I get Mtl files every time I export a sculpt, be it a sphere or a horn, is this suppose to happen?

So I've been using your excellent converter for a while now without any problems, but I seem to have hit my first snag. I have a 33x33 plane object that converts perfectly after export, but when I reflect it off of the x-axis, the exported .obj file crashes the converter. I have converted reflected planes several times before, and can't figure out what's so different about this one.
I've tried modifying/smoothing it, but it still crashes ![]() Is there maybe a way to reflect it using the sculptmap in photoshop? _____________________

Jimmy, did you use the Divide button unger Geometry? I've noticed that SubMaster uses the highest division level when mirroring an object, and Sculpty Maker seems to crash on objects with many polys. Try going back to lowest subdivision level, then deleting the higher ones, and then mirroring with SubMaster. Save that and use Sculpty Maker.

I make the sculpties by initializing a plane at 9x9, and dividing it twice while adding details in the process. All of my final plane meshes in Zbrush are 33x33, so if I divide them anymore, I'll lose detail.
Also, I just had the same problem with another group of 4 meshes (2 meshes and their reflections). It crashed when I tried to convert them as a group, but worked when I tried converting each one seperately. However, I still haven't been able to convert the sculpty I was originally having trouble with. I've tried both converting it by itself and in a group, and it crashes in both instances. I've been trying to think of something that I did differently with this last couple of planes, and I think the only thing is that I've started using the smooth deformation a lot. It seems that it shouldn't mess anything up though. _____________________

I get Mtl files every time I export a sculpt, be it a sphere or a horn, is this suppose to happen? ZBrush produces the .mtl file and not Sculpty Maker. I've not had time to test, but you may be able to prevent this by disabling the Txr switch in ZBrush's Export panel. Or you can use ZSculpty: /8/a9/266269/1.html |

I've had quite a few IM's asking for Sculpty Rezzer. I've updated the initial post in this thread with the Sculpty Rezzer scripts.
I'm trying to take a back seat with Sculpty Maker etc. To be honest I was very reluctant to release Sculpty Maker because of the inevitable tech support that comes with releasing a program into the public domain. Also, you get IMs like this: [20:38] Sweety: I would have enjoyed learning the sculpty maker, But you make it hard, first you advertise everyone to death, Second: you dont show a down load of the sculpty program tho you do show many other kids of downloads, like are you dumb? Are You 2K? [20:40] Sweety: Three: you want people to join and sign in to your web sight,,,,I guess you didnt get the Im, Selfish jerk [20:42] Sweety: Id personally like people like you off the web all together. Your just another common thug ripping ppl off as you try to trick them into believeing you were trying to help, Ill bet you got a job taking advantage of disaster victums. Just thought Id put back to you what your doing to others, making them feel bad Hilarious and yet frustrating at the same time. But let this be a warning to anybody thinking of releasing a free program. Expect some very demanding IMs from people that think you have an obligation to rent webspace to publish your free program to the world or think that you have some kind of hidden agenda. |

Good lord! Well, just for the record, I cannot believe the level of help you've given me with getting my sculpts imported--and most of those issues were user error on my part. I wouldn't be able to do animated sculpts half so well without the ability to scale them that your program offers. And that says nothing about the ease and convenience of the exporter.
I understand your fatigue, and completely understand your need to take a "back seat". But for what it is worth, trust me, there are many of us out here who want to make a (sculpted) shire to you! _____________________

Geez. That's what I call a "Self Earth-Rotation Axle Syndrome": they think the entire planet needs them just for their existance, and as such everybody has the obligation of doing everything they want exactly how and when they want it with getting nothing in return.
Tell them to go build their own tools, because you didn't force anybody to use yours. Or be less polite, I would. |

Sorry that you're taking heat from these jerks just because you are sharing you hard work and knowledge. I'm thankful for your tools every day! It is such a delight to be able to sculpt in zBrush then hit that shiny little button and have a sculptmap all ready to go. I will volunteer to host all of your files and even take IMs and questions from people if you like. I can put up a page on my Shiny Life site just for SculptyMaker, et al. I've also been contemplating a more specific SculptyMaker tutorial since I tend to answer the same sort of questions about my tutorials many times a week. _____________________

![]() I'll get to work on a Sculpty Maker page. I think I can put up a small area on my parcel to host the Rezzer as well. I'll let you know when everything is ready to go. _____________________

![]() No, but I didn't want to take credit for it either! ![]() That's why when I released ZSculpty I tried to give credit to a little man that lives in a little tree. But you guys weren't falling for it.. You're a sharp bunch!! I'll get to work on a Sculpty Maker page. I think I can put up a small area on my parcel to host the Rezzer as well. I'll let you know when everything is ready to go. Cheers! |

Hi! I hope you have it in you to answer one more question! I've been using sculpty maker successfully for a few weeks, but I just now tried out Sculpty rezzer, and all I got was a cube for each sculpt map rezzed, but no sculpt map applied. So a bunch of cubes rezzed. Gonna do it the old fashioned way, but if anyone knows why this is happening, let me know! Thanks
![]() ps. love sculpty maker! Love it! _____________________

Siddean: Did you get a functioning Sculpty Rezzer in world, or did you assemble one from the scripts that were posted?
There are 2 scripts and 1 object that make up the Rezzer and they have to be assembled correctly. Inside of the main Rezzer object there should be a script called Rezzer, and an object called Section. Inside the Section object should be another script called Section Script. At least that's what mine are called. ![]() If you did put yours together from the posted scripts, make sure that both scripts are running. Sometimes a new script will be turned off by default. Sounds to me like the script in you Section object is not running. Edit the object and choose 'Set Scripts to Running in Selection' from the Tools menu. If that doesn't work, just wait a day or two and I will have Sculpty Rezzer in-world that you can grab. Or just IM me and I will drop one on ya. _____________________

I assembled it from the posted scripts... but I didn't set the scripts to running. I'll give that a try
![]() If it doesn't work, I'll get one off you inworld, thanks Vlad! _____________________

Finally a ZBrush sculpty plugin! I thought this day would never come. Sadly though, it didn't solve my problem ![]() The plugin is very nice though, all my other sculpties work fine. I think I'll just try to make this one from scratch instead of reflecting it from the other one. Edit:I've just had the same problem with two other reflected planes. Maybe there's something wrong with Zbrush? I'll try reinstalling... _____________________

Jimmy: Have you tried mirroring your sculpty in Photoshop? It's a simple process, you basically just flip and/or invert the colors of one of the RGB channels. Here's a link to a forum thread that explains how.

You guys put a smile on my face. That's a great partnership! Looking forward for that page in Shiny Life, I was already watching it for the great tutorials (thanks Vlad!)
Jimmy, allow me to be more specific to flipping in a paint program: Flip the image horizontally, and then select the Red chanel (from the RGB channels) and invert its colors. That's all that's needed, really, it will be perfectly flipped. |

BTW: I've just uploaded a new version with a bug fix. The converter was crashing after hitting the 'Make Sculpty' button for a 2nd time. Yay! I suck at programming. ![]() I think I may have the old one... I mean this is the same issue that I am having right now. I have a beautifull canine furry head that I wanna check out in SL but the SculptyMaker program you have for DL keeps shutting down for no reason when I got th click "Nake Sculpy" ![]() |

Hiya Shannon!,
The latest version is in the initial post of this thread, but if your Sculpty Maker is crashing on the first hit of the 'Make Sculpty' button then the crash is probably caused by something else. Possible causes are: 1. Trying to convert a model that wasn't made in ZBrush 2. Trying to convert a model that's made from millions of polygons. Ideally you should export and convert a low-res version of your model. 3. I suck at programming. |

The Sculpty Maker page on Shiny LIfe is ready and open for business.
![]() http://www.shiny-life.com/sculpty-maker/ I'm still working on a new tutorial and some more documentation, but the basics are there and the downloads are all available. I also have a copy of the Sculpty Rezzer in-world that people can come grab if they don't want to futz around with the scripts. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sunset%20Myst/228/227/601 _____________________

You're very welcome. In SL Wiki there's a page about simple tasks on sculpt maps using paint programs. Many of them are lifesavers.
