From: JessicaNichol Kappler Part of me wants to log back into SL and continue the fun I was having prior to this week and the other part of me says, no go do something else and do it in the real world. Why should I subject myself to an unreliable system, or worse the potential harassment of some homophobic male who seems to think I would be interested in starting a RL relationship with him after 10 seconds of conversing on some virtual platform. You know, in RL I am not young and I am not old. In RL I am not fat and I am not ugly. But I am no where near as cute as my avatar. I tell this to the SL men I meet. Some of them are mature enough to understand what it means. Some aren't. If SL men want a RL relationship, get out there in the world and find it, because they are probably not going to find it here in SL. Pretty much exactly how I feel after this week, and this thread...

I like voice too, in first life. Using it in SL makes me feel like a telephone operator or Scotty in Star Trek.

From: JessicaNichol Kappler There is talk that voice is free right now, but the Lindens plan on charging all sim owners who will in turn charge their land owners/renters. Then of course all the business owners will pass this added expense on to the residents of SL. Just to correct this - some private island owners are now paying tier of $195/month instead of the normal fee of $295/month, because they bought their islands before the prices were increased. These are the only people who will be asked to pay for voice, they will be asked to accept the price increase and pay $295/month from then on. If you are on the mainland there is no price increase and if you or your landlord is already paying $295/month for the sim there will also be no increase. From: someone Finally, should I mention how all female avatars in SL are all of a sudden a target for harassment? They must be hidding something right? I read in the official SL guide that 18% of the female avatars are indeed male and a similar number of male avatars are female. Bear in mind that counting _avatars_ is a bit awkward, because many of those avatars might be alts, or no longer log in, or log in for short time periods. If you instead look at the number of _hours_ online for male and female avatars, as compared to the similar numbers of RL male and female account holders, the discrepancy is much larger.

Well I'm enjoying voice best now when I have a one on one im. I still think hearing lots of voices will start to get annoying in the open environment.
Voice is working fine for me though, I haven't had any technical issues with it.

Voice is working fine for me though, I haven't had any technical issues with it. Me neither. Compared to the several viewer crashes I get every day, I only remember the voice feature crashing on me a total of 2 times in the past 6-7 weeks. Perhaps Brenda felt like making a slightly sweeping statement Kris

@JessicaNichol Well said! I agree with everything you said. From: JessicaNichol Kappler Finally, should I mention how all female avatars in SL are all of a sudden a target for harassment?
Yes they are, and as soon as you bring up this topic, many (men) laugh about it. They just don`t understand what kind of emotional trouble that v**** crap causes for us. Basically you got two choices being a RL female: Voice and get harassed ("sexy voice! want phone sex?" or not voice and get harassed ("bet you are a guy" . From: someone You know, in RL I am not young and I am not old. Being a FURRY somehow makes this problem a lot less prevalent. I just refuse to present myself as the perfect dream woman 6 ft shiny tanned blonde with huge tits. (Well many find my av especially attractive, but this is harmless RP and I enjoy it.) Being a furry you are subject to harassment ANYWAY (entire sims are being bombed on a regular basis) so being a non-voicer will just add a bit. I don't give a damn anymore. My real friends stayed with me when I became furry, and they stayed when i refused to voice, that's what matters to me!
