This girl wonders what "OL" means. OL On line and yes in the book there are a few places where 3rd person speech is done but its not all the time. 3rd person speech has been done in most chat programs by slaves its NOT how slaves talk. Slaves/subs ARE NOT mindless bimbos and the childish 3rd person speech really makes them sound it. If a so called master/mistress needs to make you talk like a baby maybe its to try and make them sound smarter . |

Thank you over and over
01-29-2009 06:08
I know it's silly to keep saying thank you over and over, but I appreciate all the comments. Even the silly ones. The offers to IM or meet inworld are much appreciated and I might take you up on it!
My intention now is to explore and of course to blog. I will roll up all these suggestions there, and point to this thread to give credit where it's due. I'll pop in a pointer to it once it gets some critical mass. I'm glad this thread didn't turn out to be a flame fest and that it was good for a few laughs too. |

Oh this subject is always good for a few laughs. Hey, to each their own, but Taking Oneself Seriously on the internet is generally always doomed to failure.
I've had questions about cultural boundaries myself. What if someone had a few bucks, could they get some goreans and give them as holiday gifts? If one of them ticked you off, could you cut a deal and give them to a furry area? I have yet to get an answer to that one, ever. "No, we don't want you for the typical reasons... how's your typing speed? My friend here could use a hand taking minutes at meetings..." Seems the rules are (a) leave people to do their thing in their areas and (b) if they bring their game elsewhere, you are free to bring your game too... and if that involves being a giant banana, well, hey - giant bananas have cultural rights and boundaries also. _____________________

Slaves/subs ARE NOT mindless bimbos and the childish 3rd person speech really makes them sound it. QFT! There was one man on IRC in an extremely strict rp only Gorean channel (as opposed to those who considered themselves "Lifestyle Goreans" and looked down on the rp'ers - another topic in itself...anyway...) who I thought had one of the best perspectives on matters Gorean. Something he said once I really liked - slaves are not little girls - they are mature women and he expected them to act as such - not use "baby talk" like "sissy" etc. As described in the novels, most Gorean slaves were not personally owned and only a minority were dancers, thus only a very "fortunate" few slaves were the perfumed, silked type one sees portrayed in most rp. In the novels the slaves worked hard in the fields, factories, etc. The slaves of agricultural cultures cleaned the livestock, etc. and got dirty from their work. _____________________

Oh this subject is always good for a few laughs. Hey, to each their own... Yes, I understand... What I asked and hoped for was some sort of portal or explanation or starting point for what's evidently a very developed online community. I couldn't find one. REALLY in the first place I came to SL for steampunk. I looked for the same thing (portal, explanation, starting point, info) but didn't find it. I was always alone. Wearing a very cool outfit, but always alone. I'm going to try to make my blog into the thing I couldn't find. |

Alix, I look forward to reading your blog- let us know when you post.
I have questions now for you- are you still unable to find Gor references in the forums? And, have you looked at the outside of SL links I and one other posted for you? I ask because there really is so much more, and you would be better prepared if you have some at least rudimentary knowledge of the stuff before you go too far- and, I suppose too, your own personal motivation for wanting to explore Gor- in SL or elsewhere- _____________________

I have SO MUCH to look at now. I checked out the links and the Gorean forum. I didn't find much here in the SL Forums but that's okay. I will try to check out the class that Brenda pointed out. Someone sent me a schedule of classes at Iaomai. Now I feel like I can start. Knowing that some areas are OOC helps A LOT. I feel pretty set. Just gotta start taking pictures and writing things down. |

Haha quite true Ms Hastings
![]() ...no matter how hard he struggled, Hammy the Sandwich could not escape his bonds. "I shall have you for a snack now, Hammy." No, no! Could it be? Was it truly Hammy's fate, the pinnacle of existence, to be... lunch? "It is time." Hammy was drizzled with peppercorn mustard, and a pickle was placed next to him. "Help me, Pickle!" "I shall not - this is my destiny." replied the pickle. Soon, a crowd gathered around - all hungry, preparing for the noontime ritual. It had always been thus. Many were captured from near and far - snack chips from the store, a Valencia orange from sunny Spain, a rather provincial Cobb salad and an exotic dish of Mongolian Barbeque, still resisting mightily. Resigned, Hammy consoled himself to being the best sandwich he could possibly be, for truly, this was his raison d'etre of existence in the first place... REALLY in the first place I came to SL for steampunk. I looked for the same thing (portal, explanation, starting point, info) but didn't find it. I was always alone. Wearing a very cool outfit, but always alone. Easily fixed! Region: Caledon Oxbridge, if you please - and my apologies, our gateway just opened Monday, it likely wasn't quite open when you looked. _____________________

Who would have thought that Caledon was such a kinky place. ![]() One of the best 'griefings' I had ever seen, was from a Well Known griefer of old - long since permabanned from SL, but he used to come around. He would be dressed as your classic Victorian Villain, walk the streets and find visitors still dressed in modern attire. "Good god miss - your legs are exposed All the Way to your Knees!" "Get off the street right now, scandalous dollymop! I am horrified at your complete lack of decency!" Of course I had to shoo him off, smooth ruffled visitor feathers and remind everyone that we don't have a dress code whatsoever - but I must confess to howling with laughter on the private side of the screen! Nobody takes themselves too seriously and gets away with it on the internet - especially neovictorians, furries and goreans ![]() _____________________

So Desmond, I'm curious: does Caledon have any places of ill-repute? Was there a place the scandalous dollymop could have retired to?

In the Wombat area is a Gorean sim. I found out what it was, after contacting the owner of the sim. We had a nice chuckle about my adventure in flying. I forgot the fellow's name but you can find it via Search on the SL site or inworld. Just contact the owner, first.

So Desmond, I'm curious: does Caledon have any places of ill-repute? Was there a place the scandalous dollymop could have retired to? Not that I'm aware of... but then, such things might operate under my radar. There has been a sort of maid service which has been a little bit private lately though... hmm... I suppose some people's homes are getting a bit dusty? I'm just going to assume it's prim dust and leave it at that! * * * * * Once upon a time, as a joke, I was fussing with a script that made a prim plywood cube move around in a goofy manner horizontally. With two people just normally sitting on these cubes, the mini-map could sure look... suspicious shall we say! Juvenile joke, yes... but a great way to say "don't map me and drop in!" And giggles all around if they did anyhow... _____________________

Gor in SL may as well not be Gor at all. I have never participated in Gor roleplay myself, but a vast majority of people I have spoken to about it do not even realise that it is essentially Science Fiction with a Soft Core Porn undertone. Even fewer realise that Gor is the name of the planet that they live on and, instead, associate the word 'Gor' with 'Gore'.
Sad, really. |
