I have 2 friends that are married in rl and they both play sl and live separate sl lives but they do have several businesses together inworld. Well, I just learned they had a guest over the holiday. The guest happens to be one of the rl spouse's sl partner. The rl married spouse is always goo gooing and gaga-ing how much they love this person in front of their rl spouse inworld.

Personally, I would find this scenario highly uncomfortable. I'm interested in your thoughts.

Oh, I did/do mind my own business. Future responders, just asking a simple question not asking to be criticized for it.

My first knee-jerk reaction is that it's not your business; it's between them.

Ditto. But curious how you know this. Were you there to witness the interaction or is this secondhand news?

One of them told me directly that's how. I said well ok... hope you all had a good time. So that should dispel any future questions about how I know. Yes, I did mind my own business.

I'm just asking your thoughts on it.

If you assume that this married couple is your traditional married couple, with a sexually exclusive relationship, then this would be an insane idea.

And I know of a lot of real life marriages that have ended in divorce based on virtual reality play.

However, two (or more) adults may define their relationship however they choose. If this couple has talked about their real/virtual play, agreed on the rules, and are open and honest with each other about it, then it would not be for me or anyone to judge them.

Would this kind of thing work for me? Hell no. But not everyone is required to be like me.

Amity, what you said is very true. By no means and I am being judgemental towards them. Different strokes for different folks. No pun intended.

Me, I second your hell no.

This.

There are as many ways to be happy within a marriage as there are happy married couples. This may be the first time you (OP) have encountered a non-monogamous or open relationship, but it's not the first time one's happened - with or without SL - and it won't be the last. As long as people are honest with their spouses and agree to the rules, they should have the freedom to do whatever makes them happy.

Forcing people to be monogamous when it doesn't satisfy them, for whatever reason, wrecks marriages too.

Considering all the types of questions some very off the wall, my answer to you is a hodpodge (sorry if that was spelled incorrectly) of responses.

OP - Me too, but it works for them. That's why I wouldn't but they would.

If the SL partner of spouse A gets along great with spouse B, then good for them. I'm sure it could work out great.

Or it could crash and burn. Either way, only one way for them to find out.

/me thinks it's loveely if it worked out for all involved- /me has distinctively different views and does not find monogomy to be particularly beat all end all.

Ok my main question is this... does the wife have a rl sister who believes the same as her?

Mind you... we are all assuming that something shouldn't have happened did... i.e. sex. We don't know if all 3 get along really well and are friends. I have a club I dj at and the owners in game are married in SL. The man's wife also plays but she knows the other woman and they are great friends. The RL Wife knows that it's just an in-game thing.

It wouldn't and couldn't work for me. The whole thing, from beginning to end.

I can't say if it will work for your friends.
