infinitely more interesting. Arguing about burnt pot roast is silly, and while people do occasionally get worked up and yell about things, I hope you realised that it was pointless to get all bent out of shape and blow things out of proportion over such a small piece of your life. I hope you kids got it worked out, and made out in the morning. I mean UP, made "up"! Not that I'm prompting you to post a picture or anything... Seriously, I just am curious about where the story goes from here. Once again, not implying that you should or are now expected to post explicit images of the conflict, climax, and resolution... Just saying, it would give the story a bit more of a "happy ending".

From: Enabran Templar I get a really sad "Harrison Bergeron" vibe off of you. Harrison Bergeron was about repressing a difference that already existed naturally. That is not the same as easing the distribution of artificial advantages. Some people are going to be better at the building skills of SL - prim pushing, texturing, scripting - than others. That's inevitable, and we can't help that, other than by trying to provide support for people who want to get better. No new player arrives in SL having been handed a plot of completely free land to build on. If people get that, it's through an external decision made by somebody else. It's by no means natural or something that can't be affected. Suppose you run a RL business, and the government decide that one of your competitors will pay half the tax you do, even though you both make the same amount of money and you are both in the same government authority. Would you accept the argument that making the tax equal would be the same in moral/societal terms as preventing you from taking advantage of your business acumen?

From: Weedy Herbst Says you. Pat yourself on the back. Bake some hero cookies. Buy some tickets for your next ego trip. Says me, yes, That is how it is for me. I wasn't the only one squawking for it. But the Lindens listened, and the Lindens instituted some things to address the problem. Or - those things were already there, as Cristiano pointed out, and I just made the mistake of just now noticing them. In either case, I'm happy about it. However, there may still be some things that could be improved. So far, I've heard one suggestion of such a thing in this whole thread. It happens to be the only other thing I had in mind, myself. coco

Would you accept the argument that making the tax equal would be the same in moral/societal terms as preventing you from taking advantage of your business acumen? That's, uh, not even remotely related to this situation. The situation is thus: Some people are great at promoting themselves. Others are not. Those others expect the same opportunities as those who are great at promoting themselves. Yet, they don't want to put in the work necessary to make that happen. Solution? Make the Lindens give it to me!

I don't appreciate it if you are, because I really do have a damn hard time with understanding things of this sort. And every time I try to engage you, you make some statement like that, and if I don't understand it right off, you keep dancing around it. If you're just being deliberately cruel, I'd appreciate you admitting it so I can move on. Otherwise I would very much appreciate your helping me understand why it was you were apologizing for being polite, because I really don't have a clue here.

No. They are ALREADY filtering out the suckers by virtue of the fact that you have to be ACCEPTED into the Directory. That is reasonable. That we all have equal opportunity to submit to the directory, and thus have a chance to be considered for opportunities we have no way of knowing about, is also desirable and reasonable. "Gibberish?" Can people not have a conversation on these forums without stooping to continual insults, reaching yea even unto my husband? coco
