Strange, I've never been able to convert objs that were originally created in maya, only objs that have gone from zb to maya and back again, but admitedly that was with an older version than the one that's around at the moment.

I'm a little puzzled as to why you'd bother given the converter qarl wrote being more than adequate for maya.

So you're saying the resulting sculpt map from an oblong tool should automatically pop out oblong as well? (Ex. 16x64 tool exported at a SMres of 64 should pop out as a 32x128 map.) Or does the resizing of the sculpt texture have to be done in Photoshop? Does resizing in Photoshop cause any harm to the sculpties appearance in SL?

I'm using zsculpty 1.02, is that the most recent version?

Thanks for any help anyone can give with these questions:)

Yeah, that's about the size of it.

I need to make an amendment to that list of dimensions, the convertor doesn't allow an 8x128 mesh, but you can fold a 5x256 mesh plane in half and use that instead.

well i have extremely precise sculpts made from polys with sculptymaker.. and not so precise from karls plug in.. may be i don t know how to use, but you don t have many options so what is wrong? : )

make a fresh mesh 32 32 (poly, + uv (normalization off)), move the vertexes where you want them , don t add cut or else just move or fold (or snap them on the object you want to reproduce) then at least center pivot, move the whole in the center of the grid, not too big not too small, freeze transform, export as obj.

open in sculpty maker set 64 resolution save..

done..

for oblongs use other mesh resolutions.

to have them lod resistant, forget each 2nd vertex on the mesh raw to define the basic shape, mean vertex 1 3 5 etc are shape relevant when far from the sculpt, 2 4 6 etc are only to use for detailing..

sculptymaker could be compatible will all obj without major changes i think, it only need to rearange the art the obj is writen. that last effort would be great..

That's brilliant, I'll have to try that if I ever bother using Maya again.

I don't know if this is the right thread, but I'm having a problem with the Sculpty Rezzer. I just put together a simple sphere with the two scripts in it, and it seems to work at first, but then I get a message from SL saying "object is missing from database" and nothing rezzes. How can I fix this? I was really looking forward to using this amazing tool. (There's no problem with the filename length - I checked.)

I have been using zBrush with Sculpty Maker over the last week or two and have largely been having great success!

However, there are some objects that when rezzed will always have a visible gap along the sculpty map seamline. I've tried re-making the maps at different resolutions etc, but it makes no difference. When I view one of the maps as a 2D image, it looks normal (ie. no abnormalities along the edges).

If anyone has any info as to how to fix the problem or at least how to avoid it in future, I would be very appreciative :)

UPDATE: Well, it looks like the Sculpty Rezzer is what is causing the problem. If I apply the map manually, it works fine.

Check the stitching type. Plane usually causes a gap on the seam, you can get away with sphere for most things.

Location of latest Zsculpt?
02-04-2010 11:38
Can someone tell me where to find the latest Zsculpty plugin? I've gone back in these posts and none of the ones I've found can be found on the net.

Thanks in advance.

Symetry Problem

When I initiate mirrored symmetry on either the x or the z axis the brush locations (red dots) are offset way over to the side either of my (currently 2) subtools. Anyone have an explanation and/or a fix for this.

Under the Transform menu at the top, you have to play with clear and set pivot points.

There is a subtools video tutorial by Cannedmushrooms online that shows how to adjust pivot points for subtools. If I can find it I'll edit my post to add it :)

ETA: Found it :) It's about 3 minutes into the video, but the whole video (as well as all of his) are good to watch:
