Hi everyone. I had a good time in L.A. yesterday and spent today lazing around the house.

Saturday's stage at le Tour de France was 194.5km or 121miles. It included two category 4 climbs but most of the sprinters managed to get to the last kilometer with the rest of the peloton and have a very exciting finish with Spaniard Oscar Freire of team Rabobank crossing the line first with a time of 4h16'08".

Today, Stage 15 was 183km or 114 miles. The cyclists rode through rain and sun, heat and cold, over three climbe, a cat.3 and cat.1 preceded by one that was beyond category. It was drama and excitement all the way and one of the favorites had to drop out after breaking a collar bone in a bad crash.
An early breakaway was able to stay away to the end and the course broke apart first the peleton and eventually the chase group of Tour contenders. Australian Simon Gerrans of team Credit Agricole, won a three man sprint at the finish line with a time of 4h50min 44sec.

Luxembourger Frank Schleck of team CSC took theYellow Jersey as the new leader of the overall tour.

My 8,000 BTU window unit died yesterday and I had to replace it quick and cheap with a 5,000. What a difference.:( Barely cools off the living room, the other one did the whole downstairs!

Central A/C is your Friend!! :)

BUT- it also spoils you. I REALLY hate leaving the house when its hot & humid.

I remember not visiting friends of mine just because they had NO A/C at all. Their houses/apartments were like ovens. Oddly enough, they enjoyed coming to my place ;)

Assuming you want to paste a slurl of where you are currently at: call up the map and click the 'Copy SLURL to clipboard' down in the bottom right, pull up the chat/im window and paste it there using the windows paste shortcut keys (ctrl-v).
If you want to do this for somewhere that you are not, but you have an LM, pull up the LM in the map and then proceed as above.

ETA: You can even do this with places you find in search that you don't have a LM for. Just click on the event/place you want the slurl for, click show on map and copy paste as above.
Very handy.

Hey Amara, I was about to rescue us... had to catch up on my reading though..

Hello Threadies,

I've been neglecting you shamefully while my visitor is in town, but we're having a good time. We saw Mama Mia today, was really a fun movie.

Went to Cx's pool party, was a very nice time there.

Trout, for your present location...on map there is a button to copy Slurl to clipboard.

kaimi, I watched some of the Tour yesterday..you may convert us all. But the next legs are televised at 3:30 am... :-(

:)

Thanks Allie,

Thanks again to everyone that came to the party. We had an awesome time, Syn was at her all time best. She played some John Mayall for us (I never heard of him) and her usual awesome music selections.

Story of the day:

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University .

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully.
He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.
Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.
Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peters legs and slammed his stupid ass against the railing, killing him instantly.

Probably wasn't the same elephant.

OK- here is a weird thing.... I just put u a store on Terminus right... so I had had no probs- but since today early - every time I TP over there- I crash the connection to the internet. SL doesnt crash- and the router says lappy and pc still tlaking to each other- but - the internet just poofs... weirder still I am watching the Langoliers... could they be eating my internets?

Langoliers.... WIERD movie.

i dunno if you have this TP issue resolved, but if you can't resolve it prior to a sim restart, i suggest TPing to a nearby sim, then flying in to where you need to be. sux, you are right. i hope it's just you, and not everyone. that would eat into your potential sales! :(

OMG! a broken collar bone? and worse, out of the race? :( i feel bad for his spirit. he must be heartbroken to not at least be able to finish.

but the 3-man sprint at the end sounds VERY exciting! :D

Luxembourger Frank Schleck of team CSC took theYellow Jersey as the new leader of the overall tour.

i don't recall that name from prior reports, so i'm guessing it's the first time he is wearing the yellow jersey. COOL!

sounds like my busy weekend kept me from seeing the most action packed legs of the racing so far.

15 yrs ago, swamp coolers were what most houses here had. Then we started getting a large influx of people from other states and now A/C seems to be the norm and people look at you strange if you don't have it.

We have a swamp cooler and a window A/C unit for the family room. We run those during the day and then open up and put fans in the window at night and that works very well at keeping the house comfortable.
