oh duh...didnt think of using alts LOL

The thing about alts is- they do have to have payment on file and i believe they need to be 'active'. Meaning if you made the alt and they don't ever go in-world, it is not going to be much help- at least that is what i have heard.

Hhehehehe

It is better if they have payment info on file though, from what i understand avies with payment info on file have a higher weighting.

One of my alts does so i can use him and me, thats like 14 spaces i have

I max out my pics by highlighting items in my store, so i cant play.

Same here, besides a couple of pics of businesses that have gone above and beyond in service for me and I want to share that with others (never asked by any of the businesses I put in my picks to do so and were so appreciative when I did).

Good idea, though.

The Picks links from different avs do have different values (weightings) but not for that reason, and the values are not something that can be easily arranged.

It's been a long time since I checked it, but back then, multiple Picks from one av to the same parcel only counted as one.

PIOF avs won't help at all unless they have an HTML page. Picks only count from avs with HTML pages, which includes some NPIOF avs.

I think if you look for them and they have a listing in the All search, then they have a page. Not the listing at the top that pops open the profile window, but an actual result below that. Hopefully, Phil will correct me if I am wrong.

Search on their name in the All tab. Those with an HTML page have 2 listings - one is to the normal profile box and the other to is the HTML page. Picks for those with only a normal profile box listed are no good for search purposes, but are still portable ads, of course. (ETA: I was writing as you posted, Nimue. You were correct, of course)

I'm not 100% on that. It's a long time since I checked it and I did get that impression back then, but I can't be certain about it.

The way that Picks count at all for the All search is that they are links on the av's html page - links to the Place's html page, that is. Soon after the All search came in, I filled the picks of me and my alt with picks (links) to my store, but the extra links didn't make any difference in the rankings - and that was in the early days, when it didn't take many links to move up the rankings. However, if my memory is correct, and I'm going back a bit again, the clickable link text of those extra picks IS taken account of, so that some extra picks for the same place could be used by changing the text in an extra Pick's name field to something different to the original, but worth targeting. That can easily be tested by having 2 or 3 extra picks to the same place, inventing a few words and putting one in each of the extra picks. Then wait a day or so and do a search for each of the invented words. If the place gets listed, then all the clickable link text counts for the place, and not just the link text from one of the picks.

sooooo how does one get a HTML page for an avie??

So if i wanted to make sure my alts picks were useful, how do i make sure he has a html page?

Have the av do something that requires an html page. Start a group, for instance (that's one way that NPIOF avs get them). I think that all Premium avs have html pages by default.

I think I've read that placing a Classified gets an html page. Classifieds were going to be a part of the All search, like traffic is, but it was only partly implemented and Classifieds have no effect on the rankings. Even so, the part of the system that creates an html page for a person who places a Classified may be in working order. It's worth testing anyway. If it works, the html page may only last as long as the Classified lasts. It's something I've never tested. If it does work, what's the lowest cost for a Classified? For that, you get 10 Picks for each av that spends it.

ETA:
By "do something that requires an html page", I mean that if a link to an av is required somewhere, then they create an html page for the av, so that the link actually goes somewhere. E.g. a group's html page links to the founder (av), so the founder needs an html page for it link to.

But a classified would cost 50L a week.

starting a group would be by far cheaper seeing as it is 100L as a once off cost and i assume the HTML page would last for the lifetime of the group.

Hmmm interesting. My alt might just have to start himself a group to test this

Is 50L the minimum for a Classified? Even so, it wouild be worth testing it to (a) see if it gets an html page and (b) see if the page lasts beyond the term of the Classified. I might check that myself.

Yes - it doesn't cost any extra to have a group show in search, so the 100L is a one-off payment.

The next All seach index update will be about 2 hours from now (just after noon SLT). If the page was created immediately, it may still have missed the crawl for the update, in which case you'll have to wait for tomorrow's update at the same time, before seeing it appear in the results.

First, the html pages have to be created (also true for existing ones - recreated to include any changes).

Then the system has to crawl and index them.

Then the index is updated - once every day, soon after noon SLT).

I'd be in for a picks swap too. I have a couple of alts with html pages that have a few spaces. I should be able to do at least 4 or 5.

I'm not in the inworld group, so if you end up arranging this there, can someone drop me a notecard to let me know who to add?

Prawny, Blot, Nimue I have added all of you tomy picks :)

3 Im not sure where your store is but if you leave me a URL ill pop over and add you too.

I also spent today chattign with my friends and askign them toconsider adding my store. Worked pretty well, most hadnt thought to but like my store and were happy to :) So thats another 15 or soemthing picks.

I am also going to offer a random draw for anyone who has my store in their picks where they can pick out one free fat pack of their choice. Il do it on about a monthly basis ut the date and time will be random. Ill advertise it in my group and on notices to fashcon etc, hopefully this will help too.

Anyway the search didnt get in my updates from my alt yesterday, so Ill check to see how i do tomorrow.

I noted where I was on the following keywords :accessories and vintage

I figure between two key words i should get an accurate ide of how much the picks help

That's the reason why I've had the signs in my store since the GSA All search came out - "If you like this store, and would like to help others find it, please add it to your Picks. It helps with the new All search." (I should remove the word "new" now). It reminds people about their Picks. I would think that it doesn't cross the mind of most people who would Pick the place if it did cross their mind.
