So this "little man who lives in a tree and sometimes emerges on the SL Forums to answer questions", do you know him at all?

Missing row or wierd seam
06-22-2008 10:56
In 5 years of SL I find the one best thing ever for modelling and I just want to first praise the maker but I'm having a couple of issues.
Love this when it works..but sometimes I am seeing two wierd things happening and wondering if anyone else using this plug in is seeing it. First..I'm using Zbrush 3.1 latest and greatest program version of it. Second.. I have tried it on the initialized 32/33 sphere prim and also on the standard sphere with out initializing to 32/33. On some of them I am seeing this row of missing pixels on the prim when I use the 128 sculpt map and on the 64 I am seen an subtle seam with at the the poles basically of the sphere, I see all the seam sort of overlapping. Any ideas on what this could be, what I might be doing wrong or anyone else experiencing it... Otherwise..if you make it small enough.. you don't really see the seams..but to use for larger items..makes it look very unfinished but having any plug-in at all for Zbrush is great! Thanks for your feedback and also for you work!!! Soren |

Ooh, an old flakey Romulus!
![]() Hi Soren!, I sneaked in an update the other day that some of the early downloaders may have missed. It fixed a problem with exporting textures (not sculptmaps) from ZBrush. So it's quite possible you're suffering from that bug. The latest version of ZSculpty is 1.01. You can find out which version you're using by hitting the 'Flush' button and taking note of the little message that appears at the top left of the ZBrush window. If the latest version doesn't fix your seam issue then you're welcome to make a demo .ztl file and upload it somewhere and I'll take a peek at it. As for the poles, sculpties are notoriously messy in that area. What I sometimes do is to slightly adjust SL's texture repeat or offset to help hide the distortion. |

Thanks 2K!
Crusty aye?..careful..I will wave my prim sculpty cane at ya!!!..Heheheh... That was it..I saw that first post and jumped on that like white on rice.. Works like a dream.. Thanks for a great plug-in..only been waiting on this since somebody say..hey..there will be a plug in and then said..nope..not gonna happen for Zbrush so thank you for proving them wrong!!! Thank you and now I will go get in my wheel chair and roll back into SL.. Soren |

i use the preview to recenter a 32x33 at the next subdivision snaping the crosshair while holding shift onto the vertical center line's.seems to clean up the warping especialy on export of symetrical sculpties.
ps : the flush button scares me lol |

I think I'm being dim, but I extracted the files to the Zplugs folder and restarted Zbrush.
But how do I use the thing? I didn't see anything under zplugin, and loading the zscript didn't seem to do anything, either. _____________________

Aha! Spotted it on the bottom of the tool palette on the right. Now, does it have the same "centre" and "scale" options that SculptyMaker does? I didn't spot them. Or does it automatically line all subtools up with each other?

Or does it automatically line all subtools up with each other? Hey!, ZSculpty doesn't have the animation features of Sculpty Maker. I personally have no plans to animate sculpties and so I just didn't bother carrying those features across to ZSculpty. Yeah, I know, I'm such a selfish pig! ![]() |

Oh, fair enough. It isn't as if Sculpty Maker is difficult to use. So merged items one wishes to animate or put together with Sculpty Rezzer should use Sculpty Maker, correct?
And whilst I'm being gormless, what is this Normal Map function? _____________________

Oh, fair enough. It isn't as if Sculpty Maker is difficult to use. So merged items one wishes to animate or put together with Sculpty Rezzer should use Sculpty Maker, correct? Sculpty Rezzer works with ZSculpty's sculptmaps too. Just use Sculpty Maker for preserving scale across several objects which you intend to use for frames of animation. Or for preserving an offset center. And whilst I'm being gormless, what is this Normal Map function? The normal maps option will create and export normal maps along with the sculptmaps. ZBrush's rendering features are quite weak and so it's very common to take models into other programs for texture baking or rendering. The problem is that other programs can't deal with ZBrush's models because of the shear number of polygons. So instead the details are stored inside normal maps or displacement maps and are then exported along with a low res version of your model. Normal maps are also used in video games too. and I have a sneaky feeling that Qarl and company will add normal maps to Second Life soon. So we'll be ready for 'em!. |

I so hope that is on the horizon! I can occasionally use the SL bumpmaps to good effect, but the mind just goggles at the thought of being able to create our own. We could run up to a million active points in Zbrush, pull out the clay brush and a few cute alphas, then import that spiff texture to SL!

the textures and norms dont show up in the dir on vista for some reason . Oh no. So I'm guessing you've tested it on XP and they do show up?. I was tempted to say it's probably because you've not set your target SDiv level. If your sub tools are at their highest SDiv level then a normal map can't be created because ZBrush doesn't know which lower detail level to create a normal map for. But the textures should export regardless of your Subtool's SDiv level. So yeah, it sounds very fishy. and I don't have Vista so I cannae fix it, Captain. |

havent tested it on xp as yet sculptmaps show in the dir on fista its just the norms and baked texturesthat dont. think it has someting to do with the folder permisions as i have to select some compatability option just to see the sculptmaps.

It's little flakey for me sometimes, I always have to save before I use it, but it's awesome all the same. The only mild annoyance is the place where it saves the exports, but I can live with it. Thanks so much for sharing all this with us.

Heck, some days I had to get Indiana Jones to help me find it. What I've since done is to create me a shortcut to the folder and dropped it into the 'My Documents' folder. Now my life is so much easier! |

I've been using a free program (Windows) called Filebox eXtender.
http://www.hyperionics.com/ It adds some features to the standard Windows file dialog boxes - like quick access to recently used and favorite folders. Pretty slick. I added that sculptmap folder to my list and now I can get at it with just 2 clicks. _____________________

I'm with you Vlad... just try it folks! I've already installed it a few month ago (my gf told me about) and for me it's really perfect for dealing with (m)any curious save-dirs

Yeah, I know, I'm such a selfish pig! ![]() Hmm, personally i think that's the feature that's missing the zsculpty plugin, especially since I can't get the Sculpty Maker (2.51) to work on my machine. Zsculpty works flawless though, and 2 more checkboxes for scale/offset would be totally awesome and help my workflow a lot... |
