From: sable Valentine Oh, I did/do mind my own business. Future responders, just asking a simple question not asking to be criticized for it.
And yet I have to remark... you push your own idea of cheating and unfair to them? Don't do that. Leave everyone in their own values.... as long it doesn't hurt you personally it is quit frankly none of your business... Please allow me now to go and hug my SL partner.... who happens to be my RL partner. And if the hugging happens in SL or RL... sorry, none of your business. Morwen.

Morwen. Quite the contrary, I haven't pushed anything. I merely asked a question. By all means do you need to do and I will tell you this, what you do is with your partner is your business but since you put it out for others by the mere comment then it could be open for opinion. So by all means go and hug in whatever you life you choose.

From: Avawyn Muircastle According to people in this thread, you should not publish on the internet what friends have told YOU or they'd consider you no "friend" and drop ya' like a hot potato. If you'd like to delete your post, just say so in this thread and I'll delete mine too. np It was not told to me in private - it was said in open chat at a club. That makes the conversation public.

to answer your question... If both of them know about each others.. obviously having their sl partner in rl is something they had talked about and agreed to...
As for would I allow it... well I would not allow my rl partner (if I had one) to even have a sl partner that wasn't me.. (in a romantic sense)
But, now I must say... its really none of your business and now you've made it ours to so everyone we see we will wonder.. hmm is that them??
Hey couples swing all the time, who am I to judge.

Nope, sorry, could not allow it.
For one thing, as I've told my kids - the house is in no shape for company, and nobody is having anybody over until it is, and it isn't going to clean itself and I'm not doing it alone...
And then there's the fact that there's not really anywhere for company to sleep. I mean, the kids can get by with friends in sleeping bags on the floor of their bedrooms but our room doesn't have even that much space... and the couch really doesn't cut it for sleeping on...
And with all the crazy scheduling we've had during the holidays, trying to work around company would have been just too much of a hassle...

One good Gorean thread an I've won! So far you are the winner of this thread, Mari. From: Brenda Connolly Get a "Where's My Stipend?" and you hit the Trifecta Well maybe it's a tie. From: Avawyn Muircastle I often wondered why ape evolved man is shown without long beards? Did cave men shave? Also if they had no need to shave, how did male facial hair evolve into what it is today?
Wouldn't an apeman look more like the guys in ZZ Top? I think ZZ top type beards are a a later adaptation to life in cold climates.

From: Amity Slade Even though I'm one of those people who say "to each their own," I don't blame the OP (or anyone who posts a similar topic on this forum) for wanting to discuss the issues.
The still very new technology of the internet is rapidly and significantly transforming the ways in which we socialize with each other. These issues are ones we should discuss early and often.
And even though I believe that consenting adults should define their relationships the way they want, I also know that, of the married couples who "play" in virtual reality with others, with whom I am personally familiar, those married couples almost always end up divorcing.
Though I don't discount the possibility that couples could be happy with open relationships, or virtual play, it seems that couples in fact have a difficult time making it work. If they are to figure out ways to make it work, they need to have plenty of discussions like the one in this thread.
And then if people are to successfully identify themselves as people for whom this wouldn't work, they need to have discussions like one in this thread.
So I'm sure to forum regulars, these threads seem like they are beating a dead horse. But to anyone who has not participated in past discussions, it's a brand new issue. Reading the old threads isn't the same informative experience as participating in one, and offering one's own perspectives, and getting feedback from others.
I think these threads are a good thing, if we are to get accustomed to the way in which virtual reality is changing our lives and our society. I agree.

From: Dilbert Dilweg Pretty big gamble to take if you ask me. One would have to ask them selves how much they really valued their relationship to risk shattering it over a sense of pleasure. I would never head in that direction . I value my wife very much not to have something like that destroy what i treasure most. But 2 each his own . thats how i feel about it I know 3 couples who ventured down that road. and now all 3 couples are divorced or going thru one. That's 3 and 3. The odds don't look good in those situations. But some can pull it off .. your friends experiences notwithstanding there are plenty who not only do the same thing, but have no trouble with it and go back for more... in fact, it's not entirely clear from the OP's post which if not BOTH parties idea it was. it generally helps if it's both, but that can lead to other disasters (like jealousy over the additions attention)... don't get me wrong, most relationships aren't built in a way that this is workable, but there's plenty that are. TBH your 3 friends examples are more likely symptomatic of other problems, and not likely caused by this particular venture

From: Avawyn Muircastle Well science and religion both have aspects of faith... Wrong. Faith is belief without proof. A scientist is always willing to alter his beliefs based on the evidence, or on discovery of new evidence. Religion never wants to change its beliefs, no matter how much evidence is presented. If it does change its beliefs, it becomes an entirely new religion. The difference between scientific theory and religion is, you don't have to eradicate or annihilate old science when the evidence changes. You just add to it.

Well, a good scientist will. There are many throughout history who have denied new evidence because it contradicted something they believed (or wanted) to be true.

There's always that "good" condition, isn't there? Or honest or professional. All things being equal, I think we know what a true scientist *should* do, but yes... not always guaranteed.

From: Maggie McArdle actually it raises the question of why would you take something your friend told you in private, and post it in a public forum? to me that shows a total lack of respect not only of your friend's privacy, but also your "friendship".
oh and here's my thought on it: if you were my friend, and i told you something this intimate, and you turned around and did this? I'd drop you like a bad habit. Well, that is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. Everyone is certainly within their right to ask a question.

Just in the last several months I have taken a more active interest in the forum due to the openspace situation. So, I am one of those who have not participated in these past discussions. I apologize if it seems as if another dead horse is being beaten again.

I have a horse. It's not dead (was never alive), but there could be beatings on it. Does that count?
