I just got back from seeing my aunt. After I got over the amount she's aged since I last saw her, I could see she looked pretty good.

She was wearing a cap because the chemo knocked all her hair off, but she's very positive and has lots of energy. She has this small, cat-like face. (It's hard to explain what I mean, but I do mean that in a good way. I don't know anyone to compare her to.) She's so nice and so good.

All of that was a HUGE relief. I had thought that someone in stage 4 was terminal, but she sure doesn't look that way. I never had a chance to ask her prognosis. We were alone for a few moments and talked quickly about a few things I didn't dare ask in front of others, but then just as I was about to ask the rest, everyone else came back.

My cousin, who is just funny and crazy, has a couple of kids and two dogs and a really nice husband. The dogs for some reason wanted my attention - one was a beagle/pug mix, and the other was like a golden lab. When I left, I was covered in dog hair.

We all sat around talking about what everyone's up to, comparing family stories, and such, and the time really flew.

So it was a great visit. I'm SO glad I went. I was pretty sad this morning about my aunt, but now I feel so much better.

/hugs you again.

I'm so glad you were able to go and spend time with your aunt. I'm betting your visit made her day, and you got to have some fun catching up with your cousins. :)

i think it's safe to blame the pose ball being pushed back a little too far for this one, although i do completely agree with you about the av meshes. but we won't expand upon that because i don't want to set you off on a rant and ruin your day. :)

I was going to go out for the game, but this is too important. At home, I will be in comfortable surroundings, with like minded people. In a bar, there will undoubtedly be hostiles about, both as Colts fans and disgruntled Giants fans. If the game goes bad, I could turn bitchy very quickly. At home at least I can just storm up to bed to cry and allow the party to continue.

The last time the Jets were in a Super Bowl, was a year before I was born. In my lifetime they have been to the AFC Championship game twice, in 1999 and 1983 I think. There is a lot riding on this one for Wearers of the Green.
Then you deserve to have the Jets go all the way.

edited to fix spelling.

The second time the Redskins were in the Super Bowl (1983), I was living in San Diego. I didn't have a car, so I rented one, drove to Pasadena, and bought a ticket outside the Rose Bowl for LESS than the face value of the ticket!!! (There were no West Coast teams in the game; Washington was playing the Miami Dolphins.)

AND the ticket was on the 40 yard line!!

Oh, boy...that was a great phone call back home to my dad. :p

I'm a genius, though not a modest one, and my favorite shows are House and CSI (the original). Pretty much anymore, I can't take too many of the reality shows. I still sometimes watch So You Think You Can Dance, but that is about it.
hmmm. I did well on the Mensa entrance exam a long time ago and "House" and original "CSI" are two of my favorite shows. I don't have much patience for fictional or reality characters being stupid...

I <3 Jon Stewart

I do too, but that example of O'Reilly vs Stewart illustrates the problem with American politics. The polarization. They are both on the far side of their perspective idealogies. Stewart is not neccesarily any more right than O'Reilly, he just does it with a better sense of humor. What we need is a modern day Mark Twain or Will Rogers, who sees it from the middle and realizes they are are crooks.

i think, in general, it's a lot easier to be negative than positive. therefore, it's much easier to attract like minded negative people. less work with a faster payback (emotionally) for them.

sad, isn't it.
Yup, apparently it's easier to frighten and anger people than to encourage and inspire. And easier to influence scared and angry people to ignore facts and logic.

YET - those who are bold enough to encourage and inspire and offer hope of a positive change are the ones we celebrate and honor, and sometimes even name holidays after. MLK Jr immediately comes to mind.

seems someone wanting to make a difference would model themselves after those who have been successful before them. i mean, who uses the OK City bomber as a role model? well, some do, and that's scary. so, i guess consider the source of the leader - and the followers. no wonder their labels are so defining.

True, but it is just that. History. Are we responsible for the sins of our forebearers?
No, but there is a long history of people who look like Northern Europeans using their physical appearance to justify terrible maltreatment of other-looking people.

I think it's a good thing if those of us who have that Northern European look, now try to be understanding of people who's family histories include plenty of examples of situations that give them good cause to be suspicious of us.

That being said my advice to individuals of any appearance is to assume and demand that you will be judged by what you yourself do and say today. And judge others by the same standards.

The more I hear about your family, Seven, the more I love them all. I'm glad you had this good visit and will remember you all in my prayers.

problem is, you can't demand judgment, nor respect. worse, some people are so shallow and closed minded, it won't matter how fabulous you are, they will only see the negative stereotype that they have already categorized you as. that's what prejudice is. and does.

Well sometimes it works to ignore that and make it personal.

"I'm sorry, I don't understand exactly in what way you are finding my job performance inferior to that of [insert name of favored person of different gender or ethnicity without acknowledging that could have anything to do with it]."

I've had quite a bit of success with this in the past with sexist bosses who eventually had to admit that my work was good enough for the raise or whatever or admit that I was being denied because of their unfounded prejudice against women in general.

Of course usually it didn't cause any big change in anyone but I felt true to myself.
