Watchman's closing? Oh, dear! That's sad news. Anyone who's having to move is welcome to get in touch with me and visit Masocado. What we have there now might not suit you...but if there are enough refugees with common needs and ideas, well, maybe things could be rearranged.

I know, that makes me sound like an ambulance chaser. But I really LOVE having my friends as tenants, so I'm quite seriously open to some group discussions.

I might drop in on you at some point. I'm going to go back to being a Tourist, and just go around and maybe rent places for short periods. Maybe I can do a Michael Palen.

Thanks Tex, Mo, and Brenda. As for Josh, it was he who drew my attention to both the blog article and the Kronbelt sim, so I owe him for that. Unless I do get permabanned, of course, in which case he'll be hearing from my lawyers . . . :D

Oh Scylla .. but the KKK?! Yes you stated it to be a hypothetical extreme but to imply that LL should be the arbiter of all that is ethical is treading on dangerous territory imho. I have come across quite a few instances where griefers have run around spewing racist and anti-Semitic garbage but ARs took care of it within minutes. Granted I don't know much about this BNP group you referenced, so I'm unclear on what LL's stance has been, but my experience has been LL acts very quickly in such matters.

A man should not have camel toe (that's the expression, yes? camel toe?).

Well, I finally made a visit to both Watchman and Masocado. Both are awesome places.

I'm sad to hear that Watchman is closing, especially now that I've learned that Brenda's bedroom window doesn't have any curtains. :D

For those of you who like shooting, you should visit the target range before it shuts down. It reall is fun, and easy to use. Weapons are provided. There is a LM giver right outside my cottage.

I wish I had a pic of the day you were my co-pilot. Unfortunately, the flight didn't last long enough to take one. :p

Somehow I can't visualize our beloved pics being welcomed or 'enjoyed by all' on the blogrum. I'll miss the pics as much as the conversation.

ETA: And, every day, no brekkie. :(

Never mind that, I wouldn't lower myself to post on it. Once this place closes, secondlife.com is dead to me.

Tomorrow night, I'm going to hear a band called, lol, "Deaf Dog and the Indictments." Its members, for the most part, are judges. :p

Deaf judges? :p We have a blind judge at the court I work at. He's cool and has a great guide dog.

Why not? It seems at times the entire Supreme Court is deaf, as well as blind.

Hello threadkins
big stretch, long yawn
Being sick is no fun but spending days in a bathrobe has its appeal.
Hope to be able to stomach a highly anticipated Chicago deep dish tonight but it still might have to wait another day.
Brenda. Just curious if you will be watching THE game Sunday? I was going to put a Colts logo in my avatar pic but I’m extremely superstitious about those things and seeing they have done just fine without that bit of assistance I will focus my mojo elsewhere. Like wearing favorite blue sweats, sitting on the right side of the couch …… consistency is key.

OBTW ...... todays my 3rd Rez day :)

I'll be watching it, (over the top of my laptop, while I dragon-shop in SL). Should be a pretty good time to shop, lots of folks will be off watching the game. The cool part is, for me, now that the Chargers are out of the running, I can relax, I actually like both teams and won't have a problem, no matter who wins. :) That's a nice feeling!

Colts fans are pretty excited about playing the Jets with the “real” team. I will give the Jets their due. They are a good team. It all boils down to if Manning shows up to play. If he’s off, the whole team suffers. We have had our defense manage to carry us through when Manning was playing badly. But against the Jets? idk

Will I be watching the game? Of course. I have already invited friends and have my menu planned....Hot Dogs, Chicken Wings, Chili, REAL popcorn. I've got the 46" sony all cleaned up an ready to go, and have my Jets flag flying outside the house.

Maybe . . . maybe not.

The British National Party (BNP) is active in SL, has a group, and (at least last time I checked) a headquarters in world. It is an offshoot of the old fascist National Front: until last year, when the courts ruled it discriminatory, membership was restricted to Caucasians. They propose the repatriation of all non Caucasians from Britain. LL is, at some level, aware of their existence, because they keep getting ARed for the overtly racist signs that they put up.

I'm afraid that I don't have a problem with a company -- LL, or whomever -- showing some ethical backbone. Would you critique an investment company that offered only "ethical" investments? Would you, before the end of Apartheid, have done business with a company that did business with South Africa? I make these kinds of decisions every day: I don't buy from companies that employ third-world sweatshops, or that don't engage in fair trade practices. And I do, in what ways I can, register my protest against those who do. That's all I am doing here.

It's easy to forget that Second Life is not a democracy: it's a privately-owned fiefdom. I am anticensorship, for the greatest part, but "free speech" is only half of the equation: you also need responsive mechanisms for governance that counterbalance the lunatic fringe, the unethical, the racist, and so forth that "free speech" allows voice to. We don't have those in SL: we have a sort of benevolent dictatorship that allows anyone to say pretty much whatever they want so long as the corporation doesn't find it offensive, without providing the democratic tools to respond.

If SL were an actual democratic state, I would trust that the mechanisms of democracy would keep the ethical ship on an even keel. Instead, we have a private corporation -- no different in that respect from Dow Chemical itself -- which makes top-down decisions about what IT views as ethically permissible. Given that I don't have a "vote" here to record my opposition, I take the same approach to LL that I take to any otherwise unresponsive corporation: I protest.

(Sorry, I hope that doesn't sound grumpy. I don't want it to sound grumpy. . . .)
