Me too. :o

It's funny, but even though everyone in my family has a near-supergenius IQ, all of us love reality TV. We're brilliant, but we have crap taste. :p

me 3. reality tv plays right in to most stereotypes (accidentally) and so it's really fun to sit back and say to myself "oh, that's why they say that about ___________". pure comedy gold. i love it! :D

Stupid stupid SL av meshes!

i think it's safe to blame the pose ball being pushed back a little too far for this one, although i do completely agree with you about the av meshes. but we won't expand upon that because i don't want to set you off on a rant and ruin your day. :)

The greater the mind, the more need there is for simple

regardless of intellect - seriously. nothing beats a spell of non-thinking after a stressful day.

having said that, some of those shows are even too tawdry and simple for even me. go figure. :p

I might actually get interested if I could come to YOUR party. Just saying.

I was going to go out for the game, but this is too important. At home, I will be in comfortable surroundings, with like minded people. In a bar, there will undoubtedly be hostiles about, both as Colts fans and disgruntled Giants fans. If the game goes bad, I could turn bitchy very quickly. At home at least I can just storm up to bed to cry and allow the party to continue.

The last time the Jets were in a Super Bowl, was a year before I was born. In my lifetime they have been to the AFC Championship game twice, in 1999 and 1983 I think. There is a lot riding on this one for Wearers of the Green.

Quick question for any of the local real estate tycoons.

I'm more just curious than anything else but here is the question.

If you owned 1/4 of a sim and it was nice property, waterfront, ocean access, etc., and set up rental plots, would earning enough to cover your tier be a reasonable expectation?

The greater the mind, the more need there is for simple pleasures.

So if you are all genuises and like reality TV, and I despise reality TV that means I'm.......
I'm a genius, though not a modest one, and my favorite shows are House and CSI (the original). Pretty much anymore, I can't take too many of the reality shows. I still sometimes watch So You Think You Can Dance, but that is about it.

Maybe . . . maybe not.

The British National Party (BNP) is active in SL, has a group, and (at least last time I checked) a headquarters in world. It is an offshoot of the old fascist National Front: until last year, when the courts ruled it discriminatory, membership was restricted to Caucasians. They propose the repatriation of all non Caucasians from Britain. LL is, at some level, aware of their existence, because they keep getting ARed for the overtly racist signs that they put up.

I'm afraid that I don't have a problem with a company -- LL, or whomever -- showing some ethical backbone. Would you critique an investment company that offered only "ethical" investments? Would you, before the end of Apartheid, have done business with a company that did business with South Africa? I make these kinds of decisions every day: I don't buy from companies that employ third-world sweatshops, or that don't engage in fair trade practices. And I do, in what ways I can, register my protest against those who do. That's all I am doing here.

It's easy to forget that Second Life is not a democracy: it's a privately-owned fiefdom. I am anticensorship, for the greatest part, but "free speech" is only half of the equation: you also need responsive mechanisms for governance that counterbalance the lunatic fringe, the unethical, the racist, and so forth that "free speech" allows voice to. We don't have those in SL: we have a sort of benevolent dictatorship that allows anyone to say pretty much whatever they want so long as the corporation doesn't find it offensive, without providing the democratic tools to respond.

If SL were an actual democratic state, I would trust that the mechanisms of democracy would keep the ethical ship on an even keel. Instead, we have a private corporation -- no different in that respect from Dow Chemical itself -- which makes top-down decisions about what IT views as ethically permissible. Given that I don't have a "vote" here to record my opposition, I take the same approach to LL that I take to any otherwise unresponsive corporation: I protest.

(Sorry, I hope that doesn't sound grumpy. I don't want it to sound grumpy. . . .)
I'm on your side Scylla.
But might accepting money from villains be less undesirable than giving it to them? If I have it right, in this case they paid LL for private space to do some design work - not to spread unethical propaganda...
Not sure why I'm trying to split hairs here.
I'm not saying they shouldn't accept responsibility for their crimes or that we should stop pointing that out every chance we get. Just wondering how to judge LL role I guess.

It should be possible in theory, Tex.

The way I figure it, if you charged $2L per prim per week (a very typical rate), and had a 25% vacancy factor, you could cover tier and then some.

This makes one very important assumption: You rent out ALL your prims. No community areas, no prefabs. Well, OK, you could maybe use 10% (375 prims) for very basic infrastructure, and keep another 10% in reserve. This is very different from a place like Lebettu or Masocado, where the themed build uses up perhaps half the prims of the parcel.

On the negative side, your per-prim costs are higher than someone who has a half sim or a full sim, because of the way you get a price break in tier as your holdings increase. So a larger landowner could undercut you.

Also on the negative side, vacancies seem to be running higher than that 25% number I mentioned. Not everywhere, but in many places.

I watch Cops, Steven Segal:Lawman, Cake Boss and Pawn Stars, so maybe there is hope for me. I also watch Man vs Food, I guess that's a reality show.

I have a bit of a peeve on "Discriminatory" groups. Obviously thing like the KKK and such as the one Scylla mentioned obviously are of no good, but what about Freedom of Association? Groups of all sorts of Ethnic makeup are formed for the betterment and protection of their people. They operate legally, and do not otherwise act negatively toward outsiders. They are called Cultural Associations, Defense leagues, all sorts of tings. They are usually applauded and encouraged. But when the makeup of that group happens to be White, regardless of what the group does with itself, it is held up as racist, discriminatory, and exclusionary. This a generalization of course, but there is a double standard.
It's just that there is such a long and awful history...

Thanks Lindal!

I had assumed that the breakdown and possible pitfalls would be something similar to what you described. I've been thinking that owning a 1/4 sim (or more) and setting up a nice themed neighborhood would be a lot of fun. However, not as much fun if it didn't at least come close to paying it's own tier.

The counterbalance to lunatic fringe free speech is free speech from sensible people.

Speech that is slanderous or harmful (incitement to violence) are things the government should deal with.

Crackpot speech? Most of the counterbalance there is that people will look at the guy shouting "I AM A MORON" from the mountaintop and saying "That guy really is a moron.".

Linden Lab shouldn't be endorsing it, but I'm not sure I want them determining who is a crackpot and muzzling them, either.
Same here, Milla. I just wish more of the people who seem to be able to influence the morons would start doing it for the side of light.

i think, in general, it's a lot easier to be negative than positive. therefore, it's much easier to attract like minded negative people. less work with a faster payback (emotionally) for them.

sad, isn't it.

Mentioning my Danish friend made me crave aebleskiver.

From: 3Ring Binder
recipe please :D
My sis says the recipe is basically pancake mix, although I think there are slight differences that give them a lighter texture. Google will help you find some recipes:

http://www.google.com/search?q=aebleskiver

The main thing, though, is the pan. You need a special pan to make them.

As I said to Mo in another thread, when she made the same observation, I do my best work under pressure. We are in The End Days here so I have to get it all in for posteriority.
Lol. Carry on.

I just got back from seeing my aunt. After I got over the amount she's aged since I last saw her, I could see she looked pretty good.

She was wearing a cap because the chemo knocked all her hair off, but she's very positive and has lots of energy. She has this small, cat-like face. (It's hard to explain what I mean, but I do mean that in a good way. I don't know anyone to compare her to.) She's so nice and so good.

All of that was a HUGE relief. I had thought that someone in stage 4 was terminal, but she sure doesn't look that way. I never had a chance to ask her prognosis. We were alone for a few moments and talked quickly about a few things I didn't dare ask in front of others, but then just as I was about to ask the rest, everyone else came back.

My cousin, who is just funny and crazy, has a couple of kids and two dogs and a really nice husband. The dogs for some reason wanted my attention - one was a beagle/pug mix, and the other was like a golden lab. When I left, I was covered in dog hair.

We all sat around talking about what everyone's up to, comparing family stories, and such, and the time really flew.

So it was a great visit. I'm SO glad I went. I was pretty sad this morning about my aunt, but now I feel so much better.
