I think Lady Nelson's famous remark says all that really needs to be said.
She was the wife of Admiral Lord Nelson, the hero of the Battle of Trafalgar, and he for whom London's Trafalgar Square was built. There was some particularly juicy and lurid scandal in her day in London Society involving famous people and particularly unusual sexual practices, and everyone was clacking over it. When finally asked her opinion of it all, she, who had a reputation for wit, gave a classic response I consider words to live by in SL:
"I don't care what they do, as long as they don't do it in the road and frighten the horses."

Hugh Hefner built his empire in the 1950's. Larry Flint isn't exactly what I'd call "class".Either is Seymour Butts, or Vivid entertainment. in any case... still... the reality is that morality in language use is arbitrary fluid, and driven by the moral minority... not the immoral majority. All three market the same Product, but of the Three the ONE with the best Public image, and the greatest legitimacy is Hefner, and the reason All comes down Not to what is being sold, but How it is packaged, and Marketed. Hefner showed people that there was Nothing Dirty about sexuality. Women consider it an Honor to be asked to Pose for Hefs Magazine. Flint Forced people to see thier Hypocracy in Condemning Sex, while accepting, Praising, or Advocating things like War, and Violence. He wanted a More Accurate and truthful definition of "Obscene". Butz,, He's just a Business man. To him Sex is an Industry in the same Fashion as if he were making Plastic Forks. He Has organized a Legal defence Fund for people in the Industry who have been charged under State Obscenity laws, But not much else beyond make Money. Each one has a "Class" of thier Own, and a Market for thier Product. Same holds true for the Rolls Royce, the Ford and the Yugo. it's the Manufacturer who Chooses What Market he wishes to Tap. This is a Part of the Problem the OP is running in to. LL, who holds ALL the cards when it comes to what Is, or is Not acceptable advertising has said a definite NO to the Flint/Butz approach. Logical solution, Go for the Hefner approach. Different Market, but JUST as Profitable, if not More so, as it would attract people who are put off by the "In your Face" approach. it's the route where he will make the Most progress. He will make None if he just keeps posting here complaining, and Hoping LL will change it's Mind. Angel. |
