From: Brenda Connolly OK, Boomer needs to get a job. I just came back from the Vet for his 10,000 mile check up. Between the shots, the exam, the blood work and stuff along with a supply of frontline and Heartguard...$500. Plus the scene of me chasing him around the yard this morning obtaining the required "samples". "samples" ohhh no. That is almost worse then forking out all of that dough.. It is hard to believe Boomer has 10,000 miles on him already. Be gentle to the poor pooch as I know you are. I am sure your vet loves you, not many people take very good of their pets. Getting their shots and check-ups. I would imagine in this poor economy many people are skipping that. Some are even having to give their pets up. What a sad thing to have to do.

If you ever need a break from "real news", one of my all time favourite websites is the LiveJournal "ohnotheydidnt" community. It's grown so huge over the years and it is a bit of a pop culture, celebrity gossip blog. Completely juvenile, non-cerebral and the best part are the comments which are politically incorrect, ridiculous, scathing and usually hilarious. My dad's cousin spent over $2000 on their dog getting a heart bypass. Another friend of mine has a great dane thats deaf. BIG beautiful dog!! Friendly as hell. Deaf as a rock. Its kinda funny when it & his Rottweiler are fighting like kids over the same chew toy. The Rotty barks at it, the Dane doesnt even notice. We kept telling the Rotty to "Shut up, dumbass!! She cant hear you!!!" Didja know Great Danes have BIG slobbery tongues?? Its like being smeared with a chunk of liver. BLAH!! Its really hard to work on their computer when you have a 100+ Lb dog nudging you for attention. Darn things weigh more than I do

I once had a cat who got bit by a dog,and she had a punctured lung. They wanted $3,000 dollars for the operation. I was 19 and in school at the time,so lucky if I had $30 bucks, never mind $3,000. I had to put her to sleep. They should have some sort of affordable health insurance for animals.

From: Rioko Bamaisin There is? Google Pet insurance. I know we had Pet Plan for the cats and it's save us loads. And I think Pet Plan is in the US too. Costed us less than £10 a month, and it saved George's life when he got hit by a car. I think we only had to pay about £30.

I stopped watchign the TV news regularly after I got so shocked by a story I ended up crying my eyes out. Now I just read the paper/check online every few days and wait for you guys to tell me when big or silly things happen

Do all vets take insurance plans? And I assume the plans pay for routine visits and vaccinations as well? I found Pet plan for the US and the yearly quote is pretty cheap. Though the deductible is kind of high and if I am reading it right,it says deductible per incident. So does that mean for every vet visit, I'll have to pay that,or just emergency services?

From: Marianne McCann It's an inherent difference in the way of looking at the world. Seeing it as a "place" versus a "thing." It's a place where you can do things.

I'm not sure about for regular visits, I think it depends on which plan you get. Probably best asking them, I can't remember. I know we had to pay the excess for every emergency. With three cats you could probably imagine the nuber of scrapes they got themselves into. I'm pretty sure all vets take them too.

If he weren't already married....... . He owns Black Labs himself, they are both very old, so the day I walked in with 8 week old Boomer it was love at first sight. He such a sweet and gentle man, the town he has his office in adores him. Just mentioning his name causes anyone you meet who owns a pet to gush. I wish I could find a doctor like that.

From: Brenda Connolly It's a place where you can do things. Compare and contrast what you just said with "it's a program (or a game) where you can do things." I am beginning to think it's a subtle but important difference. Hmm. More writing.

From: Seven Okelli My mother has the news on ALL DAY LONG. I used to read the news online, but now that I'm informed whether I want to be or not, I quit that. Oh, and here is my moving shot: Just packed up all my stuff from Watchman. Brenda's helicopter is in the background. And btw, that dress has some SERIOUS breast shading. I'm not that big. Glad the packing went smoothly. I remember the night you and I went to Watchman and Gabriele showed us around...and you moved there soon after.

Oh, and the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit was AMAZING. Each warrior looks different...since the artisans used different molds to give each warrior his own look. Some had long, narrow faces, others more round; some had a more wiry physique, others a bit more stout...differences in hair styles, eyes, facial expressions. And that's all apart from the differences based on if the warrior was an archer, an officer, an infantryman. Such detailing. Just remarkable.

/me is eating pistachio ice cream and a banana muffin, listening to the huge screaming argument going on in the kitchen, and the party noises coming from upstairs. Yey.
That exhibit looks cool Maureen!
