I'm sorry Jumpman Lane...I cannot understand what you're trying to say. Sounds like you're a .... hmmmmmm... "misinformed person". If you didn't like the event then that's your business, but then the event IS what Second Life is all about. Therefore one can conclude that you don't like Second Life (but you apparently find jollies by talking like a buffoon and voicing your social skills or lack of). Might one suggest that you just may find happiness elsewhere?
It amazes me how people who apparently have difficulty communicating seem to appear in forums like this complaining about everything and feeling the need to use idiot-speak.
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your experience in Burning Life, Jumpman, I really am. Might I suggest you go back to playing on your XBox or Playstation, I hear that "Guitar Hero" is an excellant game and is probably more your speed, and you won't have to worry about being exposed to art, culture, or any of that "Hippy Scum" you seem not to like. Well, you will be exposed to music which is an art, so maybe... Halo? Trust me, I don't think the Lindens would care if you left...really! Have a nice day :)

PS - "Hooked on Phonics" wouldn't hurt.

I've been enjoying my trips over there---some lag issues, but not too bad.

I'm wondering to what extent the word has gotten out about this to actual Burning Man attendees---is there something at the event itself that tells people that Second Life has its own version? I'd think that people who have already been there would have the deepest emotional response to the SL version.

(Of course BM attendees are probably split between those who are more prosperous than the average person, and those who decline to participate in Society, and thus are much LESS prosperous than the average person. And that last group wouldn't necessarily be online...)

((I apologize if this has aleady been discussed--I confess that I haven't yet read all of this thread---))

Something quite mystifying--the notation that Katt Linden edited my post for Personal Attacks.

I'm just wondering how such an error could have occurred, since of course my post contained no personal attacks. (I can take a false accusation in stride, but it would be interesting to know the mechanism by which such can be made.)

A reply would be great! Any chance of one?

BL Impressions from a 4 month old.

A week is ok, I did not have time to see it all.
I have to film spring festivals in rl at this time of year--
In this hemisphere;
And get sore feet.

The art is SL is not the only art.
Everything that people build is making of the Sun.
And the ripe shrub writhed.

Buildings, poofers, twisted, tortured, prims and lag.

I really liked a black and white swirly thing I mouselooked inside.

Thank You! All you wonderful ppl who mangle, strangle and place with

precision...
Shapes and non-Shapes.

An exhilarating week
10-06-2008 08:08
I danced around the smoldering remains of the temple until quite late in my rl last night. It was a spectacular end to a spectacular week. I'm exhausted and my workshop is littered with new ways of thinking and seeing.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who made Burning Life '08 happen. The builders, the performers and the lamplighters made an amazing spectacle. Thank you to all the Rangers who helped with glitches; to the Lindens who kept such a load afloat as well as it did. And to Dusty, Poid, Mia and Talia, you have my gratitude for your vigilance in keeping us on the right path - as difficult as that was at times. :-)

As soon as I catch up on my sleep, I'll be looking forward to next year!

You too, eh? I've got all these things I did, mostly on the fly, for my build, in my inventory. In my workshop, a few dozen new ideas to play with. This makes me happy, even if I am beat. :-)

Thank you to all Participants and Visitors BL08
10-07-2008 00:38
MY second BL and much more experienced. The builds where wonderful, inspiring, confusing, Bright, sorrowful, and more, all a pleasure to have seen , interacted with and I still missed some.

My best thanks go to those that required Ranger assistance. Thank you for your patience, as we worked through the challenges you brought to our attention. Mediation is never easy in SL given the background of cultures, launguages, lag, moods and ideas of the residents we came to chat with. But the time spent was well worth the rewards as we enlightening visitors about the spirit of Burning life and the man. I think my Motto from now will be "speak quitely and carry plenty of water"

Peace and I look forward to assisting you at the next Burn.

There's a thread in the Town Hall Feedback forum about the upcoming changes to the forums rules. Instead of derailing this thread with talk of moderation, maybe that other thread would be a better place.

Or, if you just want to talk about last years BL, maybe start up a new thread.

Or, if you're just trying to piss off the Lindens so you can then complain about them smacking you upside the head, make sure to let us know how that worked out when your suspension is up.

hmm.. wanted to comment something but lindens would rule it as nasty or flamable..

anyway.. for lindens, better work up what you messed again with SL software.. it went down AGAIN....

pfff...
as SL software still goes down, i wasted a bit more of time and red all posts...
well.. as i see, it looks like that Katt Linden person got tired.. and did not censure that odd jumping one but did not censure the old fart Zsark too...

in same manner to respond: @Zsark, one can conclude, from the way you write, you are far from real life.. and it is more than clear that your life passed about century ago.. sorry.. but my advice is, get back on things proper to your ages.. leave the game for youngers...

peace... :)

Sooooo
10-07-2008 12:08
Sooooo talking crudely and with words like "turd" and the like are considered "real life", and the fact that I found the posts by Jumpman offensive makes me old fashioned and an old fart. Interesting. It seems that common decency is lacking from today's generation or I'm at least led to believe so.
In truth, Smax, you do not know me any more than I know you. One can only truly be judged by the way they talk and handle theirselves in here (unless you have some sort of magic crystal ball that does otherwise). I don't "shizzle" or "talk smak wit da ho's" language because it's...well it's ignorant to talk that way? No, that's not it...it's part of a culture I think. Anyways, it's not my culture but that's okay, however there's no logic in spouting off vulgarity and using excremental language in stating that you in fact hate the game and the creaters...makes me wonder why one would even bother. Jumpman apparently dislikes SL so much that he feels the need to put it down, yet in the same token he's posted here over 1000 times. Duh..if he doesn't like the game then why is he still here?
I think the Lindens did an excellant job with BL, and while Jumpman is entitled to his opinion I found it quite offensive in his language usage...that's the main issue I have with him.
Smak...as I've said, you do not know me...any more than I know you OR Jumpman. Your choice to judge me as someone old is again your opinion, and I don't see any point to argue the fact since, well, you're right. I am over 18 - and last I saw that's one of the requirements in playing SL. Just because I chose to speak as an adult doesn't make me an old fart, though. Heck you don't know anything about me...what am I, Smak? Am I black? Am I White? Asian Maybe? Am I Male or Female? Am I British? American? Australian? I can tell you what I am...I am a person who believes that there's no need to use foul language to get a rise out of people. I am a person who is offended by such language of ignorance no matter the cause be it cultural, spiritual, or just plain mis-information. I am a person with an opinion, and I'm certainly not afraid to express that opinion.
I am also someone who has met a number of the Lindens in game, and they've all been quite kind and helpful. The game's not perfect nor will it ever be, but that's no reason to refer to them as "turdbuckets". As my first post pointed out - they have the same problems with the game as we do, and I feel that they are always working to fix it. Heck, the BL event has grown to 22 Sims...could that have been possible just last year????
Smax...Jumpman and you both are entitled to your opinions, I cannot argue that you're not. But I can argue that there's no need for the language he used. Your opinion of me in doing so is, again, your opinion. I respect that as well even though you're wrong about me more than you can even begin to guess, lol!

Our group had a wonderful time at BL. Our first year! And we're already working on an idea for next year!

I thought nothing could be more amazing than the sims I see when I explore SL..but I was wrong..BL showcased some of the most unusual and creative talents I've ever seen.

Last week I met someone who only comes to SL for socializing (to meet women)...and I cannot imagine such a narrow view of this virtual world!

Congratulations to everyone involved in this project - lag or no lag it was marvelous!

BL De-brief
10-07-2008 12:28
Thanks to all who freely gave of their time and creativity to make BL08 a wondrous experience. I was heartened by lack of sponsorship and advertising on the majority of plots, but some commercial aspects still crept in, landmarks to sims for sale, clubs etc.. Some builds with URLs in their description to commercial web sites. In one build a tipjar, 'to help pay the DJ'. Perhaps a few more examples of what not to include in that respect of a BL build would be a good idea for next year.

I am already counting the days and thinking of what I might contribute myself next year.

Bravo to the Building Life Builders and all the behind the scenes volunteers

ehh.. well..
first above all - Lindens are not working their basic job... today, plenty of people have had odd problems to log into game... and, as there were no chances to send about the problems to Lindens, people have had on their own to manage how to log in... it came, at the end, we needed to change the locations to where we will start because those locations where we last logged out were in problems or something.. guessing is, all those problems were related with the new release... of course... "soooo" (huh you used my favorite mutation of a word lol, and i had to repeat it).. please, do not waste your words or my time about Lindens...

ok.. back on the subject...
i would never react on your post about that jumping clown if you did not put some of flame without any real reason.. and i can agree about the most of your claimings, esspecialy about his way of language (btw, english is not my language but SL helped me to develop a bit) or/and about his hate for people who participated in that so uneccessery ''festival' (my opinion is, there was nothing constructive or inovative to see, but made enormous lag and nothing else of it. but, what i do 100% agree with you, it is the choice of people who wanted to make that lag and to make something there... ''soooo'' /hehe, i had to put it again/, i will never crticize people who think it was good to be there or to be any kind of volunteer or what ever - they have had their fun as much as i do have my own around.). but... you took the right to speak your mind, like it is the only one way to see the things and you found your self offended in my words... why? i shot the main nerve? who cares? it was you who started with ''get a life'' words... that weirdo jumpman is probably, some kind of asocialized frustrated little guy, but in a same way as you took the power to face him with his demons, it seems that i faced you against your own... lol, well.. you will not see ''i am sorry'' words...

anyway...
who gives a damn if someone is with the different color of a skin? lol, i wonder why you did not put about relligion too LMAO... my respond was exactly about the language you and your jumping friend used in posts... and, yes, of course that he have the right to say his opinion about the 'festival'', just you do have the same right too.. if you see yourself (esspecialy when we concider your ancient ages) as a smart person, why you used the same language as he did in first place? well... i know you oldies, you just have the urge to put some salt of ''knowledge'' on everyone's head... well... it would make the pain for your old eyes to read more, and i will be merciful and will stop now :)

wish you the very warm day, because it will make good for your bones
wish you plenty reasons to smile :)

peace...

Great Event!

Like the previous years, I had missed the event untill the last day.
:( I did however take a few good images for memories. From what I saw, the displays were just amasing, some fine artists we have here that is for sure. :)

So I filmed as much of the 22 sims as I could - and just went over to the "Where is What" list to get the names for the creators of the exhibits....

Is there a master list somewhere that matches the exhibits to the creators?

Thanks!
