One of my SL spouse's slaves was my RL boss and my SL ex-wife.
The chimp was an underage guy from Jamaica.
My SL spouse's RL husband was a transsexual who was having a RL affair with the my SL spouse's ex-SL husband.
My RL spouse was SL married to my own RL dad.
My SL spouse was a dude.

I think there are many models of relationships that can work for different people - monogamy, polyamory, swinging are three different versions that are all perfectly viable as long as everyone is happy.

I think that the biggest issue around SL and relationships is concerned, is that people treat it differently from RL relationships. The whole "it's ok in SL, but not in RL" thing may work for a while, but in the end is more than likely going to come back and bite everyone involved (and not in a good way!)

Whenever you get into a situation where the "standard" rules of monogamy are deliberately broken, even in a virtual world, you need to be very VERY certain between you and your partner what the new rules are - don't assume ANYTHING.

I assume the OP has posted here to learn about what goes on in situations like this, rather than judging the people involved.

Well, we went through all of this, and let me tell you, this is not pretty. I was SL married to a woman and both our spouses played and it wound up we all found ourselves at a club and lo and behold, the SL spouses also got along great. Then it comes to pass that we all found Gorean. Six months later I had a RL spouse, a SL spouse, and 3 slaves. My RL spouse had one SL spouse, two Masters, one SL husband, and 6 slaves. My SL spouse had me, her RL husband, one chimpanzee and 2 slaves.

We decided it would be a great idea to have a RL holiday party. I had to rent a hotel for it, naturally. Because by this time there was like 50 people involved. The cost alone was terrible but we were all excited. The excitement quickly turned to dismay when everyone showed up and I discovered:

I have 2 friends that are married in rl and they both play sl and live separate sl lives but they do have several businesses together inworld. Well, I just learned they had a guest over the holiday. The guest happens to be one of the rl spouse's sl partner. The rl married spouse is always goo gooing and gaga-ing how much they love this person in front of their rl spouse inworld.

Personally, I would find this scenario highly uncomfortable. I'm interested in your thoughts.

Oh, I did/do mind my own business. Future responders, just asking a simple question not asking to be criticized for it.

I have actually met a few couples that are *considering* a 'swinging' lifestyle in RL (that is not a reference to the chimp discussion ). And one of them told me that swapping and playing around in SL was how they were trying to get an understanding of their true feelings on the whole swinging concept. If they cannot handle it here, in a virtual environment, then they know they should not try in RL. By the same token, if they can do it here and maintain proper perspective and full disclosure and honesty, then they will go ahead and try it in RL.

We all define relationships and sex and intimacy in our own ways. I whole-hearted applaud the ones willing to push themselves and experiment in this world - experiment in any and all ways that they want. Especially if they are using this world to help them in discovering something for RL. That, to me, seems like one of the best benefits of SL or any other virtual environment.
