My information might be dated, as I have not visited a Gorean sim in ages. Most Gorean sims had their rules and information posted at the landing point when you enter. Many also have a library where you can go study the culture and scribes who can assist you.

The Gorean sims were the first role-play sims that I encountered in SL. I thought the role play might be interesting having read many of the John Norman novels as a teenager. I was mostly enchanted with the flying tarns from the books. In SL I found the roleplay emphasis on slavery and generally negative and abusive attitude towards women hard to swallow. Needless to say I did not fit into the culture so I gave it up.

Nevertheless there are lots of people in SL who seem to enjoy the Gorean role play a lot, so I'm sure someone will come along soon who is willing to lead you into a life of slavery.

Honestly, it looks to me like the Panther Girls have the most fun. They are tribes of run away slaves. Check them out.

Also no one can really hurt you or force you to do anything in SL that you are not willing to submit to.

Oh, and studying up on Gor by reading the books, while thorough, is hardly required to participate in SL Gor. And some find the books... difficult... to get through.
Very nicely put. I can't be so diplomatic: Norman's books consist of some of the worst text ever committed to pulp. Fortunately, online Gor has evolved for decades, relegating the books to a source of conveniently exotic-sounding nouns to use during role-play--usually ironically, or for their camp value. Online Gor is often very humorous; the books: not so much. So, the point: don't judge SL Goreans on the basis of the books; most of them do know better.

The books are mostly helpful so you can be in on the jokes.

It's not you Alix. The forum topics are cyclic. Since you're new here, you couldn't know that. But those of us who have been around for a while tend to get a bit... jaded by the constant repetition. Again, it's not you. The search function is horrible here, and there's so much more LL could do to make the learning process better for everyone.

3: Dress appropriately. Most Gorean sims offer at least one set of free clothes suitable for males, and one set suitable for females, so you can blend in. Walking around their sims in a Star Fleet uniform is as out of place as being a Dragon.

Starfleet has already concluded that the Goreans are not ready for first contact, but there's one Martian who'd like to nuke them from orbit. Something about Gor obstructing his view of Venus.

To the OP- You asked about SL Gor but since you were pointed at at least one Online source not related to SL- here is another: http://gorchronicles.com/modules/newbb/

These folks seem more tolerant than some other Gorean places while not covered in the nonsense one sees online about Gor.

Seriously, I'm glad you got there.

I've read enough in these forums to realize that it isn't all questions and answers here. Going off topic and making jokes is part of the deal. So it's cool.

I have searched these forums and google for the answer and didn't find it. I didn't think I was the first to ever ask.

A Gor thread! Well, there's hope for the forums yet.

There used to be active Gor players who would respond to these threads at length, if someone out there is in contact with such a person, perhaps they could be asked to visit to help out?

A few observations from my SL Gorean adventures two years or so ago, but I'm sure these are still true:

> It is easy to become very serious about any RP, and there are many in SL Gor, particularly the 'lifestylers', who are very serious indeed. Folks who take their D/S RP very seriously can be a bit overwhelming. It is well to remember that you have a "quit" button.

> There are also many in SL Gor who have a sense of humor about it. Personally, I had a lot of fun in Gor. I wish I had a picture of my sim's slave coordinator (I forget the right title) and a couple of his kajirae, on dancing cows.

> Much Gorean RP is quite wordy (many kajirae just cut/paste from the Gor novels when serving or dancing). Also, kajirae have a limited scope of action, though they can hold some interesting offices in sims, as event coordinators and educators. But so far as I could see, kajira in SL led comparatively boring lives; it seemed to me that, of the female roles, panthers had the most fun. Ymmv.

My suggestion is to go in dressed like fruit, or an entire fruit basket if you have any friends. Turns out Goreans don't like fruit, even though they insist that their women be slim.

So you may be tossed out of the sim but you'll have the best time trying!

To each their own. If you are curious about Gor and want to tour Gor sims, then my only advice is to wear a titler that says "Observer" the entire time. People have no other way to know that you are new, not roleplaying, and are merely looking.

Some sims do not allow observers (I have no idea if this includes any Gorean sims). Read *all* note cards at the entry point of a sim before going in. Along with those freebie silks, there should have been some sort of titler you could wear that indicated you were only visiting. Observers/visitors should be "invisible" as far as role play goes.

If you chose a red silk no wonder someone approached you and asked you to follow him. Lol.

Google 'Second Life Gor' and you should find tons of user blogs; (the phrase) 'SL Gor' won't do much for you. I've run across a glossary in the past (wondered what Gor was) and user blogs. I don't have any URLs for you though.

*If* the sim isn't busy, you might be able to IM another girl and ask her questions. She may or may not answer, but you can try that. I think the best way to learn is to ask people who know by experience. Oh and apparently some 'real life' Goreans think online Gor isn't possible, so there's that, too. People seem to have strong feelings about Second Life Gor and Gor in general - one way or the other.

Online- but no, it isn't exclusively OnLine- it is found through out the novels though not consistently. It is however, accepted and expected in most Online Gorean communities so I would imagine SL Gor as well.

As I recall, the only thing that flags a Gorean girl as having a worse case of "loose morals" than one who wears red silks are the ones with pierced ears. Or something like that...

Gorean + Red silks + pierced ears? Breaks the top off the "Trout" rating scale in these forums..."

There was a Gor sim a while back called Hurlit or Herlit (sorry, I can't remember exactly) but it was noob friendly, didn't require a titler and didn't mind non-Gorean (but human) avatars wandering around. I'm not sure if it's still there, though.

I'm in SL waiting on someone to show up and, yes, Herlit is still there.

I have pics of a gay furry friend of mine riding an unicorn across a Gorean sim....he was booted and banned in short order. :D

My question is, how can I found out about the Gor sims? What I'd like to know is, is there one where I can go without fear of being harmed?

Alix, I was involved with online Gor for 12 years on IRC before coming to SL. Most of what I've personally seen of Gor on SL is nonsense, which is largely why I'm no longer a part of it.

As for where you could go find out more about Gor and be safe:

*Iaomai - Actually a teaching center...very friendly...will not tolerate abuse or forced anything

*A^Turian^Gate - The residents there are old time "by the book" Goreans who imo are the most knowledgeable residents as a group. Also do not permit abuse or forced capture/collar, etc.

If you want more info on individuals I could introduce you to who are safe, IM me here or in world.
