From: Meg Box My problem with your business isn't the actual act involved, my problem is that it is "business". I'm never a fan of payin' for something that ought to be free. I understand all the arguments in favor of an "industry", so don't start spoutin' Tiffany.
I'm just saying that mixing money and sex, to me, is far more "vulgar" than any act you can POSSIBLY imagine... and believe me, I've imagined a few that wouldn't occur to you on your best day.
Meggy Lol meg i have to disagree. Some men need to make up for their lack of charm somehow.

Regarding group names... those can be read by anyone, no matter where you are, and have to be PG because they can be read by someone in a PG zone, even if you check that no mature content flag (that only applies to certain kinds of searches, and certainly not avatar search).
If you want a sim dedicated to X-rated content, buy one. Why should LL dedicate their own resources specifically for adult content when you aren't apparently willing to do the same?

I came into SL not knowing a thing about it. It didn't take long to learn of the sex indusytr and I must admit to being intrigued by it. I've never done anything in the way of online sex, but I did a lot of exploring of the various businesses. I found most of the implements to be very well dopne form beds to poses, even the 'interactive genitals' can be fun if used properly. However a lot of the venues seem to be cheap, cheesy, and derivative. Crass and Vulgar are words I don't use often, but that's what a lot of it seems to me. There's no creativity, or sensuality in a lot of it. I recently had my first SL experience and it was remarkably enjoyable and fufilling experience. I definitely believe there is a place for Sex in Sl, in almost any form or fetish, it just needs to be handled properly.

From: Tiffany Widdershins HA! men have been paying for sex one way or another since the dawn of time. You think first dates are 100% about getting to know your soul? wake up and smell the coffee! Jaded, cynical, derisive... yeah, first dates CAN be about getting to know your soul (but more likely, the other person's soul)... I don't dispute the fact that in one form or another men pay for sex... they pay emotionally, they pay when losses of family occur, and I fear in some cases with establishments such as yours, they pay doctors. Not that the same payment isn't made when you're gettin' it for free... but at least it isn't a direct economic burden on either party and thus enjoyment can be freely had by both involved. Sheesh, what else in life is free anymore? Oh, and I take cream and two sugars, thank you. Meggy

About LL wanting SL to be a PG Utopia...
03-14-2007 16:28
I gota say i saw this coming when they tried to force people to wear clothing that time on the beta grid a few months back... They had some sort of plan already in mind. They removed it from the code because the underwear still showed under your normal underwear which looked really tacky. So yea... I believe their trying to mess up SL and make it PG, yet they still prevent kids from playing it? Why torcher us adults like this? Isn't the internet for porn like that song says? jk. But seriously Porn and Nudity exist all over the internet. Why should SL be any different? If parents are so worried about their kids seeing it, then they should unplug their modem... I mean the kids are gona find out anyway... It ain't like they never have to deal with it in adulthood. Now for business purposes i still can't see denying us the ability to have porn in SL. I can understand if some big name company wants to take SL seriously as a business, but they can do that now without any problem... It's just that they personally don't like the fact that something completely oposet of them exists in the same world.

From: Broccoli Curry Who said anything about limiting you to only things you can do in real life? There are thousands of things that anyone can do in SL without going anywhere near 'adult activities'.
As I said, if you want sex, go play Sociolotron instead.
Broccoli Gah - Socliotron is horrible for sex. Im 100% convinced the idea for Xcite came from there. I dont see how anyone could get into it there its like playing sex a video game. Why should people interested in Sex have to have a fourth rate experience becuase your dont want to see any porn. Im all for better zoning. I think LL could manage that without taking a stance on sex. IF they can have 2 catagories why not three. But the idea of shipping all the non sex people away? bla. I started a thread 2 years ago for the anti sex crowd. I wanted there to be 3 grids not 2. Teen Second Life, PG Second Life, and the good old Second Life we all know. None of the Pg'rs wanted to go. Would rather they had freedom and deneied others.

I can think of better ways to make money... And yiff...
No reason why porn shouldn't be allowed (even abundant as far as I'm concerned) but your argument about "kids are gonna do it anyway" doesn't hold water. They are all going to die someday too, is that any reason to put a bullet in their brains just to prove the inevitability of it all?
Let's try to protect their innocence as long as possible.

Do you think its possible instead of getting all the teens out of second life , instead they want to make us all a Family Values second Life, so they can merge the teen grid in? Without playing House , what "the mainstream" of Second Lifers do?

From: Griffin Aldwych By the way...would this be a good time to bring up the start of the slippery slope...? those who have seen me post elsewhere will know what I mean.
Given all the acronyms that appear in forum posts, I'm surprised "ITYS" doesn't appear more often.

From: Brenda Connolly Please, No. I came to Second life to escape Teens. Well if they "clean up" SL for good - why do they need a seperate teen grid? Actually the grids arent even seperate the teens are just walled off from us. Course NOTHING would destroy the SL economy faster than getting rid of sex. with no sex you dont need full body skins, wild hair, 100 pairs of high high heels , tight tight clothes, 1000's of lindens in animations, private sky boxes, excite, etc ,etc ,etc

Family Values???????
03-14-2007 16:55
What a crock! isnt family values just a marketable term for "Do it like the Bible says"? Since when does one group's values get to dominate the agenda as if everyone else has no values? Who makes those determinations? Ted Haggard? Jimmy Swaggart? Jim baker? Pat Buchanan? James Dobson? Oral Roberts? Benny Hinn? Jerry Falwell? George Bush? Who? Who is it that gets to determine what family values look like. You think the local single mom that dances on a pole to feed herself and her kid wants her kid to have a crappy life, whereas the soccer mom has it all together? give me a break! Stop drinking the Kool-aid people!

Cum rags?
03-14-2007 17:04
The conversation's moved on, but I thought others might be amused (or perhaps horrified) to learn that I'd mistakenly assumed Tiffany's group name started with a different c-word.
As far as having to make group names PG, I don't see why that's such a huge thing to ask. Even a lot of 'net-based adult communities and adult business portals have a PG to R requirement for publicly viewable areas. The guys aren't dumb, and they'll figure out the purpose of your group easily enough and find the smut inside.

Group names MUST conform to PG standards because group names are Viewable Everywhere, and by Everyone.
I Understand you are engaged in a Mature themed Business, but does that Preclude your using a Little Tact and/or Class in selecting a Name, or do you feel compelled to be as Coarse, and lewd as Possible? Try something with a Little more Elan, or Sophistication. Adult doesn't need to mean Obscene. Remember, Hugh Hefner built an Empire on Sophisticated, and Cultured adult entertainment.

Hugh Hefner
03-14-2007 18:04
Hugh Hefner built his empire in the 1950's. Larry Flint isn't exactly what I'd call "class".Either is Seymour Butts, or Vivid entertainment. in any case... still... the reality is that morality in language use is arbitrary fluid, and driven by the moral minority... not the immoral majority. That's a crock of .....
