Hey, has anyone else been getting old IMs?

The first one I got was from my alt, from a month ago. Then I got one or two from other people, but the messages were obviously old (and I remembered receiving them before).

Yep I'm getting all sorts of weird, out of context, ancient IMs. I've heard many others are experiencing this as well. Oh and I just noticed this status report about it: http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2009/12/09/post832/

I got one from Ghosty. I had sent one to him November 8th and never heard back from him. That is until December 8th. I thought it odd that he would finally get around to replying, since I know it wasn't a case of him being away and then coming back and resuming SL. I responded to his response and went on my way.

Then I got some IM's from Mistress that really confused me. Stuff like "sorry I missed you", and "don't spend all your lindens while drugged". Neither made sense, since I was in world, and not drugged. And Mistress was not (in world, I assume not drugged). I also replied to these IM's.

Well, I learned these were old IM's. From both Ghosty and Mistress. I asked Ghosty when he had sent the IM I had replied to, and he noted it had been sent a long time ago. (on a side note, this also explains to me the wording Ghosty used in group chat two nights ago about missing art)

It's still coming down like crazy here in Lowell. I guess we are going to get 8 inches here and more up north.

SL can make them 'feel' normal. People with Asperger's Syndrome are often extremely talented, often in one area, almost like a savant. (music, math, forms of art, which could include types of SL building, scripting) On my sim, we have a big gallery where we exhibit disabled artist's work. The people on the autism spectrum probably have more 'show time' than anyone else, they are talented and prolific. They can concentrate on their project in ways we can't, we just don't have that kind of focus, we are more easily distracted, etc. They can be overstimulated though, and with their exhibits, are often content to remain in the background and not interact with people coming to view the art.

Sure, and sometimes they are not. Like me. The extremely talented part. Course I'm probably on the extreme end while still being on that spectrum (other extreme is rocking in corner in own world unable to even attempt being normal in something like SL). The part of the spectrum where I sometimes simply can't understand what anyone is saying, even though I can hear the words (and sometimes I'm focused on the outside world and I can't hear the words because of hearing issues; it gets confusing). Most of the time not there though (have that issue, though I can create vivid worlds in my mind and content myself in them). That is where I am coming from when I say that I just never figured out how "SL can let them be 'normal'", as I still have no real clue how to interact properly.

That is one reason (the "content to remain in the background and not interact with people", though, for why I've only been in one (or is it two?) art exhibitions.

I went to one of the islands for autism. Just to look around. I was quite uncomfortable. The people there were using voice, as they had some writing problems (which is understandable; I think it was just one with the writing problems, and the others were going along to include them, again, understandable), but I have problems with voice. Not always, but I certainly did then. I have no idea why I'm mentioning any of this here. heh. Makes me quite uncomfortable.

(((hugz you tight))) We shouldn't have to talk about anything in this thread that makes us uncomfortable as this is our feel good thread. And of course you are right, there's no 'one mold fits all', I was generalizing, based only on my own experience, with interaction with people with autism/asperger's. Your mileage can (and probably will!) vary.

I'm glad you did, because I've always been puzzled by you. I instinctively expected you to be like me. Socially, I mean. You're so active. You explore. You do a lot and make things. I associate all that with being extroverted and outgoing. This confused me.

So, I'm sorry it makes you uncomfortable, but thanks for saying it.

Yay all ordered! Estimated delivery date is Dec 31st though I've been telling people this is going to be like getting virtual cataract surgery and I'll finally be able to see properly with all the technocolour goodness SL has to offer with less lag and Josh constantly walking into walls as I often do now. I only wish the elves would hurry up and make my new computer faster!

Good morning/afternoon/evening all. I'm off to the airport. Only a couple of inches of snow here, but hubby says there is lots at home and temps are -10F with windchill at -34 -- yuck, yuck, yuck.

It'll be worth the wait Last night I was flipping through the Windlight presets watching how it changed the water reflections. Even on the old clunky monitor the results were massively improved. You have to see the larger size to see how glassy the water is but believe me you are going to be thrilled.

i'm not bitter.

i think you should just have the pilot fly right on past all this frozen tundra out west and drop you off in Hawaii or something.

I'll need some cheese to go with my WHINE, because I'm jealous. I have a good external monitor already but my integrated laptop graphics didn't even allow me to enable basic shaders so Windlight was out of the question or even simple things like glow. I'm excited about being able to try doing some machinima, taking better pics and being able to actual compete in sailing races.

One other interesting thing I noticed when I ordered was I got dinged with this new environmental levy to pay for the recycling of electronic waste. It was only 15 bucks but it's to cover the cost of the mounds of e-waste we generate that has lots of toxic crap like lead, cadmium and mercury. I saw a doc on this not that long ago and it was quite horrific seeing how a lot of this gets sent to third world countries to get recycled. I only wish they would just factor this into the cost and not surprise me with another fee at checkout.
