Ohhh that sounds rather interesting, but from the little info about it it sounds like ti costs designers to be on the sim for the month. I am curious how much it costs. If you wouldnt mind sharing I would love to know before I IM the manager for the event (dont want to sound all interested then just gonup cos of the costs... i feel rude)

For a small shop, I can't remember the prims, but it was a LOT of prims in a 10x10, I paid 2000L for the whole time of the expo, basically, and in my mind, it worked out to be on the high end of prim/lindens for a shop rental, but not too bad, considering the publicity. it's worth a shot for the exposure, in my eyes.

Well- I was looking thru some of the things others have shown in that blog.. I am sooo not ready to be on the same stage as those folks- but give me time!

Thought I would nudge this over in case anyone still interested- if not we can just - uhm.. let it die..?

It does seem like our tips have sort of all been suggested/shared and graciously cataloged by Skell.

Thanks to this thread we have a Biz Owner Network Group to further share ideas for our respective businesses! We've shared the various Free Groups and begun using them as well as various posters offering free space for various lengths of time.

I'm continuing to take classes on SL businesses when I see them offered (great one held by Jojogirl last Monday with another this coming Monday (9/22/08 at 5 pm SLT).

This is a thread I'll refer to again and again and thank everyone for their great ideas and contributions and Rhia for beginning it.

Now what I personally need to do is start putting what I've learned into practice.

Thanks Czari! I agree that I think we have kinda gone over about every single thing we can here. Maybe folks would want to start sharing in world also? Possibly meeting? You are always welcome at Etopia if anyone wants to set up meeting times. We can even add it to our Etopia calendars if we schedule that chats in advance.

I liek the idea of regular meets in world- i am computer impaired right now so don't count me for a while- but hope not poofed for too long...

Meetings sound like a great idea...maybe something along the lines of monthly so it isn't too overwhelming with what we're all involved in....but yet often enough to share anything we may have learned that worked recently.

I too think we have all pretty much come up with what ideas we can think of

I have not said much else here because I just do not feel right posting here to announce every time I release something else to say I used such and such suggestions again, after awhile it just feels like I am spamming and advertising (and there have been complaints to me in the past for posting about my stuff so I also keep quiet due to that as well)

I will not attend any meetings. My RL is rather unsure at the moment on availability, as I am job hunting and not sure if or what I will find. I am also thinking of dropping out of the group, as I have not been actively using it, and I tend to like to only have groups slots used for groups I am active in.

Skell also put together a blog for all this and I tried getting a new area there for us to post updates and progress reports so we could see what works and what don't but never did see any new areas or even any posts I tried to make

I also will not be active with this thread much as I just don't know what else to say.

I appreciate all the good advice that has been put forth in this thread as it has helped me to understand more about marketing and how to get my name out there. As for has it increased sales, not really, but the marketing of freebies is definitely getting my name out there, which is the first step.

Meetings sound like a good idea and i agree with Czari, monthly would be much better aswell.

I'll try to attend meetings myself but RL at the moment is pretty hectic and i've not been on SL as much as i want too.

That's a shame Rhaorth but i wish all the best with your business.

Count me in for any meetings. Like everyone else, there's a good chance I won't be able to fit it in my schedule, but I'll be there if possible.

There have already been several good ideas for topics mentioned in the thread. Here are some things I'd like to explore:

-- Each person discuss one favorite business tip.

-- Each person mention a shopping pet peeve. Then we could discuss ways to avoid those problems in our stores.

-- Improving search results. Get together, select an item to shop for, and ask each person which search terms and which search tab they would use. We can then discuss the results we get in search and how we can do better in our stores. (When I opened my store, I often asked friends what terms and search tab they would use for specific items. The results varied, of course, but I got an idea of what was most common. I also got a few new ideas as a result. This was one of the most rewarding things I did for my business.)

-- Each person bring a new item or idea for a new item and get responses from the others. (When I'm working on a new item, I frequently ask friends for their thoughts on how to make it more appealing.)

-- Meet at one member's store and discuss/critique anything and everything. We've done some great critiquing in the thread, but if several of us are together at a location for an on-the-spot discussion, it may be even more fruitful.

This stuff is REALLY well thought out and i think this shows that with a little thought we can always work together to continue improving all of our stores. Yes the original momentum has gone out of this thread, which I expected much sooner I must say, however this shows there is still use for either this thread or an in world group.

I think the use of both is best if we can so that those who dont or cant make meetings (im on Aussie time so i may not be in world when meetings are held cos i sleep during most of the US days).

I would love to explore everyones pet shopping peeves in here. This for me would be an interesting discussion, although another thread may generate more notice and thoughts. But the use f how to avoid those would be great.

And search terms on items is a definate thought. This is something i havent given much thought to to be honest and is probably something that i should.

Ohhh and Miles.... i am glad to see you are doing well (heheh i know cos i got three cards frm your store for my birthday yesterday)
