Claiming A Burning Life Plot Of Land 2008
08-22-2008 14:40
THis will be my second BL.....I loved being there last year though I hadn't the faintest idea what it was all about apart from a chance to show off bizarre ADVANCED building techniques. I loved the final torch procession but other than that I simply erected my edifice and kept to myself. IS the mode antique hippy....rusty WInnebago....ghastly Flower Power VW camper? I'm baffled. WHAT IS IS FOR. When can I claim a plot of land

I hope everyone who complained about lack of moderation is happy now. Instead of free speech and open conversation you get
---------------NO! Can't say that! ------------------Sorry can't do that-------------------------No sharing of informative websites---------------That's not a question---------- Are you new------ I suggest finding a 3rd party forum site like SLU where conversation is still allowed and the moderation is both light and understanding, and not abusive of power in the least. I guess it's just a matter of forum taste. Some prefer drink the watered down overly regulated kool-aid. I'm an adult though and prefer the hard stuff where I'm able to say and listen to everyone, even share opinions and *gasp* urls. |

One wont eat chocolate because it makes ones teeth bad.. but is tempted because it tastes nice.. The choice to conform or not is ones own choice. Complaining is ones own choice.. The chocolate sits waiting..it will still rot ones teeth if one decides to eat it.. it will still taste good.. but one wont get anything unless one gives in.. the rule is not ones determination, just a cause and consequence of choice. |

The same reason I always end up here. Someone points a thread out to me and says have a look. Plus I'm a very active member of the Second Life community, and as much as it blows, this is the best place to get an opinion voiced where it will be heard by the people that can make a difference, The Lindens. So I say what I feel I need to say even if it's not all sunshine and roses. This is the official Second Life forum. People should be able to openly and honestly say what they would like about everything second life without fear of being banned. If these unverified rumors about people possible being game banned due to a forum ban is true, well than that's total crap. No one should lose everything just because they get in a heated discussion on the forums and maybe said a little to much.

Dear Katt Linden,
I mean no disrespect, no ill meaning, no unnecessary insult when I say: This thread is for lack of a better word, "ridiculous". If you're going to do what you're doing, just REMOVE the thread. What remains behind makes zero sense. Pls show us some respect. Look at our registration dates, consider our experience, notice the fact that we're a bunch of 20-30-40-50 year olds. Stop treating us like a bunch of kids, we're not in highschool. Learn from our points of view instead of power washing the thread clean with Lindensol cleaner. _____________________

Clowns or Santas
08-24-2008 08:19
I've searched all over, but have not as yet found an answer that will alleviate my ignorance... the Theme Camp application form contains an item labeled "Clowns or Santas". Can someone please explain to me what are Clowns or Santas, and how do they pertain to Theme Camps on the Esplanade?
Much Thanks, Ian |

I have almost 6000 posts at SLUniverse. That count's for something right?? Under current gambling regulations those posts are not exchangeable for Official Linden Posts. Or, maybe, they are. Please ask whichever Linden is around at the time for a definitive answer that changes by the day. _____________________

I'm disgusted.
![]() Katt Linden's blatant censorship is despicable. Burning Man is supposed to be about freedom... Freedom of spirit, mind, thought, art, sexual being, the press, and everything else involving freedom. Censorship is the complete opposite of what Burning Man is all about. Burning Life obviously has nothing to do with the Users expressing themselves in SL. It's only about the candy coated corporate vision that LL wants the public to see. The way it is now - Burning Life with censorship, is a sham and a shame. Shame on you LL for doing that to the festival. Shame on you. ![]() _____________________

I decided not to go to join last years burning life after the prim nipplegate that happened on the statue. But I have always found http://burninglife.com/ to be a very good source of information.
btw Katt when will you have time to join forum rules discussion thread again? |

Clowns or Santas?
It's a joke question you might find yourself being asked by Greeters as you enter Burning Man. They question is, basically, with which group are you affiliated? There is a longstanding silly rivalry at Burning Man between the Santas and the Clowns. As you may imagine, when Clowns and Santas go on Rampage, (separately!) but then run into one another somewhere on the playa, things can get out of hand. In the case of Burning Man, if you happen to answer "Santas" when the question was asked by a "Clown" or visa versa, you can expect some extra sillyness before you actually enter the event. |

Small Camp parcel size, prim allotments
08-25-2008 01:51
What should one expect in the SIZE of a small camp, and perhaps more importantly, the PRIM allotments? Even a mention about small camps at last year's burn would help...
I have looked through much of the SL wiki, and "elsewhere", but have not found anything that specific. Thanks, in advance, for any reply. Livin' the Dream |

I tried to remember the details from last year but I couldn't, so I'll make a note to write that down this year. In 2007 I had a plot of land that was roughly 2000 sq m. and I think it has about 600 prims. It was plenty for me but I know some people build small fruit bowls with 100 prims inside them! (so it might not be enough). The organizers can possibly allow extra prims under certain circumstances (up to the sim limit)... but I am only talking from an unofficial, last years, point of view. So things might be different this year. |

Question About the Theme for BL
08-25-2008 14:05
It seems that in the past Burning Life has followed the theme of Burning Man. This year the theme is American Dream. Are we planning on following that theme this year? Second Life is such a global community, I do hope this isn't the case. I'd hate to perpetuate such an American-Centric perspective. Can one of the Lindens let me know. Its important information and will determine whether I will participate in BL this year.

Looking back at previous years, Burning Life has mirrored the theme of Burning Man for that year, but generally neither festival enforces rigid adherence to the theme. There have been many wonderful builds at both festivals that had nothing to do whatsoever with the given theme, and that's always been allowed as part of the spirit of artistic self-expression.
That said - Dusty, can you confirm that this year will continue that policy? There were a couple of moments last year ("Lordy, not the dead horse again!!!" ![]() |
